Dallas Trinity FC announces new partnership, international friendly match during State Fair of Texas

A different kind of football is happening at the Cotton Bowl during the 2025 State Fair of Texas. Dallas Trinity FC, Dallas' first professional women's soccer team, will host an international friendly match at the Cotton Bowl on Oct. 18, the team announced on Tuesday. Full details of the match, including the team's opponent, will be revealed at a later date. "We're excited to partner with the State Fair of Texas to bring international soccer to the Cotton Bowl," said Trip Neil, founder and chief operating officer of Dallas Trinity FC. Dallas Trinity FC is one of eight teams in the newly created USL Super League, the league announced last spring. The Cotton Bowl is Dallas Trinity FC's home field. "At the heart of the State Fair of Texas's mission is bringing people from all walks of life together through quality entertainment, creating a sense of community," said Karissa Condoianis, SVP of PR of the State Fair of Texas. "Our partnership with Dallas Trinity FC brings an exciting new element to the Fair experience, offering guests the chance to witness world-class soccer in an iconic venue." The tradition of college football games at the fair will also continue in 2025. The week prior to Dallas Trinity FC's match, the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners will face off in the Red River Showdown at the Cotton Bowl. On Sept. 27, during the fair's opening weekend, the Prairie View A&M Panthers will face the Grambling State Tigers.

Where does OU-Texas rank among best rivalries in the SEC?

Where does OU-Texas rank among best rivalries in the SEC? The SEC is home to some of the best rivalries in college football. The Red River Showdown, the Iron Bowl, the Egg Bowl, the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, and the Battle of the Boot between LSU and Arkansas. Rivalry weekends take the sport to a different level. So which rivalries are the best in the SEC? Blake Toppemeyer of USA TODAY Sports ranked the top 10 rivalries in the conference, and OU-Texas came in at No. 2 on the list. When the SEC added Oklahoma and Texas, the conference didn't just gain two iconic brands, it acquired one of college football's best rivalries. Most games are better when played on college campuses, but this one at the Cotton Bowl during the State Fair of Texas stands as an exception to that rule. - Toppemeyer, USA TODAY Sports OU-Texas is a one-of-a-kind rivalry game. The 50-50 split, the State Fair of Texas, and the 120 games in its history make it one of the more storied rivalries in the sport. While the Iron Bowl may have taken the top spot on Toppemeyer's list and is a fantastic rivalry game in its own right, it's been played 31 fewer times, and there was a 41-year gap in the game. Auburn's struggled to have a foothold on the game over the last decade and half. The Tigers have only won four times since 2008. Though Oklahoma holds the edge since 2008, Texas has won the Red River Showdown seven times, making it a much closer rivalry game. The SEC is just familiarizing itself with OU-Texas. Year one of the game as members of the SEC was not a good representation of the back-and-forth nature of the Red River Showdown. This year, the Sooners hope to even the score with the Longhorns under Brent Venables. Texas bill would prevent State Fair of Texas from prohibiting firearms

The Brief Texas Senate bill 1065 aims to keep the State Fair of Texas from imposing a firearms ban. If passed, the bill would allow license-to-carry holders to bring firearms to the Fair and other places where a contractor leases government property. Last year, in response to the 2023 shooting, the Fair said nobody could bring a firearm, unless they were current or retired law enforcement members. DALLAS - State senators heard testimony on a bill that could ban events like the State Fair of Texas from prohibiting firearms. Texas Senate Bill 1065 aims to keep the State Fair of Texas from imposing a firearms ban. The bill went before the Senate Committee on State Affairs on Thursday morning. If passed, the bill would allow license-to-carry holders to bring firearms to the Fair and other places where a contractor leases government property. The State Fair leases Fair Park from the city of Dallas. The bill is in its early stages, but the debate has been ongoing. It was introduced by Republican Senator Bob Hall, who represents parts of North Texas outside of Dallas. What they're saying License to Carry instructor, Gary Zimmerman, believes the problem isn't just the right to carry at the State Fair, but rather the protection needed to get there. "The Texas State Fair is in a high crime rate area of Dallas and the problem isn't the State Fair, because there's 500-plus police officers there, it's getting to and from there," said Zimmerman. "Where are you going to put your gun? In the car. Where's the number one place where criminals obtain guns? It's from stealing them from cars, it's not from buying them, they steal them from cars." Executive Director of the Texas State Rifle Association, John Poole, did not approve of the State Fair changing its gun policy after a shooting in 2023. "The knee-jerk reaction by the State Fair was a policy change that not only banned all weapons, but it banned the very people that you want to carry a handgun," said Poole. The other side Opponents of the bill believe it would undermine the ability of the State Fair and other organizations leasing government property to keep events safe. Sarah West, a volunteer for Moms Demand Action, an organization fighting for more public safety measures that protect people from gun violence, said during Thursday's hearing that Senate Bill 1065 strips event organizers of the flexibility needed to make public events safe. "SB 1065 imposes a one-size-fits-all gun mandate on settings as varied as public streets, the Houston Zoo, and public universities. It strips event organizers of the flexibility they need to make site-specific safety decisions," said West. FOX 4 reached out to the State Fair of Texas for comment on SB 1065 and received the following reply: "Yes, the State Fair of Texas is aware of Senate Bill 1065. The State Fair takes no political position on gun rights issues and in fact, has long been, and continues to be, a strong supporter of the rights of responsible gun owning Texans. Our decision to change our policy regarding the admission of license-to-carry (LTC) holders with their handguns was in no way meant to be a political statement. It was merely an attempt to 1) make the Fair safer for everyone; 2) follow best practices of similar Texas events; and 3) eliminate confusion related to areas of the fairgrounds where firearms are prohibited by has been suggested that our new policy makes the State Fair a "gun free" zone and therefore less safe than before. We disagree with this suggestion. The State Fair has adopted a similar policy to that of most all similar events in Texas, such as athletic competitions, concerts, and other fairs and festivals throughout the state." Dig deeper In 2023, a shooting inside the food court on the fairgrounds injured three people. At the time, the Fair allowed attendees with valid handgun licenses to carry their weapon if it was concealed. The suspect did not have a gun license. Last year, in response to the 2023 shooting, the Fair said nobody could bring a firearm, unless they were current or retired law enforcement members. Last fall, the Texas Supreme Court denied Attorney General Ken Paxton's emergency filing which sought to overturn the State Fair's gun ban. What's next It's unclear if Senate Bill 1065 has the support needed to become law. The bill is left pending at this time, so no action has been taken. The Source Information in this article comes from a hearing of the Texas Senate State Affairs Committee, the State Fair of Texas and past FOX 4 coverage.

Trying the cotton candy bacon at RodeoHouston

I tried my (now sticky) hand at eating the new cotton candy bacon on a stick at the Houston Rodeo. Dig in: This delicacy is from Rousso's Fat Bacon, which earned them the rodeo's Gold Buckle Foodie Award for best new flavor in 2025. The dish made its debut and won Best Taste in the sweets category at the State Fair of Texas last year. My experience: From the first bite to the last, the treat provided a perfectly hyperbolic pairing of sweet and savory. Though a little too sweet-sounding for some of my family members who were with me that day — including two of three young niblings — I'd recommend everyone try it at least once. My 14-year-old niece, the only one to take the plunge with me, rated it 6 out of 10 and said it's "very sweet and salty at the same time, with a hint of tart. The sweetness adds a punch to the taste." How could you argue with that? The bottom line: At $16, you sure do get a honkin' piece of bacon. Just make sure to eat it before the cotton candy melts entirely. If you go: Rousso's Fat Bacon is located under the food vendor tents between the Astrodome and NRG Center. Beautiful weekend weather paves way for warm, dry week ahead in North Texas

Sunday morning started off chilly, with temperatures in the mid-50s. The coolness was a result of radiational cooling, where clear skies overnight allowed heat from the previous day to escape into the atmosphere. However, temperatures are expected to climb into the lower 80s this afternoon, making it a perfect final day to visit the State Fair of Texas. An easterly flow at the surface will shift to southerly winds on Monday, leading to increased moisture at the start of next week. This is due to a significant upper-level low pressure system moving into the central Plains within the next 24 hours. While this low pressure system is currently causing storm activity in New Mexico and the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles, it will track too far north to bring any precipitation to North Texas. As a result, the DFW metroplex will remain dry, continuing a 25-day streak without measurable rainfall since Sept. 25. A ridge of high pressure will dominate the region throughout the upcoming week, ensuring that the extended forecast remains dry and temperatures continue to rise.
