Hollyoaks confirms domestic abuse story with Ste and Lucas

Hollyoaks will highlight an under-recognised but common form of domestic abuse asLucas Hay (Oscar Curtis) will physically attack dad Ste (Kieron Richardson). Lucas, as viewers know, was diagnosed with a brain tumour, with recent scenes seeing him undergo life saving surgery, which entailed a series of complications. Ste was incredibly worried for son, who is brought out of his coma later this week and, despite the aforementioned complications, Lucas is set to make a full recovery. But the situation escalates soon afterwards, with Lucas holding resentment towards Ste for getting together with Rex Gallagher (Jonny Labey), who was largely to blame for Dillon Ray's (Nathaniel Dass) ordeal. Rex, as fans will recall, groomed Dillon into a trafficking operation and got him hooked on drugs. After finding out that Ste warned Dillon to keep away from him, Lucas will start to physically abuse his dad. Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) notices the bruises on Ste, who downplays the situation. Lucas is quick to apologise for his actions. More tense scenes are confirmed for next week. Lucas is thrilled when he arrives home to find Dillon, who is set to move in, waiting for him. Things are awkward at first but Dillon breaks the ice, asking Lucas if they can be boyfriends again. Subsequent scenes see Dillon apologise to Lucas for whatever transpired and he later confides in Ste about his addiction struggles. Ste offer him support, assuring Dillon that he can talk to him – not Lucas as he doesn't want him burdened him while he's recovering. Little do they know, however, that Lucas has overheard their conversation via the nearby baby monitor. The teen's anger boils over and thus he confronts both Ste and Dillon, accusing them of having an affair. Metro understands that this storyline will continue as Lucas takes his anger out on Ste behind closed doors. To ensure the storyline is accurate as possible, Hollyoaks is working with PEGS (Parental Education Growth Support), which offers help to parents being abused by their children, be it verbal, physical, emotional, financial, or other. According to a survey taken by the organisation, 25% of parents who are seeking advice are being physically abused by their children each month. More Trending Discussing the story, Kieron said: 'This storyline is one that as a parent is conflicting, as you would do anything for your kids. 'It flips the script on what many people assume abuse looks like and both Oscar and I are working hard to show what happens when the dynamic is reversed. 'We often think of parents disciplining children, but what happens when the dynamic is reversed? It's uncomfortable, it's emotional, and it's real. We've worked closely with experts to make sure this is portrayed truthfully, and I hope it encourages the kind of conversations that might help families going through similar situations feel seen and supported.' With new Stratford high school on horizon, PSB aims to shuffle who goes to 2 city schools

Zoning changes proposed for Charlottetown-area schools, as new Stratford high school means a shuffle 1 hour ago Duration 2:12 The Public Schools Branch is recommending changing where some students should go to school in the Charlottetown area. The move is in response to a new high school being built in Stratford. More than 600 students from the Stratford and Donagh areas will eventually go there, which means a chance to balance the number of students at other schools. CBC's Connor Lamont reports. P.E.I.'s Public Schools Branch is looking to make changes to where some students will go to high school in the Charlottetown area in the years ahead. The PSB recently released a report on rezoning students in the capital city in order to prepare for a new high school slated to open across the Hillsborough River in Stratford in just over two years. More than 600 students from the Stratford and Donagh areas will eventually go there, instead of the two high schools in Charlottetown attended by the current crop of pupils from east of the city. The schools branch said its proposed zoning changes are a chance to balance the number of students at Charlottetown Rural and Colonel Gray high schools. If the PSB board of trustees adopts the report's recommendations, the following changes would take effect in September 2027: All high school students in the Donagh and Stratford catchment areas would attend Stratford High School for grades 10-12. All students who attend Birchwood and Stonepark intermediate schools would attend Charlottetown Rural for grades 10-12. All students graduating from Queen Charlotte would attend Colonel Gray for grades 10-12. Students completing late French immersion at Birchwood, Queen Charlotte and Stonepark would attend grades 10-12 at the high school designated to their home address. The changes would mean between 600 and 700 students would attend each of the three high schools. Keeping the cohorts together The PSB said its goal is to keep students together as a group from the elementary level through to high school. Students who graduate from Stonepark Intermediate currently split off between the two Charlottetown high schools based on which feeder school they attended. "By rezoning the Birchwood Intermediate students to Charlottetown Rural and adding the students from Parkdale, Prince Street and St. Jean-Hillsborough, CRHS would gain 208 students to have a total of 689 while Colonel Gray would have 650," the Public Schools Branch report notes. "These numbers would allow space at both schools for the growing enrolments identified [in] their respective catchment areas." The zoning for Charlottetown's intermediate and elementary schools will be left as is for now. That's because the P.E.I. government recently approved the construction of a new junior high for Stratford that will eventually require rezoning for those grade levels. There's currently no timeline for when that new school will be built. 'Makes a lot of sense' Stratford Mayor Steve Ogden said the schools branch's proposed changes would benefit students and parents in the area. "It makes sense to have people as close as possible to their educational needs. It saves a lot of greenhouse gases, it'll be more convenient for parents," Ogden said. "It's just better overall for the town and for the students to be not spending as much time as part of the transportation process. I think it makes a lot of sense." The Public Schools Branch said it's conducting public consultations on the recommendations for both the Charlottetown schools, as well as on another recent report that proposed changes to the Three Oaks family of schools in the Summerside area. "We encourage all community members to share their perspectives so we can make the best decisions for our students' futures," Stephanie Arnold, chair of the PSB's board of trustees, said in an emailed statement. Here's why. 5 months ago Duration 2:07 As work on the new Stratford high school continues, the project manager says the cost has now risen an extra $11 million. CBC's Taylor O'Brien visited the construction site to find out what's been built and what still remains to be done. There will be a public information session on the Charlottetown recommendations Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Charlottetown Rural. The Summerside public consultation takes place at Three Oaks Senior High on Thursday, also at 7 p.m. The consultation period ends June 2, after which the school board trustees will have the final say on both reports.

Hollyoaks reveals reason why Lucas collapsed as diagnosis is issued

Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Tuesday's (April 29) episode that is now available to view on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on at 7pm. Lucas Hay (Oscar Curtis) was rushed to hospital after a devastating collapse, with subsequent scenes confirming the reason why. The popular character was found unconscious at dad Ste's (Kieron Richardson) flat at Rowing Club Apartments by Rex Gallagher (Jonny Labey) earlier this week. Rex reckoned Grace Black (Tamara Wall), who was found in the flat at the time of the collapse, was to blame but the gangster assured her brother of her innocence as they raced against time to get Lucas to hospital. Over at The Hutch, Ste was enjoying his friends' company amid John Paul McQueen's (James Sutton) and Jez Blake's (Jeremy Sheffield) engagement party when a phone call from Rex left him chilled to the bone. Fearing his son had taken drugs again, Ste swooped into action, determined to make it to the hospital to be with him, with longtime pal and former partner-in-crime Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) offering to drive him. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Sienna, however, had unknowingly been spiked by Martha (Sherrie Hewson) – and this led to complications, with a horror car crash ensuing. Despite this, Ste still made it to the hospital, where Rex was all set to confess to his role in the exploitation operation, believing that Lucas' hospitalisation was ordered by boss DI Banks (Drew Cain). Before he could so do, however, Lucas woke up and – in emotional scenes – he told Ste that Misbah Maalik (Harvey Virdi) had already spoken to him about what led to his collapse. They've found something on his brain, and doctors believe that it's a tumour. Will Lucas be okay? Subsequent scenes will see Ste urging his son to get the surgery he needs in order to get better. Star Oscar Curtis teased the scenes to come last month, telling Metro: 'There is going to be a lot [to come], I'll say that! More Trending 'And also, it's going to get scary… and intense and emotional – but not exactly in a break-up sense. 'I think it's going to get emotional in a 'life and death situation' sense.'
