Jeep unveils new hybrid Cherokee SUV, set to be released in 2025

Jeep has revealed the first details and image of its new Cherokee SUV, set to launch later this year as part of efforts to reverse declining sales. The new midsize SUV from the Stellantis-owned brand will include a hybrid powertrain option, though the company has yet to clarify whether this will be a traditional hybrid or a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). Jeep currently offers PHEV models in its SUV range. Bob Broderdorf, Jeep's CEO, said in a statement: "The all-new Jeep Cherokee headlines our efforts to deliver more product, innovation, choice and standard content to customers than ever before. Jeep Cherokee will boast competitive pricing that strikes at the core of the largest vehicle segment and sits perfectly between Jeep Compass and Jeep Grand Cherokee to bolster our winning mainstream lineup." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jeep (@jeep) Affordability has posed a challenge for Jeep amid rising prices. The entry-level 2022 Cherokee model started at approximately $30,000, close to the current Jeep Compass price of around $27,000. The 2025 Grand Cherokee begins at roughly $36,500. Jeep has yet to disclose further details about the vehicle, including where it will be manufactured. Industry analysts and union officials anticipate production will take place at a plant in Mexico—a decision made before the election of President Donald Trump and the implementation of 25% tariffs on imported vehicles to the US. The previous generation Cherokee was produced at a facility in Illinois, which has been idled since early 2023 following discontinuation amid cost-cutting and production realignment. The cancellation of the Cherokee and the smaller Renegade SUV after the 2023 model year contributed to Jeep's ongoing sales decline. Jeep has faced six consecutive years of falling US sales, reporting a 10% decline in the first quarter of 2025. The Cherokee's launch is expected to be a key focus for incoming Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa, who previously led Jeep's turnaround efforts before his promotion to oversee the company's Americas region.

Jeep's New Rooftop Tent: Is This the Ultimate Overlanding Upgrade?

Overlanding is popular, and automakers have caught on, which is why you can now find off-road-ready versions of nearly every SUV on sale today. Arguably, though, it all started with Jeep, at least in the US. You've been able to church up your Jeep with everything from all-weather maps to winches for years now, but Jeep is taking things to the next level. The Stellantis-owned automaker debuted a rooftop tent at Overland Expo West, sitting atop a hybrid Wrangler 4xe clad in plenty of other modifications. It answers the questions many asked months ago, when Jeep filed a patent for a rooftop tent to attach directly to a Wrangler's roof. The new tent is the result of a collaborative effort between Jeep and Dometic, the latter of which touts over twenty years of experience in the outdoor accessories biz. It touts a carbon fiber shell, a material chosen for its overall lightness and relative durability, but most importantly, the tent bolts right into the Wrangler's roof, meaning no need for a roof rack. That improves aerodynamics and potentially saves a lot of weight. Further reducing weight is Dometic's Air Frame design, which replaces poles traditionally made from steel or other heavier materials with lightweight, inflatable ones. Jeep Performance Parts - the specific Mopar branch responsible for introducing the trick bit of kit - dubbed the tent the "Awning and Rooftop Tent (ARRT) concept." The ARRT features an integrated awning that swings out 270 degrees, providing ample protection from the sun or precipitation. There's even room for a queen-size mattress inside. Since the ARRT is purpose-built for a specific model, it offers some benefits you absolutely won't find on any other rooftop tent. The tent integrates with the SUV in a way that allows access from inside the vehicle via the removable roof panels, complete with a little carbon fiber "step." The step stands over the center console, allowing easy access and protecting the upholstery. As we mentioned, the Jeep tent concept is designed with only a single model in mind, the four-door Wrangler, and Jeep picked a doozy of a way to showcase the tent. The ARRT sits atop the Jeep Wrangler 4xe Rubicon Sunchaser concept, which debuted back in April. The Sunchaser touts a bevvy of other factory-fresh modifications, including a two-inch lift, Mopar lightbar, 37-inch BFGoodrich mud tires, rock rails, and vented steel fender flares. Inside, the Sunchaser wears custom two-tone leather seats, gloss black interior trim, all-weather floor mats, and more. There is no official word on whether or not the ARRT will ever see a life outside of conventions and trade shows, but we sure hope so. There's no doubt in our mind that Jeep's rooftop tent would sell like hotcakes. While it may seem like a long-overdue accessory from a brand like Jeep, there are actually relatively few OEMs that offer a rooftop tent in their parts catalog, with Volvo being the only one that immediately jumps to mind. While quality is undoubtedly beyond reproach, Jeep could run into a similar problem as Volvo: cost. Quality aside, there are numerous less expensive options for Volvo shoppers interested in a rooftop tent. Based on the quality and construction of the ARRT, we don't think it would come cheap. Here's hoping it comes to market one way or the other, though. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Ram Reveals Revamped, Stylish Sub-$50K 1500 Express

From rural pastures to the quiet cul-de-sacs of the suburbs outside America's big cities, pickup trucks are vehicles driven by people from all walks of life. Their size and practical utility are some of the characteristics that keep new and potential truck buyers interested in these machines and set them apart from other segments. Like many new cars these days, brand-new pickup trucks are more than a pretty penny to get into, which leaves some buyers having to decide between breaking the bank or settling for something else. However, Ram's newest truck for 2026 is aimed at buyers who want more premium features and utility for their dollar. Though the Stellantis-owned Ram already brought back the Ram 1500 with a new skin for the 2025 model year, it is now reviving one of its most popular trim levels with an entirely new spin for 2026. The Ram 1500 Express may be the cheapest Ram in the shed, but it's being presented as a feature-packed machine for not much more money than the work-centric 1500 Tradesman. Available as a crew cab and a quad cab with the choice of rear-or four-wheel drive, the Ram 1500 Express packs a lot of truck for a base price of $44,495, which includes destination fees. Under the hood is a 305 horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, and for $1,695, buyers can upgrade to the 420 horsepower 3-liter Hurricane SO inline-six. Ram says that rear-wheel drive quad cab Express trucks with the optional engine are tow rated up to 11,550 lbs. Though it may sound like a tall order to promise so much truck for under $50,000, this Ram packs a laundry list of features for the price. Standard on the Express are 20-inch wheels, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian emergency braking, and black-bezel LED headlights. Ram says that the Express version of the 1500 has a "menacing, badge-less monochromatic paint scheme," featuring gloss-black grille surrounds and body-colored front and rear bumpers for the a subdued, stylish, and stealthy look. Though the Express looks like a secret agent's special ride in Diamond Black, Ram is also offering the truck in Bright White, Granite Crystal, Forged Blue, and Hydro Blue. Buyers of four-wheel drive Quad and Crew cab Express models will also have the chance to get the Black Express package, which offers a litany of blacked-out trim pieces and accessories, including black 20-inch wheels, black color badges, a sport hood, side steps, and LED fog lights. The package also includes an upgraded cabin with black cloth bucket seats, a floor console, and a 7-inch gauge cluster. Ram says that the new 1500 Express will be built at its truck plant in Sterling Heights, Michigan. It expects to open orders for the 2026 Ram 1500 Express sometime in the third quarter of 2025. Before options, the most expensive variant, the 4WD Crew Cab will start at $51,095. In the official press release, Ram brand CEO Tim Kuniskis noted that the introduction of the 1500 Express is the latest move in revamping the brand's strategy for selling more trucks in the future. "The Express is the latest drop in Ram's product offensive," Kuniskis said. "We started the 2025 model year with a new Ram 1500 and new Ram Heavy Duty lineup. With the platforms refreshed, we begin rolling out trim level enhancements." Kuniskis also said that Ram isn't done introducing new products, as it has "25 more product announcements planned within the next 18 months, ranging from mild to wild with something for every truck buyer." The existence of the Express as an "essentials" truck with some of the toys of the higher trims, like the Big Horn and Tungsten, seems like a great package at a time when buyers want a foot-in-the-door into a cool-looking truck they can feel proud of having. Jeep Drivers Bombarded With Ads for Extended Warranty on Their Center Console Displays

The smartphone-ification of cars continues to unleash new horrors of tech-inflected capitalism. Just ask Jeep drivers, who are suffering through an extremely intrusive way the automaker is pestering them to buy an extended warranty: pop-up ads that take up the entire infotainment screen of their vehicles, our sister site The Drive reports. In a post on the r/assholedesign subreddit last week, the owner of a 2022 Grand Cherokee complained about the intrusion, claiming the ads returned every time they came to a stop, "even if you hit ok." So, stop sign? Ad. Red light? Ad. Get cut off and hit the brakes? Hey, here's that warranty you didn't want! "Purchase Peace of Mind," the ad for Jeep's "Flexcare Extended Care Premium" plan reads, very much hogging all of the center console panel's real estate. How about some peace and quiet? Well, if it can connect to the internet, it can be an advertisement delivery system. And you bet that companies are going to take advantage of that. Maybe, just maybe, making every car dependent on a touch screen was a mistake. According to The Drive's sleuthing, it's not a new issue, with the earliest complaints cropping up two years ago. But here's the most baffling part: the owner claims they had already reached 36,000 miles driven in their Jeep — the maximum limit the advertised warranty would cover. In other words, they were getting hounded for nothing. "I hit 36,000 miles last week," the owner said in a reply. "It started coming up yesterday." According to the Stellantis-owned automaker, the frequency of the ads wasn't intentional. "This was an in-vehicle message designed to inform Jeep customers about Mopar extended vehicle care options," a Jeep spokesperson told The Drive in a statement. "A temporary software glitch affected the ability to instantly opt out in a few isolated cases, though instant opt-out is the standard for all our in-vehicle messages." "Our team had already identified and corrected the error, and we are following up directly with the customer to ensure the matter is fully resolved," the spokesperson added. Mistake or not, no one should be happy with the idea of their $40,000 vehicle asking you to spend even more money. But at this point, the genie is already out of the bottle. Competitors like Mercedes, for example, demand that you pay a pricy subscription to unlock their electric cars' full speed — something that requires no physical modifications and only takes changing a setting somewhere in the vehicle's software. There is a way to permanently disable the ads. And no, it's not intuitive at all — it's not even through the car. Nope: owners have to go the Jeep Connect website, The Drive found, make an account, link your car to the account, and explore a bunch of menus to finally reach the option to disable "in-vehicle notifications." Good luck explaining that to grandpa. More on dumb tech in cars: Europe Tells Automakers That Buttons and Knobs Are Safer Than Touchscreens
