ITV Deal Or No Deal viewers 'switch off' as they share same complaint about show
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info ITV's broadcast of a Deal Or No Deal celebrity special went down like a lead balloon among viewers who all complained about one particular aspect of the show. Monday's episode was a repeat of the December 8, 2024 special, which featured I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! winner Sam Thompson attempting the beat the banker. Stephen Mulhern returned as the host to help Sam, also known for his exploits on Made In Chelsea, win money for his chosen charity as he was reunited with some of his close friends, including TOWIE's Pete Wicks, and his former jungle mates such as actors Danielle Harold and Nick Pickard. However, viewers were left less than impressed, with complaints flooding in about one particular aspect that detracted from their enjoyment. Disgruntled viewers took to social media to vent, labelling the show "unwatchable". Criticism was aimed at ITV for allocating screen time to those deemed "Z-List celebrities". (Image: ITV) One viewer commented: "You clearly have a very different definition of 'TV legend' than the rest of us. Unless it means the most annoying nothing on TV." A second viewer flew into a rage, saying: "#DealorNoDeal is on and it's f*****g horrendous at best of times, but f*****g unwatchable with all the Z Lister so called celebrities." A third questioned the show's casting choices, adding: "There may be an obvious answer but how can Deal or No Deal have a celebrity special without having any celebrities in it." A fourth quipped about a potential silver lining in the episode, saying: "The only famous one there Paul who has a hilarious TikTok sketches and he just opens a box at the very end #dealornodeal." (Image: ITV) Elsewhere, Sam opened up last Sunday about being diagnosed with autism, after having previously disclosed his ADHD diagnosis in 2023. He termed the condition a "blessing" and referred to it as his "superpower". He candidly admitted feeling there was more to his earlier diagnosis and opted for a fun-filled approach to sharing the news on Instagram. His video featured him portraying two sides of himself – one embodying his true self and the other his ADHD persona. Text displayed in the engaging clip stated: "You got diagnosed with ADHD in your late twenties, but something still doesn't add up..." Crafting a light-hearted yet informative narrative, the reality TV personality captioned his post with: "Knew there was more to the story," followed by a chuckling emoji. The post received a wave of affirmative comments, commending his use of humour to highlight and educate on the matter, reports the Express. Stephen Mulhern broke down in first TV show since death of his dad Christopher
Stephen Mulhern has opened up about his upcoming ITV documentary special The Accidental Tourist Stephen Mulhern has revealed that he cried in his first TV show following the death of his dad, Christopher. The 48-year-old presenter is known for appearing on Britain's Got More Talent, Saturday Night Takeaway, Dancing on Ice, In for a Penny and Catchphrase. Now, viewers will see a more emotional side to Stephen in the upcoming ITV special, The Accidental Tourist, which will air later this year. The one-off documentary sees Ant and Dec send Stephen to somewhere he has never been before, in an effort to help test his resolve and push his boundaries. Stephen arrives in South Korea, where he will encounter epic locations, exotic cultures and cuisines, incredible people and places, and exhilarating activities he would never have chosen for himself. The show was filmed just after Stephen's dad, Christopher, passed away last year. Speaking to the Mirror, Stephen opened up about the raw emotions he felt at the time, saying: "No one's ever seen me cry on the telly. "But it was quite nice to not be behind a format, I've never done that. You're going to see behind the razzle-dazzle, if you like. People have thankfully seen me on TV for nearly 25 years, but they may go, 'Well, what's he like at home? Is he going out with someone?' "I'm at the very centre of this, and it's scary. They film and they film and they film and they just get everything. I think what you're going to see is a lot of emotion. You'll see me totally out of my comfort zone." It reportedly took ITV bosses over three years to persuade Stephen to take part in the show, with the star now revealing that he is "gutted" that his father won't be able to see how his adventures panned out. "My dad had just passed away, so that's the only thing. I'm gutted that he didn't see it," he said." The Accidental Tourist has been compared to the hit Sky travel series, An Idiot Abroad, which saw comedians Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant make their friend Karl Pilkington travel around the globe, while monitoring his progress from the UK. Addressing the comparisons, Stephen explained: "The difference is that I got very emotional because of the timing. "I'm not very worldly. I don't travel a lot. And my body's been used to eating plain food." The star continued: "The food was just horrific, we'd try things like octopus, fish, penis, something they dug out the very bottom of the sea and like a worm that's wriggling, but when you squeeze it squirts water. "When I came back, I couldn't eat for two and a half weeks. I literally couldn't stomach anything - I lost half a stone." The experience was so challenging that Stephen nearly quit halfway through, but managed to continue filming. On whether he'd do it again, Stephen candidly said: "The answer is, I don't know."

Stephen Mulhern breaks down in tears after year from hell as he films new TV show following beloved father's tragic death and own health battle that saw him rushed to hospital and undergo mystery procedure
Stephen Mulhern has revealed he broke down in tears while filming new travel show The Accidental Tourist, following his year from hell. In 2024 the presenter, 48, was not only left heartbroken following his beloved father Christopher's death, but also battled through his own health woes and was rushed to hospital after collapsing at a Pizza Express. The new one-off ITV show sees Stephen's pals Ant McPartlin, 49, and Declan Donnelly, 49, whisk him away to South Korea to push him out of his comfort zone to eat food he does not like and was filmed shortly after his father's death. Stephen told the Daily Mirror: 'No one's ever seen me cry on the telly, but it was quite nice to not be behind a format, I've never done that. You're going to see behind the razzle-dazzle if you like'. The Catchphrase host loved has pride in himself for starring in the show - which reportedly took him three years to be persuaded to do, but said was 'gutted' that his father was not alive to see how he got on. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. An emotional Stephen admitted: 'My dad had just passed away, so that's the only thing. I'm gutted that he didn't see it.' He continued: 'People have thankfully seen me on TV for nearly 25 years, but they may go, 'Well, what's he like at home? Is he going out with someone? I'm at the very centre of this, and it's scary'. 'They film and they film and they film and they just get everything. I think what you're going to see is a lot of emotion. You'll see me totally out of my comfort zone.' It was announced in November that Stephen's father Christopher had passed away, with a spokesperson for the star telling told: 'Stephen has had an incredibly tough time over the past few weeks. 'His beloved father recently passed away which has hit him hard and has been understandably very stressful'. Stephen was born in east London in 1977 to parents Christopher and Maureen who worked as market traders. The star has credited his success to his parents saying: 'I don't mean to sound soppy, but they worked so incredibly hard to bring up me and my two brothers and sister.' Raised alongside his three siblings, he honed his people skills by working on his father's market stall before he went on to pursue his career as a magician. Shortly after Stephen's father died he was rushed to hospital after he collapsed while eating at a Pizza Express following an unknown medical procedure he had earlier in the day Then shortly after Stephen was rushed to hospital after he collapsed while eating at a Pizza Express following an unknown medical procedure he had earlier in the day. After paramedics helped him, he was put on the phone to his mother to assure her that he was OK. A source told The Sun: 'Stephen has been going through an incredibly tough time of late. He is grieving the loss of his dad to whom he was so, so close. 'He's also been battling several well-documented health problems, and on Wednesday morning had a procedure requiring a local anaesthetic. 'He took himself off for a quiet, solo dinner that evening, had a few drinks and just reacted incredibly badly. He's only human, and his dad's death has hit him hard.' Stephen first sparked concern after he pulled out of Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway back in April 2024 after he was struck down with illness. He reportedly told producers on the Saturday morning of filming that he was not up for doing the show that evening as he was feeling under the weather. While he was absent from the show, the nature of his illness wasn't revealed but a source close to Stephen told The Sun on Sunday: 'Stephen was due to be on a small section of the show, but sadly he was feeling a bit too poorly to perform. 'When he realised he would be too under the weather to show up he called first thing on Saturday morning to let the team know. 'They were able to rejig the format and make it work without him.' Stephen has also had a stressful time regarding one of his properties after his tenants claimed they had been living with damp and mould for years. The presenter was forced to apologise to the tenants living in a house owned by his £4million firm after they said they felt 'bitter and alienated' after having their complaints ignored for two to three years. Stephen suffered another blow after his beloved ITV show In For A Penny was axed, according to The Mirror, a shock decision meant his own fan-favourite Saturday night gameshow has been shelved after six series - but, bosses haven't ruled out a potential return and suggested it may have just been temporarily paused. An ITV source told MailOnline: 'Whilst Stephen is busy filming other projects over the summer, In For A Penny continues to be a much loved format for ITV. 'So don't put your pennies away just yet as the team could be popping up in your local town, to challenge even more members of the public to take part in their unique and madcap games in the future!'

Stephen Mulhern reveals surprising reason he won't miss co-host Holly Willoughby after she quit You Bet & DOI was axed
STEPHEN MULHERN wants to kick off a new era of his career, ditching his 'Mr Beige' tag to become the new Bruce Forsyth. And it is all because sidekick Holly Willoughby ditched him for Netflix. 7 7 The duo lost Dancing On Ice when it was shelved by ITV earlier this year and Holly also stepped back from co-hosting gameshow You Bet! with him. But Stephen remains busier than ever with Celebrity Catchphrase and three new shows in the works. Chatting to TV Biz, he said: 'I'm gutted she's not doing You Bet! with me, but I've had time to think about it and Bruce Forsyth was the first person to do You Bet! and he did it on his own. 'Matthew Kelly made it the best show on the telly. 'And every time I've been interviewed and they say, 'What show would you bring back?' I've always said 'You Bet!' 'So maybe it happened for a reason. We've filmed one episode already without Holly, and it felt very comfortable. Maybe it is just a one-presenter show.' 'I cried a lot' Stephen has become an ITV stalwart through his work with Holly, Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly. But now he is forging his own path. So much so that, chatting to my reporter Felicity on the Catchphrase set, the former magician revealed he has an idea for a show — and is coughing up his own cash to pay for it. Stephen said: 'It's very hard to pitch stuff on paper, you've got to show people so I'm just going to invest my own money into it then pitch it. Watch moment Holly Willoughby is left red-faced as Dancing On Ice co-host Stephen Mulhern makes x-rated joke on live TV 'I want to do a bit of magic, a bit of wind-up, practical jokes . . . the key is for the family to sit down and enjoy it.' And now Stephen is ready to finally let viewers see the real him after agreeing to film an ITV travelogue with Ant & Dec along the lines of An Idiot Abroad, called Accidental Tourist. Stephen said: ' Emma WIllis called me Fifty Shades Of Beige because all my food is beige. 'I don't travel a lot, I always go to Florida — the food's safe. 'But the idea is I step out my comfort zone. I was doing stuff that I'd never do. 'When people see it they'll see a completely different side. It's stripped down. Everyone's like, 'Oh Stephen, he's so nice' but on this I think you're going to see it. 'People have seen me on TV for nearly 25 years and they go, 'What's he like at home? Is he going out with someone?'' 7 Being exposed in that way was a lot for Stephen. He added: 'You'll see a lot of emotion, 100 per cent. You'll see me totally out of my comfort zone. 'I remember sitting on the bed, and I was like, 'Was this the right choice? Was it the right decision?' 'They film and film and film. I've never done that. No one's ever seen me cry but I cried a lot.' For now Stephen is back in his comfort zone, filming a fresh series of Celebrity Catchphrase. Michelle Visage, Melanie Blatt and Seann Walsh are some of the celebs appearing on the current run, which continues this Sunday at 6.55pm on ITV and STV. And Stephen has now filmed more episodes than show legend Roy Walker. He said: 'I used to watch Catchphrase growing up. I love it because of the gameplay of it. You can never call it. 'The secret to success now is proper family entertainment. 'If you can't sum up the show in a sentence, it will never work. Play Your Cards Right, higher or lower. You Bet!, will they do it, will they not? 'Catchphrase, say what you see. Deal Or No deal, pick the right box.' So what is the secret to his own success? 'Because I'm not the rebel! You hear of certain performers or presenters and they go, 'They're bang out of order'. And you go, 'Well, they're not working now. . .'' Never change, Mr Beige. 7 Sister act two for Ella ELLA BRUCCOLERI was the unassuming Sister Frances in Call The Midwife, and her latest role is set to be every bit as understated. I can reveal that the actress, who left the period hospital drama in 2022, has been cast as Mary Bennet in BBC One's The Other Bennet Sister. 7 Mary is the seemingly unremarkable middle sibling in Jane Austen's Pride And Prejudice, and the story sees her stepping out of her sisters' shadows to find her own epic love story. The ten-parter, which starts filming soon, is based on Janice Hadlow's bestselling novel of the same name. Ella, who says she can 'relate' to Mary, described writer Sarah Quintrell's scripts as warm and humorous. She added: 'They reveal that beneath Mary's awkwardness and formality lies a woman longing for purpose and connection.' 'Ender line for Bernie EASTENDERS favourite Clair Norris has been axed after eight years on the soap, bringing an end to one of the show's favourite families. Clair's character Bernie Taylor made her debut in 2017 alongside onscreen mum Karen (Lorraine Stanley) and brother Keanu (Danny Walters), who became a victim of The Six in 2023. 7 It comes three months after executive producer Chris Clenshaw was replaced by Ben Wadey. A source said: 'When a soap gets a new boss they want to make their own mark, it's nothing personal. 'She was the last Taylor standing and it's time to close the chapter on them.' I'm sure the imminent return of Jake Wood as Max Branning after four years away will bring more drama.
