Steve Carell Says Mountainhead Is ‘Succession-ish': ‘It's Darker And Chilling'
Last Updated: Steve Carell reacts to the internet comparing Mountainhead to popular TV series, Succession, and expresses worry over living in a high-tech world where AI rules the roost. Following Succession, which ended two years ago, creator Jesse Armstrong returns with Mountainhead, set to premiere on HBO on May 31. While Jesse once said he wasn't sure if he wanted to make a follow-up to his iconic series, his upcoming outing is drawing attention for its Succession-style exploration of male ambition, power, wealth, and greed. Mountainhead is set in a world dominated by AI, tech bros, and Meta-style giants, who also hold the power to trigger eco-political instability. Speaking exclusively to News18, Steve Carell, who plays one of the protagonists in Mountainhead, responds to comparisons between the show and Succession. He says the Hiam Abbass, Nicholas Braun, and Brian Cox-starring series was 'dark," but that Mountainhead is 'darker" and 'crazier." 'I think it's Succession-ish in the sense that it's created by Jesse Armstrong. But it's different. It's different in terms of its tone," The Office star tells us. Steve actually prefers to compare Mountainhead to Stanley Kubrick's 1964 Cold War satire Dr. Strangelove, which also tackled themes of power and ambition. 'I loved Succession and that's the reason I signed on to this. I was and am a huge fan of Jesse's. But tonally, they're a little bit different. To me, Mountainhead feels like a modern-day Doctor Strangelove, and that's one of my favourite films of all time. The darkness and the tether Mountainhead has to reality in this moment is chilling," he states. The trailer touches upon the far-reaching consequences of AI and deepfakes, evoking growing AI-related anxieties. One scene portrays a violence-engulfed Asia following a deepfake outbreak that further distorts the perception of reality. 'To a degree, it's terrifying. The fact that this technology not only exists but is further along than most of us understand and that the timeline between where we are and what's depicted in the film might not be that far is terrifying," says a concerned Steve. Mountainhead is already receiving rave reviews for its satirical depiction of a tech-ruled, high-stakes world. Elaborating on the film's core themes, Steve remarks, 'That's why there's a bone-chilling essence to it. This is potentially a real issue we'll face as a society going forward. I loved the way Jesse crafted this film. It's incredibly frightening, but there's also some kind of a palette cleanse with very, very funny moments. I think he has it both ways." Is it a 'no-brainer' to cash in on Fernandes?
We asked for your views on Bruno Fernandes, who is considering leaving Manchester United to sign for Saudi Pro League side are some of your comments:Ian: Massive respect for Bruno. He has had a difficult five years at Old Trafford with all the negativity surrounding the club but has shown his quality time after time. If he wants to move on who can blame him? Blame the people who run the club. United could sign three players with the money who fit into the manager's system. If they are sticking with the manager, that would be a positive way to For what he's given to the club over the past five years I think we owe him the choice to either stay or leave. He has literally carried the club since he was signed. I wish him all the best if he does If Fernandes goes, we will surely be relegated next £80-£100m for a player who will be 31 in a few months is a no-brainer for a club needing to rebuild and with limited finances due to Thumbs up for the deal. First, Bruno gets to reset his career away from physical and mental stress of the Premier League while earning loads of money. Secondly Manchester United get money to reinvest. The rumoured money would be a godsend to help rebuild the team with players fit for the rigours of the Premier League. United are never going to get this kind of money for any player of this age profile in the next 20 The Mainoo goal v Manchester City in the FA Cup final was assisted by Bruno. The move started with a beautiful pass from Rashford to Garnacho, then on to Bruno and finally Mainoo. Rashford is all but gone,. Garnacho is all but gone. Now we're talking about Bruno going, and possibly Mainoo. That move should have been the start of something special. Just what has gone wrong at Old Trafford?

Pilot explains why you should never use plane seat pockets
An airline pilot has warned passengers to avoid using the seat pockets on the back of airplane seats, as this common habit could lead to them losing their personal belongings forever A pilot has urged passengers not to use the back pockets of plane seats for a simple reason. In the confines of a budget airline seat, there's hardly any room going spare. Once you've slotted your bag under your seat, placed your book on the fold-down table, and scrunched up a jumper to lean your head against, pretty much every square-inch is accounted for. Except, of course, for the plane seat pocket. Steve Schreiber, 63, from New Orleans, has urged passengers not to fall for temptation and use the storage pouch. He is a man with experience of these matters, having spent 26 years piloting planes and 5,680 hours in total flying aircraft. On his Youtube channel, @captainsteeeve, the aviator shares flying tips. He recently warned against using the "black hole of despair" when flying. According to Steve, the seat pocket is one of the easiest places to lose objects. "Stop putting personal items in the seat back pocket in front of you. If you want to lose it and never see it again, put it in that dark hole that is the seat back pocket in front of you," he said. The pilot said that many passengers return to his plane having disembarked only to realise they have left items in the pocket. At that point, getting back on can be difficult. He said: "If the airplane is still at the gate, fingers crossed that somebody who cares can go out there and find the thing that you left in that seat back pocket." The pilot suggested that passengers triple-check they have all of their belongings in their possession before disembarking. There are other reasons why you may want to avoid using the pocket. Cici urged passengers to avoid putting anything in seat pockets due to their unhygienic nature. She said that they are "gross" as people put "all kinds of things in there" The flight attendant then went on to implore her followers not to put their jackets or loose items in the overhead bin, also citing cleanliness as the reason why. She explained: "I mean I've never seen them cleaned and I've seen people's stuff spill out of their bags and get all over people's jackets, clothes or whatever so just don't do it." Previously a post on the Reddit forum 'Flight attendants of Reddit, a user named HausofDarling said the seat pocket on a commercial jet was a place best avoided at all costs. They explained: "I always recommend you never, ever, ever, ever use or put anything in the seat pocket. They are cleared of rubbish but are never 'cleaned'. "I have pulled out and seen all sorts been pulled out from there. Dirty tissues, sick bags, knickers, socks, gum, half sucked sweets, apple cores, and then next flight you go and put your phone, laptop or iPad in there."

Sen. Blanco secures $65M to expand cancer care center in El Paso
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A total of $65 million has been secured in the final state budget to support construction of the Steve and Nancy Fox Cancer Center and a new Clinical Sciences Building at Texas Tech Health El Paso, state Sen. César J. Blanco, D-El Paso, announced on Thursday, May 29, in a news release. According to the news release, the total state investment is now $130 million. The cancer center, whose construction is expected to begin this year, is named in honor of El Paso community leaders and philanthropists, Steve and Nancy Fox, whose family donated $25 million to help recruit top doctors, staff, and researchers, according to the news release. Blanco issued the following statement: 'El Paso is the largest city in Texas without a comprehensive cancer center. That means too many families are forced to travel hundreds of miles for care they should be able to get right here at home. 'I'm proud to have secured this critical state funding to help change that. The Fox Cancer Center will be the first of its kind in our region, delivering advanced, multidisciplinary cancer care, research, and patient support services tailored to the needs of our Borderplex. 'This investment is a major step toward closing the gap in access to care for Hispanic and rural patients, and toward meeting the rising demand for cancer treatment in Far West Texas.' Neighbours 'in shock' over Liverpool parade suspect
Neighbours have described their shock and disbelief after discovering the suspect in the Liverpool parade investigation lives close by. A 53-year-old man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder remains in custody for questioning after a car ploughed into football fans during Liverpool's Premier League victory parade in the city centre on Monday. A nine-year-old girl was the youngest victim from a total of 79 casualties struck by the Ford Galaxy on Water Street shortly after 18:00 BST. One neighbour, who asked to remain anonymous, said everyone was "in shock" while a mechanic, who works in the area, described the suspect as a "family man". The neighbour said he first realised the suspect lived close by in the West Derby area of Liverpool when he noticed police officers on shift outside a property. "I knew something was going on," he said. "That's when I thought this is the guy." He said everyone was "in shock" and "can't believe it". "It's such a quiet estate," he added. "Everyone keeps themselves to themselves as he did, so no-one really knows much about him." Steve, who works as mechanic, said he had met the suspect when he brought the family car in for a service – most recently three months ago. He said he recognised the vehicle straightaway on the news from the registration plate. "I thought 'Oh my god. I can't believe it – surely not'," he said. He said the suspect was a "softly spoken family man" who seemed "sensible". "I can't see how this has happened. It's crazy," he added. Another neighbour said she had enjoyed watching the parade with her family before discovering what had happened. "Everyone was saddened by the end of the day while watching the news – and to think that [the suspect] lives on my street is just really shocking," she said. She added that it was a "lovely" and "peaceful" place to live. "I don't know him but all the neighbours down both sides of the street – we've all been friends, we all have barbecues, we've been on holidays together. "It's a close knit community." Merseyside Police said the force had been given more time to question the suspect, who was also detained on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drugs, until Thursday evening. Under laws around the detention of suspects, police forces can keep a person in custody for 24 hours without charge, while a senior officer of at least superintendent rank can sign off on an initial 12-hour extension. After that, an application can be made to a magistrates' court for further 12-hour extensions to a maximum of 96 hours - or 14 days if the offence is terrorism related. The force previously confirmed the incident was not being treated as terror related. Hundreds of thousands of jubilant Liverpool fans packed the city centre on Bank Holiday Monday and lined the 10-mile (16km) parade route as the Reds celebrated winning their second Premier League crown and 20th top-flight league title. In a press conference on Tuesday, police said it was believed the car had followed an ambulance through a road block, which had been lifted to allow medics to reach someone having a suspected heart attack. A fundraising campaign set up for those affected by the incident has raised more than £30,000, including a £10,000 donation from ex-player Jamie Carragher's charity foundation.
