Kendrick Perkins sends ‘elite' Jonathan Kuminga message to Warriors' Steve Kerr
The post Kendrick Perkins sends 'elite' Jonathan Kuminga message to Warriors' Steve Kerr appeared first on ClutchPoints. In a year where restricted free agents have struggled to find paydays, Jonathan Kuminga remains unsigned. He told reporters that he is not in a rush to sign a new deal with the Golden State Warriors. Jimmy Butler's arrival at the trade deadline changed Warriors head coach Steve Kerr's rotations, hurting Kuminga in the process. Now, Kendrick Perkins is calling him out for it. When Stephen Curry went down during Golden State's second-round series, Kuminga stepped up. He finished the 2025 playoffs averaged 15.3 points per game, including at least 23 points in the team's final three games. Unfortunately for him, Butler is a ball-dominant forward who replaced him in Kerr's starting lineup. Down the stretch of the regular season, he was getting DNP's. Perkins pointed out Kuminga's production, saying that Kerr and the organization need to give him more opportunity. According to him, the 22-year-old has what it takes to develop into a premier player in the NBA. 'He's gotten better every single season,' Perkins said about Kuminga. 'He brings athleticism to the table on both ends of the floor, he's gotten better offensively…..He's one of the most athletic guys in the NBA….' Perkins questioned why Kerr has not tried to incorporate Kuminga into the team's approach. Instead of integrating him into the offense, the Warriors have valued players like Curry and Butler ahead of him. 'My question to the Warriors, the organization and Steve Kerr, is why hasn't Steve Kerr embraced this young man?' Perkins asked. 'That's what the Warriors need to do. They need to value this young man because he's elite.' Golden State remains stoic in their desire to sign Kuminga to a deal far lesser than what he was looking for. While teams are interest in the Warriors' forward, those conversations have not born much fruit. If Kerr has Kuminga on his roster next season, both entities will have to figure out how to co-exist and find success. Golden State Warriors remain short-handed after three weeks of NBA free agency
The Golden State Warriors only have nine players under contract heading into the 2025-26 NBA season. There's been no movement from the franchise during the opening three weeks of NBA free agency. Rumors linking the Warriors to Al Horford and a return for De'Anthony Melton are yet to materialize. Furthermore, Golden State's negotiations with restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga appear to have reached a stalemate. As such, the Warriors are in a difficult spot as we approach the dead point in the summer. Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Joe Lacob will both understand the need to get the ball rolling on some potential additions to the roster. After all, Steve Kerr will want a full team ready for when tranining camp and preseason begins later this year. In a recent episode of ESPN's NBA Today, cap expert Bobby Marks explained the uphill battle the Warriors currently face, and why it's important for the franchise to start gaining traction on some roster additions in the coming weeks. Why the Warriors 'hold all the cards' with Jonathan Kuminga
Why the Warriors 'hold all the cards' with Jonathan Kuminga Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill is joined by ESPN senior NBA writer Marc J. Spears to discuss if the Golden State Warriors will re-sign restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga. Hear the full conversation on 'Good Word with Goodwill' and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Advertisement Video Transcript One team that has been conspicuously quiet has been the Golden State Warriors in free agency No big moves. You've got Jonathan Kuminga in restricted free agency agency, which is always a tricky thing. What is their overall outlook? Well, you got Jonathan Kuminga there, you got Draymond Green there, and you gotta figure out this Kuminga situation. Well, I'm sure Kuminga is in town, supposed to meet with Steve Kerr and Mike Dunleavy Jr. And you know, try to figure it out, and the Warriors hold all the cards. Yeah. Sad to say for Kuminga, man, he just has no power in this. It's just not a good market. Advertisement You know, it makes you wonder, should these guys bet on themselves, take a qualifying offer, and just bet on yourself? Like if you're Kuminga, you don't bet on yourself unless you know your role, right? And your role is advantageous. And if, you know, Steve and Mike are honest and the role isn't advantageous, then you find a trade for him. That's what I would do if I was him. They might be kicking themselves now, it's like you heard about that. Those conversations that he had before last season where maybe he could have signed an extension. Like his people were expecting so much more and they kind of bet on him last season, and other than December, and maybe a game against Houston in the playoffs, he hasn't had an opportunity to prove himself. Advertisement So why hasn't it worked there from the outside looking in? You know, from our relative distance, it looks like if you don't fit in the Stephen Curry system, so to speak, the system that revolves around him, then you don't have a place. If you have Kuminga, Draymond, and, and Kuminga out there respectfully, that's three non-shooters on the floor. And I think that is where the difficulty was. It's more than just shooting, it's you have to have a Harvard-like basketball IQ. The way they do things, if you watch them play. They need everybody to be on that kind of page for it to work right with Steph and Draymond.

Warriors share perfect Kevon Looney video tribute
The post Warriors share perfect Kevon Looney video tribute appeared first on ClutchPoints. Fans of the Golden State Warriors didn't hide their grief after longtime center Kevon Looney decided to move on and signed with the New Orleans Pelicans as a free agent. Advertisement Looney agreed to a two-year contract with the Pelicans worth $16 million. He will provide veteran leadership in the frontcourt, guiding young big men Yves Missi, Karlo Matkovic, and Derik Queen. The 29-year-old Looney will definitely be missed in the Bay Area, where he spent his first 10 seasons in the NBA after being drafted by the Warriors as the 30th overall pick in 2015. Over the years, he had become a fan favorite with his grit, tenacity, and professionalism. On X, the Warriors shared a video tribute for Looney—make sure you have tissues around—showing his milestones with the squad, highlighted by his three championships. It also included a narration from former general manager Bob Myers, who took a chance on Looney as a diamond in the rough. 'It doesn't matter where you're picked. It matters what you do from that day on or that evening on. So if you're the first pick, it doesn't mean you made it. If you're the 30th pick or the 60th pick, it doesn't mean you didn't,' said Myers. His teammates and coach Steve Kerr also had nothing but positive words for Looney, calling him the 'ultimate glue guy' and a 'special human being.' Warriors star Stephen Curry summarized Looney's contributions perfectly. Advertisement 'His voice, it matters when he speaks up, and he's as important to the fabric of our team culture as anybody,' said Curry. Aside from Looney's workhorse quality on the floor, he was also an integral part of the community in Golden State, especially with the kids. To some, his willingness to give back was his true value. The fact that the Warriors made a tribute video even before his return to Chase Center is a testament to how beloved Looney is in the Bay Area. The move Golden State Warriors still must make in 2025 NBA free agency
The post The move Golden State Warriors still must make in 2025 NBA free agency appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Golden State Warriors are amid a period of uncertainty with superstar Stephen Curry still recovering from a hamstring injury and the front office still looking for pieces to soup up the roster. Advertisement While it's quite feasible that Curry will return in full health for next season, it remains to be seen how the said setback, which he suffered for the first time, would affect his performance, at least in the Warriors' first few weeks. Golden State hasn't made a splash in free agency yet. But by the looks of it, the team's biggest priority, pun unintended, should be finding a big man. There's a tinge of irony to it, as Warriors coach Steve Kerr is notorious for his continued adherence to small ball. The exit of fan favorite Kevon Looney, who signed with the New Orleans Pelicans, only compounded the Warriors' woes at the center position. While Trayce Jackson-Davis and Quentin Post are serviceable, the squad needs more well-rounded talent. The Warriors should sign a center in free agency D. Ross Cameron-Imagn Images The easy choice here would be free agent veteran Al Horford. He's already being rumored to join the Warriors this offseason after moving on from the Boston Celtics. Last season, at 38 years old, Horford averaged 9.0 points and 6.2 rebounds in 27.7 minutes per outing. Advertisement He would be a perfect fit for the Warriors on both ends. A pair of Horford and Draymond Green on defense would make life difficult for opposing big men. Horford is a smart and seasoned player who could immediately pick up the team's system. He can also stretch the floor, which is a big plus for Kerr. The obvious downside, of course, is Horford's age. He would only make a team with a core of Curry, Green, and Jimmy Butler feel even older. Last season, the Warriors were the second-oldest team in the NBA behind the Phoenix Suns with an average age of 28.2. Other options for the Warriors If they can't land Horford, the Warriors could also target Bol Bol. He spent the last two seasons with the Phoenix Suns, but his full potential remains untapped due to limited minutes. Advertisement While Bol is a downgrade from Horford, he has the tools to produce numbers on both ends, especially as a rim protector. He's long, athletic, and mobile. He can also shoot from the outside and has shown glimpses of good passing. If he finds consistent playing time with the Warriors, he could be a huge pickup. It's also worth noting that he's just 25 years old. When he was inserted into the starting lineup last season, Bol showed that he can keep up, even scoring a pair of 20-point games and tallying a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds in that stretch. The experiment, however, didn't last long as he only started 10 games. If they miss out on Horford and Bol, another option (arguably the best one) would be to acquire Chicago Bulls star Nikola Vucevic. After all, he's been linked to rumors involving the Warriors in the past. While he's not a free agent, the Bay Area should be more aggressive in trying to get the two-time All-Star. Vucevic averaged 18.5 points on a career-high 53.0% shooting last season. He also shot 40.2% from beyond the arc—the second highest of his career—and tallied 10.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists. Advertisement While he's not exactly young at 34 years old, he's still more agile and athletic than Horford and way more polished than Bol. The Warriors could offer the Bulls a package headlined by forward Jonathan Kuminga in exchange for Vucevic, who is set to earn $21.4 million this season. It could be a win-win situation, as Kuminga and Vucevic haven't really panned out for Golden State and Chicago, respectively. Golden State has found success even without a prolific center (Looney, Andrew Bogut, JaVale McGee, Zaza Pachulia, Jordan Bell, etc.) over the years, which only proves how great Curry is. Still, with the Western Conference proving to be as competitive as ever, Dub Nation might want to seek an upgrade in the pivot.
