'Severance' season 3 gets update from Apple TV Plus exec — and it's a bummer

"Severance" season 3 just got an update from an Apple TV Plus executive, and now I'm seriously concerned. "Severance" season 2 just scored the most 2025 Emmy nominations of any show — 27 in total. That should be reason to celebrate, but then Apple TV Plus head of programming Matt Cherniss had to pour cold water on the joy. "I think everyone's just going to take a deep breath and enjoy where we're at," Cherniss told Variety in an interview about the sci-fi show's Emmy successes. "I know they're going as quickly as they can. When you have the success that a show like 'Severance' has, you want to make sure you deliver on every level when the show comes back, and that takes some time. But they're on it, and I think I'm feeling really good about where we're at.' Now, that does seem to end on a positive note, but Cherniss's next comments did little to assuage my concerns. "No one wants it to be another three-year gap," he continued. "I don't believe that we have a production start date yet, but we're moving in that direction." Call me crazy, but those comments seem to indicate that we'll be waiting a long time for more "Severance." To be fair, nobody has been promising a quick turnaround. Back in March, executive producer Ben Stiller told the ITV morning show "This Morning" that "Severance" season 3 is coming "as fast as possible," but not that it'd be here any time soon. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. "I would love to tell you how long you'll have to wait," Stiller told show presenter Ben Shephard, "but the goal is definitely not to wait between, you know, [season] 2 and [season] 3." Apple TV Plus gives you access to amazing originals with exciting new shows dropping all summer long. Based on Cherniss's comments, though, it doesn't sound like that goal is being met. It's worth noting that Cherniss's comments contradict what we've heard from Stiller to date, at least to a degree. In January, Stiller gave an update on season 3, saying that the creative team was working on the new season. A month later, in February, Stiller repeated his insistence that "Severance" was already back in production, just before Apple officially greenlit season 3. But Cherniss just said that the show doesn't even have a production start date yet. So, someone here either isn't right, or there's been some miscommunication. Either way, it seems like season 3 is doomed to repeat the biggest mistake of season 2, and take too long a break between seasons. Then again, season 2 just took home 27 Emmy nominations, so maybe Stiller and Apple TV Plus know what they're doing. Night at the Museum is being reimagined

Night at the Museum is being reimagined with a new cast and tale. 20th Century Studios are making a new movie based on the comedy series, which sees artefacts come alive in the museum, with 21 Laps Entertainment hiring Stuber scribe Tripper Clancy to write the script. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine will produce for 21 Laps, with Emily Morris overseeing the flick, Deadline reports. The first three films were led by Ben Stiller, who starred as Larry Daley, a night guard who discovers the museum exhibits come to life after dark. The first film, Night at the Museum, was released in 2006, and grossed $574.5 million. The late Robin Williams played Theodore Roosevelt, the wax sculpture of the 26th President of the United States dressed in his Rough Rider uniform, who befriends and mentors Larry. The stellar cast also included Owen Wilson, Ricky Gervais, Mickey Rooney, Brad Garrett, Dick Van Dyke and Rami Malek. Stiller returned for 2009's Battle of the Smithsonian and 2014's Secret of the Tomb. An animated sequel, Kahmunrah Rises Again, was released in 2022. The film follows Nick Daley, the son of Larry Daley, as he becomes a night guard at the Museum of Natural History. The voice cast included Joshua Bassett, Jamie Demetriou, Gillian Jacobs and Zachary Levi. Stiller, 59, is fond of the franchise and previously admitted the first film "appealed to the kid in me". He told "What happens when the museum closes at night? What would happen if everything came to life? I thought that the answers would be a really cool movie to see."

Exclusive: Ben Stiller Says People Who Do This on an Airplane Drive Him ‘Crazy'

Perhaps you thought Ben Stiller's biggest airplane pet peeve would be someone saying 'bomb' like his character did in 'Meet the Parents' or maybe a fellow passenger asking him to do his Blue Steel face from 'Zoolander.' But his real airplane pet peeve is something we have all unfortunately experienced at one time or another: someone taking their socks off and going barefoot during the flight. 'I definitely have experienced that a few times, and look, the reality of it is, you just have to shut it out. But yeah, it really drives me crazy.' Despite a barefooted neighbor or two, Stiller is still in awe of the travel experience after seeing the world as an actor, director, and producer. He remembers the landscapes of Iceland when he was on location for the 2013 film 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty' as being particularly incredible. He also recalls traveling to Lagos to scout a film location and just basking in the energy of the Nigerian city. 'It can really take you out of the mindset of when you're in your own world, in terms of giving you perspective on just how many people are living on this planet, living together, and having to interact with each other and make it work. So that always affects me when I go somewhere else, where you see that kind of scope of what's going on.' Scenic mountain road near Seydisfjordur, Iceland, similar to the road Stiller skateboards down in The Secret Life of Walter your go-to drink on an airplane? I will order a diet soda or something on a plane. I remember back in the old days—I grew up in the 70s and 80s—they'd have a bar, like the whole bar, in my parents' generation. What's your travel nightmare? It's really tough, as we all know, when you're traveling in airports because you're at the mercy of these flights changing. My wife [actress Christine Taylor] had a nightmare trying to get back from Hawaii once, where the flight kept on getting canceled, and she was trying to get back to New York. She made friends with this woman from St Louis, and they ended up getting a room together. What's your go-to flight activity? I'll bring a book or a movie, and by 30 minutes into either the book or the movie, I fall asleep. I want to have the security of knowing that I have two books, four movies, three shows that I could watch…and I never watch any of it. Best jet lag tip? The tip that I've heard that works is a cold plunge. Ice-cold plunge when you get somewhere, and I actually like to do that at my house when I come back from traveling. But honestly, with jet lag, the way that I sort of deal with it is I just pretend it doesn't exist. I just try to power through. More recently, he swapped far-flung filming locations for action a little closer to home. This spring, Stiller was a fixture at New York Knicks games at Madison Square Garden. Viewers at home and in the stadium loved seeing the lifelong fan sitting in the front row, passionately cheering his team on, usually right next to a very emphatic Timothée Chalamet and a rotation of other celebrity fans. He admits that when he traveled for away games in Detroit and Indianapolis, he didn't get quite the same fanfare that he got at home. Ben Stiller and Timothee Chalamet react court-side during the Eastern Conference Finals of the 2025 NBA Playoffs between the Indiana Pacers and the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on May 23, 2025. 'It's pretty crazy. I had never really done that before, when you go into the heart of enemy territory. At Madison Square Garden, they are nice enough to give you court seats sometimes, but when I went to Indianapolis, that was not the case,' he told T+L, laughing. 'It was pretty intense. We got booed. But it was really fun, and I would do it again because I love the Knicks, and they had such a great run the last couple of weeks.' And to purchase those seats in 'enemy territory,' he said he likely used his Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card. Stiller has joined Chase in a campaign to help launch their updated Chase Sapphire Reserve card and introduce the Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business card, along with Erin and Sara Foster, David Chang, and Lionel Boyce. The Chase Sapphire Reserve card is already a favorite among frequent travelers, loved for luxe perks like access to over 1,300 airport lounges and annual credits for hotel stays, dining, and entertainment. 'I think at the end of the day, it's an opportunity to really get more bang for your buck, but also, to have experiences that are helpful with traveling,' Stiller said. As the director and producer of Apple TV's hit show Severance, he said he especially loves that the card comes with a complimentary subscription to Apple TV+.

Ben Stiller felt the timing was perfect to return to Meet the Parents

Ben Stiller felt it was the right time to revisit the Meet the Parents franchise. The 59-year-old actor is set to reprise his role as Greg Focker in a fourth installment of the comedy series and explained that it felt appropriate to make another film as he is the same age as co-star Robert De Niro was when the original flick was released in 2000. Speaking at a recent 25th anniversary screening of Meet the Parents, Ben explained: "I think what spurred the idea was that at this point in time, I'm the age that Bob (De Niro) was when we did the first movie. "And there was this sort of mirror to the first film in terms of the fact that my kids are grown. And, yeah, that my kid, one of my kids, is thinking about introducing his person to the family." The Night at the Museum star is excited to return to the franchise for the first time in over 15 years on the fourth film – which is slated for release in November 2026 and will feature Ariana Grande and the returning Owen Wilson, Blythe Danner and Teri Polo in the cast. Stiller said: "It's exciting that we're going to do it again and be together. "And I think life informs everything that's happened in the last 25 years, and it's been a while since we did the last one... So, it's kind of great to look at it as a sort of new thing. But of course, there's all these great memories, and I feel like our connections are still there when we get back together. It's just all baked in there." De Niro states that the script for Meet the Parents 4 is "really good" and recalled how he pushed for the movie to be made when the third film Little Fockers, released in 2010, was in production. The 81-year-old star said: "When we filmed the last one, I was with Ben and John (Hamburg, who co-wrote the three previous movies in the franchise and is set to direct the fourth) in my camper. "And I said, 'Let's start writing one now, to be ready for another one.' And they said, 'Yeah, yeah, sure, sure, sure.' They were humouring me." Meanwhile, Stiller believes that the "connection" that the audience has to the characters will be beneficial for the upcoming flick. He said: "The audience has this history with the characters and they're going to bring that to the film too. So, there's something that's kind of emotional about it, I think, for me, for the actors, to the connection that people have with the movie." The Severance star previously recalled how he was "very nervous" to be working with De Niro on the original film. Stiller said: "Any actor my generation growing up, De Niro is the guy. And I was very nervous the first day. It was good because my character had to be nervous around him, so I didn't have to act that much. But the first moment we had together, he did something. It was the scene where we were meeting at the door and he did something funny, and I just cracked up in his face. "I just laughed. I lost total character and just, it looked so unprofessional. It was awful. I was so nervous, I think but then he laughed and I was like, 'Oh, it's gonna be okay.' "But now, I'm still incredibly intimidated by him 25 years later. He's also the sweetest guy in the world but when he gets mad, it's like you're in Goodfellas or something. It really is. It's great."
