WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita activists say they are planning a peaceful protest for 'No Kings Day.' It is just one of many events across the country on Saturday, coinciding with President Donald Trump's planned military parade in Washington, D.C. It is also President Trump's 79th birthday and Flag Day. Trump on 'No Kings' protests during military parade: 'I don't feel like a king' Defend Democracy ICT says that the protest will take place at the corner of Douglas and Broadway, starting at noon. Guests from local advocacy organizations will speak around 1 p.m. The group has held multiple rallies against the Trump administration's policies. Veterans are divided over the Army's big parade, being held on Trump's birthday The Wichita Police Department tells KSN News that the department 'respects the constitutional right to assemble and express opinions peacefully.' The department stated that the protests will be monitored, with a focus on keeping everyone safe, including those attending, as well as those living and working nearby. Blue-green algae prompts health warnings at several kansas lakes

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNW) — State health and wildlife officials are warning Kansans to be cautious at a number of lakes this summer as blue-green algae blooms continue to pose health risks for both people and animals. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks issued multiple health advisories Friday, urging the public to avoid contact with affected water bodies and to watch for signs of harmful algae. Wichita activists plan peaceful protest on 'No Kings Day' Blue-green algae, also known as harmful algal blooms, can look like foam, paint, or scum on the water and appear in shades of blue, green, brown or red. The toxins they produce can be dangerous if ingested, inhaled, or touched, potentially causing skin rashes, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and other symptoms. 'If the water looks suspicious or smells foul, stay out and keep pets away,' health officials say. Warning Level – Avoid Water Contact: Atchison City Lake #9 (Atchison County) Atchison State Fishing Lake (Atchison County) Frazier Lake (Grant County) Gathering Pond (Geary County) Jeffrey Energy Center Auxiliary Lake (Pottawatomie County) Jeffrey Energy Make-up Lake (Pottawatomie County) Watch Level – Algae May Be Present: Clinton Lake (Douglas County) Lake Parsons (Neosho County) Marion Reservoir (Marion County) Tuttle Creek Lake Zone A (Pottawatomie and Riley Counties) Warnock Lake (Atchison County) Advisory Lifted: Augusta Santa Fe Lake (Butler County) The severity of advisories ranges from Watch, indicating algae may be present, to Warning, meaning algae is confirmed and potentially harmful. In extreme cases, a Hazard status may be issued, recommending full or partial lake closures. Do not swim, wade, or ski near visible algae. Keep pets and livestock away from affected water. Rinse skin or pet fur with clean water after contact. Never drink untreated lake water. Only eat fillets from fish that have been rinsed with clean water. Exposure to blue-green algae can be particularly hazardous for animals. Pets that ingest algae-tainted water or eat dried algae along shorelines can become seriously ill or die. Flooded in Butler County? Here's how to report damage

BUTLER COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — Officials in Butler County and the City of El Dorado are asking residents and businesses impacted by recent flooding to report damages and request help for any unmet needs. Emergency management teams have been conducting on-the-ground assessments in flood-affected areas this week, but say they want to ensure no one is being overlooked—especially those who may need help beyond what insurance can cover. Thousands of I-135 drivers affected with Wichita closure this weekend Unmet needs may include cleaning out flooded basements, removing damaged carpets or drywall, and hauling away debris. Officials say identifying those needs now could help connect affected residents with disaster relief organizations or donors willing to assist. To streamline the process, the county has created two ways for people to report their damages: Online Form: Residents can complete an online form, which includes details and photos of the damage. Access the form here. By Phone: Residents can also call United Way's 2-1-1 line to report damage. Operators are available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Officials say that immediate responses may not be possible, but all reports will be reviewed and used to coordinate possible assistance. Residents are also encouraged to share the information with neighbors who may have been affected. For more Kansas news, click here.
