BJP terms Revanth's BC dharna as ‘political stunt'

Hyderabad: The Telangana BJP on Wednesday termed Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's so-called 'BCs Dharna' in Delhi a political stunt that failed to garner either public support or the backing of Congress' top leadership. Notably, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi gave the event a miss, raising serious questions about the sincerity of the party's commitment to Backward Classes. BJP State Chief Spokesperson and Media In-Charge N.V. Subash questioned the political relevance of the dharna when even the Congress high command chose to stay away. 'Despite the Telangana CM, his deputy, and state Congress president ferrying supporters to Delhi in a special train, it ended up being a damp squib,' he said. According to reports, only a handful of Congress leaders, including Gaurav Gogoi and Digvijay Singh, attended the protest. Subash alleged that the real motive behind the demand for 42% reservation for BCs was to eventually carve out a 10% share for minority Muslims, betraying the trust of the state's BC population. He further slammed the Congress for its historical apathy towards BC welfare, reminding the public of how the Congress sidelined the Mandal Commission report during its regime at the Centre. 'If Revanth Reddy is truly concerned about BC empowerment, why didn't he appoint more BC leaders in his Cabinet or offer the Chief Minister's post to a BC leader?' he questioned. The BJP leader also accused Revanth Reddy of indulging in petty politics by attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BC credentials. 'He has reduced himself to the level of Congress leaders who thrive on lies and misinformation,' Subash said. Reiterating the BJP's commitment to social justice, Subash said that unlike Congress, the BJP has consistently empowered BCs, OBCs, SCs, and STs — both at the Centre and in BJP-ruled states — with several BC leaders elevated to the post of Chief Minister and Union Ministers.

Telangana BJP dismisses Congress protest in Delhi as ‘political stunt'

The Telangana BJP has dismissed the Congress party's dharna over BC quota in New Delhi as a 'political stunt' that failed to attract public support or endorsement of senior Congress leaders, including national president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, along with BJP State president N. Ramchander Rao, chief spokesperson N.V. Subash, and other leaders, issued separate statements questioning the absence of top Congress leadership, and calling the 'much-publicised' protest a 'damp squib'. The BJP accused the ruling party of betraying BCs by allocating 10% of the promised 42% quota to Muslims, alleging it was a move driven by 'appeasement politics'. The leaders also criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling them 'petty politics'. They questioned why the CM had not given greater representation to BCs in his Cabinet or offered the CM post to a BC leader. Mr. Kishan Reddy asserted that it was the Congress party's responsibility to fulfill its promise of providing quota to BCs, and warned that shifting the blame to BJP would not be tolerated. Mr. Sanjay Kumar alleged that the protest was aimed at securing quota for Muslims rather than BCs. Mr. Ramchander Rao accused the Congress of insincerity in implementing the BC quota and said that the party was making baseless allegations against the Modi government to deflect attention from its own failures. He added that BJP is willing to cooperate with Congress if it commits to granting the full 42% quota to BCs only. Mr. Subash described the protest in the national capital as a 'poorly-executed political gimmick'.

Teachers embrace fun newspaper lessons

Pasir Gudang teachers taking part in the Star-NiE workshop at SMK Taman Daya 2 in Johor Baru. — Courtesy photos OVER 100 teachers immersed themselves in fresh and engaging English language activities during The Star's Newspaper-in-Education (Star-NiE) workshop. One of the participants, SMK Seri Kota Puteri teacher Siti Nadia Saff'ai Hanan, said she had never used newspapers in the classroom. 'It was our first time being exposed to activities like a newspaper scavenger hunt and even making songs from articles. 'We never knew such creative teaching methods existed. 'It really opened our eyes to how fun and flexible English lessons can be,' she said. Inspired by the workshop, Siti Nadia said she wasted no time in putting into action the ideas she had learnt. On that very day, she went on to conduct the same session with all six English language teachers at her school in Masai. 'I decided to share what I had learned from the session with English teachers from my school as I believe it will also help them make learning the language fun,' she said. Siti Nadia has shared what she learnt at the workshop with her fellow teachers. B. Subash, from SJK (T) Ladang Mount Austin, Johor Baru, expressed hope for similar sessions to be made available to all English language teachers. 'I've always heard about the NiE workshop, and we have been requesting for it since last year after having getting positive feedback from teachers in other districts. 'True enough, the workshop activities captured everyone's attention and got both senior and new teachers on our feet. 'The only drawback was the limited time of the workshop, as we only managed to try out two activities together,' said Subash, who has been a teacher for 20 years. Pasir Gudang School Improvement Specialist Coach Plus officer Nurulha Abd Rahman, who invited The Star to conduct the workshop, said the training was especially relevant for new teachers working with students struggling in English. Subash hopes all English language teachers can benefit from Star-NiE. 'With 21 years of teaching experience, I have seen how difficult it can be for students with Tahap Penguasaan 1 or mastery level 1 (TP1) and TP2 for English, especially those who cannot read or write in the language. 'NiE is practical and engaging as it offers real-world content that makes learning meaningful. 'It is helpful especially for teachers who need a different approach,' she said. Held at Dewan Imtiyaz in SMK Taman Daya 2, Johor Baru, the workshop was organised in collaboration with Pasir Gudang District Education Office (PPD). The morning session was attended by 37 secondary school teachers while 75 primary school teachers joined the afternoon session. Nurulha: Teachers are eager to put what they have learnt into practice. Nurulha also noted the importance of incorporating newspaper-based English teaching, especially with the growing number of new teachers in the district. 'The hands-on activities introduced by Star-NiE trainer Shoba Rani Dev created a fun and interactive environment. 'Even the teachers were as excited as children. They are eager to try out what they have learnt with their students,' Nurulha added.

BJP slams Revanth govt over Cabinet ‘Talk Show'

Hyderabad: The Telangana BJP on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led state government, accusing Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of reducing cabinet meetings to mere platforms for discussion and debate, without any concrete outcomes or implementation of critical public welfare initiatives. BJP Telangana Chief Spokesperson and Media in-charge N V Subash ridiculed the functioning of the Revanth Reddy-led cabinet, calling it 'governance in name only' and 'a cruel joke being played on the people of Telangana.' 'Cabinet meetings under this government have become mere headline management exercises, devoid of any seriousness or intent to govern,' said Subash. 'The state is in the throes of an economic crisis, welfare schemes are in limbo, and development has come to a grinding halt. All we see are meetings and more meetings, but no meaningful action.' Subash alleged that while the Congress government continues to make theatrical announcements, it has failed to implement its own electoral guarantees. 'Forget new promises — the government is not even able to release pensions pending for four months or scholarships due to students. This is not just inefficiency; this is inhuman governance,' he said. He noted that the cabinet's inaction on conducting long-overdue local body elections was particularly disturbing, given that central funds earmarked for rural and urban development are lying unused due to lack of elected representatives in local bodies. 'The Centre has provided the necessary financial assistance, but it is the state government that is sleeping on it, denying people their right to basic civic amenities,' he added. He said that even the court has expressed its anguish in this regard. While expressing support for the cabinet's decision to submit previous BRS government decisions to the Justice P.C. Ghose Commission — which is probing irregularities in the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project — Subash questioned why similar urgency is lacking when it comes to alleviating the day-to-day struggles of citizens. 'The government is happy to dig into the past and engage in blame games, but when it comes to current responsibilities, there is radio silence,' he said. 'What stops them from announcing a schedule for local body elections? Why are pensioners and students being made to suffer?' The BJP leader said the Congress government's inability to even finalize a timeline for implementing poll promises — such as financial support to women, farmers, and the unemployed — shows that the administration has no fiscal plan and no political will. 'Revanth Reddy came to power with tall promises and emotional appeals. Today, even his most loyal voters are disillusioned,' he said. Subash reiterated BJP's demand for immediate release of pending pensions and scholarships and a fixed roadmap for the implementation of all electoral guarantees made by the Congress party. He also demanded that the Election Commission be allowed to conduct local body elections without further delay. 'This government is wasting time and public money. If the Congress is incapable of governing, it should admit so instead of hiding behind cabinet theatrics,' he said.
