Sharjah Ruler establishes Sharjah Hospitality Group
His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued an Emiri Decree regarding the establishment of the Sharjah Hospitality Group. According to the Decree, a government institution named 'Sharjah Hospitality Group' shall be established in the Emirate. The Group shall be an independent government entity affiliated with the Sharjah Family and Community Council. It shall enjoy legal personality and the legal capacity necessary to achieve its objectives and exercise its competencies. The institution shall be officially known in English as 'Sharjah Hospitality Group.' Its headquarters shall be located in the city of Sharjah, with the possibility—by decision of the Chairperson—of establishing branches or offices in other cities and regions of the Emirate. In accordance with the Decree, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi shall preside over the institution. The Chairperson shall issue decisions to appoint those deemed suitable to assist in managing the Group and overseeing its affiliated entities. The Decree stipulates that the Chairperson shall have the authority to establish, merge, or dissolve any entity affiliated with the Group. The Chairperson may also form or dissolve any committees or councils associated with the Group. Additionally, the Chairperson shall approve the budgets of the Group and its affiliated entities and may delegate any of their powers or responsibilities to senior staff within the Group, in accordance with applicable legislation. The Chairperson is also authorised to establish, introduce, or amend administrative positions and organisational structures of the Group and its affiliated entities. The Group shall undertake the responsibility of developing public policies for hospitality services with the aim of growing and advancing the Group. It shall also set strategic plans and standards for the Group's activities and those of its affiliated entities. The Group is further tasked with issuing internal regulations and systems governing the work of the Group and its entities. It shall oversee the management and operation of its facilities and establishments in line with the best professional practices and both local and international standards. In addition, the Group will implement programmes, initiatives, and projects related to hospitality and wellbeing. It shall organise contracting procedures and enhance partnerships with public and private sector entities both within and outside the Emirate. The Group will monitor performance levels and ensure the quality of services provided through periodic evaluation tools and by implementing mechanisms for oversight and continuous improvement. It will also train and develop specialised human resources in the field of hospitality, enhancing their skills in coordination with the competent authorities. Lastly, the Group shall undertake any other competencies assigned by the Chairperson. According to the Decree, the Group shall supervise and operate under its umbrella the Sharjah Ladies Club and its branches, as well as Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre. It may also include any other projects, establishments, or entities related to hospitality, wellbeing, or hospitality services that are added to the Group by a decision from the Chairperson. The financial resources of the Group shall consist of government allocations, revenues generated from the activities of affiliated entities, and income derived from the investment of the Group's funds. Additional sources may include sponsorships and partnerships, as well as any other resources approved by the Chairperson that align with the objectives and activities of the Group. All funds shall be deposited in banks approved by the Chairperson and may not be used for any purpose other than those for which they are allocated, in accordance with the provisions of this Decree and applicable legislation, or with the prior approval of the Chairperson.

Sheikh Sultan directs implementation of Al Shanoof power transmission station
In implementation of the directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA) is continuing the execution of the Al Shanoof Power Transmission Station project, with a cost of Dhs190 million. The station is the largest in Al Mehathab district and will serve 20,000 residential units. This was announced by Engineer Abdullah Al Kous, Deputy Director of the Power Transmission Department at SEWA, during the "Direct Line" programme aired on Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, hosted by media man Mohammed Al Rayaissi. Engineer Al Kous stated that the station project is being implemented in collaboration with Siemens, utilising the latest technologies. Upon its completion in the third quarter of 2026, the station will significantly enhance electricity services across the emirate.

Sheikh Sultan directs to build 1,365 housing units in Sharjah's Mehathab area
His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has ordered the construction of three residential complexes in the Mehathab Suburb. These will comprise a total of 1,365 homes; 362 in Residential Qutainah (1), 428 in Residential Qutainah (3) and 575 in Al Shanoof Residential Complex. This announcement was made by Engineer Salem Al Abdouli, Director of the Sharjah Housing Department, through the 'Direct Line' programme, which is broadcast in Sharjah. He said that the houses feature a blend of local, Islamic and modern architectural styles, and are equipped with a fire detection system to enhance quality of life. Each 3,300-square-foot residence has a guest room, a sitting room, a kitchen, and four bedrooms on the ground floor. The housing units will be delivered with full infrastructure services. Concurrently, the department has initiated the delivery of residential units within Al Qutainah Residential Complex 1, representing the inaugural project to be realised in the Mehathab Suburb. The infrastructure for the three complexes is currently being completed. On the other hand, Dr Sheikh Sultan responded to a caller named Abeer on the programme and instructed the Sharjah Police to address the issue of her brother Obeid, who is mentally ill and causing problems at home. Media personality Mohammed Al Suwaidi then informed the caller that there is a designated facility for cases like her brother's, which will be ready within a month.

‘We Are Inclusion' congress to convene in Sharjah
The 18th Inclusion International World Congress 2025, themed 'We are Inclusion,' to address international legal frameworks for people with intellectual disabilities will be held for the first time in the region from Sept.15 - 17, 2025 at Sharjah Expo Centre. The 3-day conference will bring together a host of experts and specialists in disability affairs, alongside representatives from civil society organisations, international human rights and development entities, legislators, and decision-makers from around the world. This collective effort aims to review existing legislation and assess its alignment with the rapidly evolving social and technological landscape. The congress held under the patronage of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, is organised in collaboration between Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) and 'Inclusion International,' with media and logistical partnership with the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), as well as support from a broad network of strategic local partners. Registration is now available through the official website The congress aims to strengthen legal frameworks and modernise legislative concepts through a holistic approach aligned with sustainable development policies, while respecting diverse cultural and social contexts. It also seeks to equip policymakers with contemporary approaches that move beyond humanitarian concerns towards a comprehensive developmental vision, ensuring the full and active participation of persons with intellectual disabilities in all aspects of life. Most notably, the congress will address the UN's Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, as well as the UAE's federal law No. 29 of 2006, which protects the rights of people of determination. The event will also highlight a number of UN recommendations and human rights principles that serve as essential references for shaping inclusive development policies. This forms part of an expanded programme tackling critical topics affecting persons with disabilities, such as inclusive education, family support, labour market access, legal empowerment, healthcare, community planning, self-advocacy expansion, and capacity building for field organisations. This broad scope emphasises the congress's comprehensive approach and reinforces its powerful legal and humanitarian message. Held once every four years, 'We Are Inclusion' World Congress is organised by 'Inclusion International.' Sheikh Sultan, 'the man who brings cultures together'
The Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre (DSQC) has revisited a significant milestone in the academic journey of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who was awarded an honorary doctorate by Portugal's University of Coimbra in October 2018. The recognition came in appreciation of Sheikh Sultan's lifelong contributions to history, literature, and cultural research. His extensive research has shed light on major historical facts and the development of human societies. The university described His Highness as 'the man who brings cultures together.' Established in 1290, the University of Coimbra is the oldest university in Portugal and among the oldest in Europe. It is a leading academic and research institution and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2013. The honorary doctorate is its highest distinction, conferred on individuals who have achieved outstanding accomplishments in cultural, literary, or scientific fields. Throughout its history, the university has bestowed this honour upon just 190 distinguished figures from Portugal and around the world, including current Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres and the former President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker. During the award ceremony, His Highness commended the university's leadership for promoting cultural exchange and strengthening ties between nations.
