55th Watch and Jewellery ME Show concludes with 87000 visitors
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and with the support of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the five-day exhibition attracted more than 87,000 visitors, marking 9 percent increase compared to the previous edition. This reinforces the exhibition's status as one of the largest and most significant gold and jewellery trade exhibitions in the UAE and the region. The 55th Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show featured the participation of over 500 local and international exhibitors, representing high-end brands in gold, diamonds, and luxury watches, in addition to 1,800 high-profile designers, manufacturers, and industry professionals. Occupying an expansive 30,000 square metres, the exhibition marked the debut participation of several international participants from Russia, Mexico, Tanzania, and Egypt. It also saw the presence of an elite group of leading jewellery and watchmakers from both local and global markets. Key exhibiting countries include the UAE, India, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, Singapore, China, Japan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Lebanon. The 55th edition presented a set of exclusive jewellery pieces and culturally inspired international designs officially recognised by Guinness World Records. Key highlights included the unveiling of the world's longest diamond necklace. The masterpiece spans 108 meters and is adorned with more than 600 lab-grown diamonds, meticulously crafted in 18-karat rose gold. The exhibition also unveiled the 'Union Frame,' which has entered the Guinness World Records as the world's largest gold frame. Another standout attraction was a fully gold-plated car introduced by Al Romaizan Gold and Jewellery. Nicknamed 'Gold-Zilla' for its looks and powerful performance, the extraordinarily rare piece is valued at nearly 3.67 million dirhams, offering a unique blend of mechanical power and dynamic artistic innovation. The 55th Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show witnessed a distinguished presence by the Italian pavilion that unveiled rare collections of handcrafted diamond and jewellery pieces. The pavilion featured around 50 brands, a 15 percent growth over the previous edition, making Italy the largest international participant in the show. Designed by some of Italy's most celebrated designers, the collections were custom-designed and produced exclusively for the exhibition, with each piece offered in highly limited editions, typically no more than two per design, drawing wide attention from global luxury jewellery connoisseurs. Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah, stated that the Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show has successfully reinforced its status as a leading global platform bringing together top designers and renowned international brands under one roof. This was evident in the record participation of over 500 exhibitors and 1,800 designers from around the world, along with more than 87,000 visitors. He noted that this exceptional turnout reflects growing confidence in the exhibition and its vital role in supporting and advancing the gold and jewellery sector. He affirmed Expo Sharjah's commitment to further enhancing the exhibition, expanding collaboration with partners, and driving innovation in an industry that undergoes significant transformation and offers substantial global opportunities This edition of the exhibition featured outstanding participation from 20 young Emirati female designers, who presented their latest innovative collections of gold and diamond jewellery with a global flair. Their unique designs drew inspiration from the local environment and cultural heritage, incorporating traditional crafts such as Al-Talli into contemporary creations. Among the standout pieces were 'Zayed's Lantern,' the 'Palm Necklace,' the 'Well' design, and the 'Emirati Dama'a,' along with a variety of finely crafted jewellery pieces made with gemstones, natural pearls, and gold, all showcasing exceptional skill and artistry. The exhibition is set to announce today, Monday, the winners of prestigious prizes allocated for its visitors, including a Tesla Model 3 and luxury gold and diamond sets. The 55th edition presented rare and exclusive collections of high-end jewellery, exceptional diamonds, and premium timepieces, all offered at competitive prices and with special discounts. It also recorded robust sales, reflecting strong consumer demand and the exhibition's continued role as a key marketplace for luxury gold and jewellery acquisitions.

4 new mosques open in Sharjah, accommodating 4,000 worshippers
The Sharjah Department of Islamic Affairs has opened four new mosques in Sharjah City, including three in Al Seyouh suburb and one in Al Rahmaniyah suburb. The mosques can accommodate approximately 4,000 male and female worshippers. This comes in line with the vision and aspirations of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to enable citizens and residents to perform their religious rituals with ease and peace of mind. The four mosques, which were built with funding from philanthropists, feature diverse architectural styles that blend all Islamic and modern architectural arts. They were opened as part of the department's plan for the current year to meet community needs and provide an integrated spiritual environment for worshippers, contributing to strengthening the social fabric and consolidating Islamic values. Al Ghaith Mosque was built in Al Mowrrada 8 of Al Seyouh suburb, covering a total area of 11,312 square metres. It includes a prayer hall and its service facilities and accommodates 700 worshippers including 130 women. The opening ceremony was attended by Abdullah Khalifa Yaroof Al Sabousi, Chairman of Department of Islamic Affairs, who was accompanied by the philanthropist who financed the mosque, as well as a number of department officials and residents of the suburb. They performed the noon prayer and listened to a sermon on the virtues of building and caring for mosques in the Emirate of Sharjah. The department also opened the 'Companion Anis Bin Qatada' Mosque in Al-Mowrrada 8 of Al Seyouh suburb, on a total land area of 3,532 square metres. The mosque includes a prayer hall and its service facilities and can accommodate 700 worshippers including 140 women. The 'Companion Rafe'a Bin Malik' Mosque was built in the Al Mowrrada 4 of Al Seyouh suburb, covering a total area of 3,605 square metres. The mosque, which includes a prayer hall and its service facilities, can accommodate 600 worshippers including 82 women. In Shaghrafa 2 of Al Rahmaniya suburb, the department inaugurated the 'Bab Al Rayyan' Mosque. It was built on a total area of 11,940 square metres and includes a prayer hall and its service facilities. The mosque can accommodate 2,000 worshippers including 110 women.

Sharjah enters a new judicial era as the Judicial Authority Law comes into effect
The emirate of Sharjah has officially begun implementing Law No. (7) of 2025 concerning the regulation of judicial authority, following its issuance by His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. This law represents an important milestone in enhancing judicial independence, ensuring fair litigation, and upholding the principles of justice across the emirate. The legislation affirms that access to justice is a guaranteed right for all, and explicitly prohibits any form of interference with judicial proceedings. It makes sure that all individuals are equal before the law, and that every person is entitled to impartial legal proceedings without discrimination. The law maintains the right to defense at all stages of investigation and trial and preserves the full independence of judges, stating that they are only bound by the Constitution. This emphasises how the honour, integrity, and impartiality of judicial officers are fundamental to protecting rights and freedoms. Senior judicial officials in Sharjah stressed that the newly enacted Judicial Authority Law represents a historic moment in the emirate's legal system. The law, which reflects the vision of Sheikh Sultan, aims to establish a comprehensive and integrated legal framework built on principles of justice, transparency, and institutional efficiency. It strengthens the foundations of judicial governance by clearly defining institutional structures, simplifying legal processes, and adopting advanced technologies that are in line with international standards. With roles and responsibilities specified, the law consolidates the judiciary's independence and enhances the coordination between the Judicial Council, Judicial Department, Public Prosecution, and courts. These changes were made to further improve institutional performance, speed up the resolution of cases, and increase public trust in the legal system. Judge Dr Muhammad Obaid Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Sharjah Judicial Department, reiterated the department's commitment to developing the legal system and maintaining the rule of law, while complying with the directives of Sharjah's ruler. He noted that the Judicial Authority Law plays a major role in establishing a unified judicial system that reassures high levels of legal competence. Al Kaabi pointed out that as part of its implementation plan, the department has started updating internal procedures, upgrading digital infrastructure, and investing in the training of judicial staff to meet the demands of the next phase of development. He also highlighted that the law's provisions on transparent appointments, promotions, and inspections are vital to earning public confidence in the judiciary. Dr. Mansour Mohammed Bin Nassar, Chairman of the Sharjah Government Legal Department, described the new law as 'the result of the ongoing legislative efforts to create a legal framework that organises the emirate's judicial work and aligns with evolving legal developments.' He added that the law incorporates international best practices in judicial governance while taking into account the distinctive characteristics of the UAE's legal system. 'The law supports the modernisation of Sharjah's judiciary, with a focus on introducing digital tools and simplifying case management and legal procedures to create a more effective judicial system,' Nassar said. Sheikh Faisal bin Ali bin Abdullah Al Mualla, Secretary-General of Sharjah Court, said that the law reflects the emirate's determination to build a strong, yet future-ready legal framework. Al Mualla stated that the law not only illustrates the emirate's dedication to judicial excellence, but also encourages institutional collaboration and enhances the overall coherence of the legal system. According to Judge Ahmed Abdulla Al Mulla, Chairman of the Court of Cassation, the law restructures court hierarchies and jurisdictional roles, which reinforces the Court of Cassation's status as the highest judicial authority responsible for setting common legal principles and ensuring consistency in rulings. He explained that under the new legal framework, the court will continue to safeguard rights and adhere to the rule of law through its role in reviewing the interpretation and application of legislation. Counselor Anwar Amin Al Harmoudi, Attorney General and Chairman of the Public Prosecution, said that the enactment of the Judicial Authority Law can expand the public prosecution's function within the emirate's judicial system. He clarified that the law enforces the prosecution's role as a core component in protecting individual and societal rights along with achieving judicial fairness. Al Harmoudi remarked that the legislation provides a clear structure for the Public Prosecution, outlining its jurisdiction and powers. Under this law, the Public Prosecution is authorised to file and pursue criminal cases in court, appeal verdicts, and lead investigations. It may also delegate judicial officers, who carry out their duties under its direction and supervision. The Judicial Authority Law in Sharjah consists of 89 articles across nine chapters, covering areas such as courts, the Public Prosecution, Judicial Department, judicial personnel, Judicial Inspection Department, judge qualifications, and administrative competencies. It sets out the regulations for a progressive judicial system that conforms to Sharjah's development goals and serves the needs of its people.

Sultan approves 400 new govt positions to be filled after Eid Al Adha
His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has instructed the people concerned to approve 400 new positions in government entities in the emirate. These positions will be filled after Eid Al Adha, with priority given to university graduates who have previously been qualified and trained in government human resources programmes. Sheikh Sultan also approved a plan to implement the Sharjah Job Seekers Training and Qualification Programme, which runs from July 1 to December 31, 2025, with a total budget of Dhs55.8 million, with a view to enhancing employment opportunities and supporting national competencies. This came during a telephone conversation conducted by Abdullah Ibrahim Al Zaabi, Chairman of Sharjah Department of Human Resources, via the 'Direct Line' programme broadcast on Sharjah Broadcasting Authority.

ALA, UNESCO highlight role of historical dictionaries
The Arabic Language Academy (ALA) in Sharjah, in collaboration with UNESCO, held a specialised symposium to highlight the importance of historical linguistic dictionaries. The event coincided with the honouring of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for completing the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language, now officially included in the UNESCO Library. The symposium also marked the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. The symposium explored the significance of historical dictionaries across languages, including Arabic, French, Italian, Spanish, and German. It brought together distinguished scholars from leading linguistic and academic institutions across Europe and the Arab world. Speakers included Dr Amhamed Safi Mosteghanemi (Sharjah Arabic Language Academy), Dr Paolo Dacicelli (La Crusca, Rome), Dr Sebastian Geuther (University of Göttingen, Germany), Dr Charlotte Curie (University of Lyon III, France), and Dr Laura Gago Gómez (University of Salamanca, Spain). Dr Wael Farouk, Director of the Institute of Arab Culture at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, moderated the symposium. Ali Al Haj Al Ali, Permanent Representative of the UAE to UNESCO, opened the event with a speech on behalf of the Arab Group. He praised Sheikh Sultan for his tireless efforts in supporting the Arabic language and emphasised the cultural and academic value of the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language. Al Ali described the dictionary's inclusion in the UNESCO Library as more than a scholarly achievement — it is a celebration of centuries of Arabic intellectual heritage. He called the dictionary a 'timeless scientific treasure' and underscored the Arab Group's commitment to transforming Arabic into a tool for innovation and future development. Dr Amhamed Safi Al Mostghanemi provided a detailed overview of the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language, its inception, and the massive collaborative effort involved. He emphasised its comprehensive documentation of word usage, historical evolution, and cultural significance — making it the largest and most modern Arabic linguistic reference of its kind. Dr Dacicelli discussed Italy's historical dictionaries, the evolving content, and their role in preserving linguistic history. He highlighted how such works provide insight into word origins and their transformations over time. Dr Geuther reviewed Germany's over 30 historical dictionaries, including the renowned Grimm Brothers' dictionary. He discussed their role in chronicling the German language's classical roots and regional dialects. WAM
