National Drug Take Back Day taking place this weekend
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — This Saturday, officials with the Drug Enforcement Administration and local law enforcement agencies will be hosting National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
National Drug Take Back Day is an opportunity to safely and conveniently dispose of unneeded prescription drugs.
'National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a great opportunity to clean out your medicine cabinets and remove the temptation for experimentation or misuse,' DEA Omaha Division Acting Diversion Program Manager Summer Schwab said. 'We encourage you to make Take Back Day a family event. Use this time to talk with your children about the risks of prescription drug misuse and lead by example by bringing your expired or unused medications to a Take Back Day site.'
Drugs that can be dropped off at Take Back centers include tablets, capsules, patches, and any other prescription drugs. Liquid medicines must be tightly sealed in their original containers, and any sort of vaping devices or cartridges will be accepted if the lithium batteries are removed. Syringers, sharps, and illicit substances will not be collected.
