The Rock WWE Return: Veteran writer says 'The Final Boss' should be at SummerSlam — But only on one condition

The Rock WWE return: The Rock has not been seen on WWE programming since Elimination Chamber 2025 in March where he joined forces with John Cena to destroy Cody Rhodes. With SummerSlam 2025 around the corner, fans are eager to know if 'The Final Boss' will make his presence felt at the Premium Live Event. In an exclusive interaction with Indiatimes, a veteran writer weighed in on the possibility. Vince Russo has THIS to say about The Rock appearing at SummerSlam Vince Russo is a popular name in the pro-wrestling business. The writer, who rose to fame in the 1990s, has worked with promotions like WCW and WWE. Speaking on Indiatimes. He weighed in on the possibility of The Rock appearing at 'The Biggest Party of the Summer'. He said that it can't be ruled out but added that the Stamford-based promotion should advertise it in advance to create a hype. 'Anything is possible. If it were me though, I wouldn't have him there unless I PROMOTED IT!!!,' said Russo. Storyline-wise, it would make sense for The Rock to appear at SummerSlam. John Cena is set to defend the Undisputed Championship against Cody Rhodes at the event this August. This is a rematch of their poorly received encounter at WrestleMania 41. The first match saw Cena win the title after nailing 'QB1' with a low blow and the championship belt. Hypothetically, The Rock could help 'The Franchise Player' retain the gold. There is also a possibility of him aligning with Cody instead and helping him win. This will also pave the way for the eagerly-awaited John Cena face turn. That said, this is purely speculative as nothing has been announced yet. Here's why fans were disappointed with The Rock after WrestleMania 41 The Rock was an integral part of John Cena's heel turn, a moment that redefined the tenets of the industry. Fans expected him to complete the arc by coming to a heel Cena's aid at WrestleMania 41. This, however, did not happen. Instead, rapper Travis Scott interfered in the match These developments did no go down well with expers and fans alike. Russo even called the finish 'horrible' and added that Scott's involvement only made things worse. It remains to be seen wether The Rock appears at SummerSlam 2025 and makes up for his absence.

CM Punk, Rhea Ripley keep it Unreal: WWE stars on Netflix docuseries, Cena and more

When you look at CM Punk and Rhea Ripley, it is easy to figure out why they're two of the most beloved superstars in WWE right now. The journey does seem a lot different, yet similar in many ways for both stars within the company. Both are big-money draws, fan favourites, the best in the world when it comes to working in the ring, and their characters just seem to connect with the audience on both superstars are heading to SummerSlam 2025 as No.1 contenders—with Punk taking on Gunther for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship while Ripley takes on champion Naomi and Iyo Sky for the Women's World Heavyweight what happens outside the ring when Punk becomes Phil Brooks and Ripley is Demi Bennett? Well, both of them are affectionate dog parents—that's something everyone would love seeing. But apart from that, the fans would be eager to know how both superstars are like outside the ring. And WWE's new docuseries with Netflix, WWE: Unreal, kind of gives us a sneak peek into it. From a look at your favourite superstars to seeing how each match is produced, it is a proper breaking of kayfabe if you're a WWE fan and the five-part docuseries will be available from July 29. View this post on Instagram A post shared by NetflixSports (@netflixsports) Well, that was something CM Punk wasn't quite ready for, as he and Ripley had an exclusive chat with India Today regarding the documentary—and a little bit about wrestling as well."I still don't know how comfortable I am with all of it. Even just sitting here talking with you, saying the word kayfabe makes my skin kind of crawl. But it's a brave new world. I think once you break through all of that, what the Unreal documentary series is going to do is, it's gonna humanise us a little bit more," said there's good reason as well. Wrestling for a long time has been all about the character and gimmicks the superstars play and not breaking kayfabe. But for Punk, he feels this is a chance for the younger generation to see the human side of the wrestlers and draw inspiration to deal with some of the issues like anxiety."They see CM Punk when they turn on Netflix and watch Monday Night Raw. I think backstage, you're gonna see a little bit more Phil. And I don't know how I feel about that, to be completely honest with you. I think there's definitely a big part of me that still wants to keep a lot of this protected and private and in a way just for us, but I recognise, in a lot of ways, the importance for people to see what we go through."advertisement"I know we talk a lot about like anxiety issues, and I just think of, you know, like maybe a little girl who has it pretty tough, and then sees Rhea and sees how Rhea is reacting in real time to how she deals with her anxiety and stuff like that. And I think that can give, a number of little girls, a way out of whatever they're dealing with. And to me, that's more important than me trying to protect the business," said Netflix experienceThe deal with Netflix has certainly changed the fan experience when it comes to WWE. The feel is getting bigger and better, leading to the global wrestling juggernaut bringing in more viewers. But what has been the experience for the Superstars?Ripley feels it has been wild since WWE started their partnership with Netflix and feels it has been beneficial for everyone involved. She says it's good to have new eyes come in."It's been wild. I feel like the publicity that WWE has gotten just from partnering with Netflix has been so beneficial for not only the company but all of us. To see the amount of people that have started watching WWE just because we are on Netflix. It's obviously easier, it's right there, a lot of people just go, I don't know, I've never checked it out, so they just click on it, they watch it. It's just like welcoming new people in and it is just awesome to me. I love when new eyes start watching the product and you hear the excitement that they get by watching it first off, and I love this partnership," said Punk, he feels that Netflix has made them more accessible worldwide than how it was with cable and network television over the past few decades."Yeah, I think WWE wrestling has been on cable and network television for 30–40 years. So you, as a superstar, almost take it for granted. Like this is as big as it's gonna get, and then Netflix comes around and you realise like, oh, this is getting so much bigger and now it's like so much more global and areas that couldn't access us before."advertisement"I think India might be a pretty big market. Everybody's got Netflix on their phones, so I feel like we are now even somehow more accessible, and more available to people worldwide, and that's very exciting," said CenaverseAfter the talk about the documentary and Netflix was done, it was time to get into some of the wrestling action and rivalries for both superstars. When it comes to Punk, probably his biggest rivalry was with the legendary John Cena. From the infamous pipebomb promo to Punk's win at Money In The Bank in 2011, Cena has been a vital presence in the Second City Saint's career over the men ran it back once again at Night Of Champions 2025, where Cena got the win, and Triple H confirmed after the event that the rivalry was done. Punk commented on his iconic rivalry and confirmed that it was indeed the last time he would face Cena inside a WWE ring, with the 17-time World Champion heading for retirement at the end of the year. View this post on Instagram A post shared by WWE (@wwe)advertisementPunk said he had pulled up Cena and told him that he wanted to be a part of the Cenation leader's retirement tour and was willing to do whatever was necessary."Night Of Champions was a really important night for me personally and professionally and emotionally. Yeah, that's it (on Cena rivalry). John to me has written his own ticket. John can do whatever he wants. I told him, I think it was a year ago, I saw him for the first time in a while, and he announced in Toronto he was gonna retire and he was gonna do X amount of dates."And I immediately I grabbed him and I said, 'hey I don't know if I figure into your plans, whatever you want to do, but man, I'm your Huckleberry. To me, selfishly, I wanna be a part of it. So, you want me on commentary for one of your matches, you want me to be a referee, I'll drive you to the shows, buddy, like, whatever it takes to get me to be a small part of your story because he was such a big part of mine. And yeah, that was it," said former WWE Champion finds his rivalry with Cena more like a romantic novel."Like, there's something romantic and poetic about it, the John Cena and CM Punk rivalry. There's a beginning, there's a middle, and now there's an end, and that's life," said for Ripley, she is kind of like a young CM Punk in the women's division currently. For her, she has had some big rivalries as well—with the current one with Iyo Sky capturing the imagination of the fans. They delivered a clinic at the main event of WWE Evolution 2, and the question was simple:Is Iyo Sky the John Cena to Ripley's CM Punk? View this post on Instagram A post shared by WWE (@wwe)The former World Champion said she has had a few "Cenas" along the way in her career, name-dropping Bianca Belair as one, but said that Iyo does fill that spot. Ripley said that in terms of story and connection, she can see shades of the famous Cena–Punk rivalry in hers with Iyo."I never thought of it like that. It's hard because I feel like I have a couple John Cenas in my career. I feel like Bianca Belair is a John Cena as well, but I mean Iyo Sky fills that spot, for sure. She's someone that, I've gone through a lot with in this business, and every step of the way, she's had my number, she's been able to pin me every single time or win somehow. And I think that is the only way that I say she's not John Cena, because, I would have beat her by now if I was CM Punk. But, like story-wise and connection-wise, I would say she would be on that same level," said AJ Lee return? One question that has continued to follow Punk since his WWE return has been if his real-life wife and former WWE Divas Champion, AJ Lee, will follow in his footsteps. There were rumours and suggestions that Evolution 2 would be the stage for her return, but Lee just didn't followed the same trend as everyone else and asked if we would ever see Lee return to a WWE ring. Punk said that while he doesn't make that call for his wife, selfishly, he would love to see her come back to WWE—but only if she is interested in it."I don't know (laughs). I love my wife. She's my best friend. It's not 100 percent up to me. So I always say this, selfishly, if it was up to me, if I made the decisions for her, and trust me, I do not. I would love to see it. But also, if this isn't something she's interested in, if it doesn't serve her anymore, more power to her.""She's very busy. She's very brilliant. She's doing a great many things. It's not even like a ball's in her court sort of thing. It's just like, I was gone from WWE for 10 years, and it wasn't for the lack of trying to get me back."Punk feels that time will be an important factor if Lee returns and pointed to his own comeback to the company as an example."It's just stuff didn't line up, like I was busy doing other stuff, and the timing wasn't right. I think timing is probably a really important factor in the decision, not saying there's anything even going on. I am just talking in circles now. Huge AJ Lee fan, would love to see her back, but also, love and respect everything she's already done, like she's got a Hall of Fame career already," said Ripley is surely eager to have Lee back in WWE. The Nightmare said she would love to face her—but more than that, just be present when the return does happen to hear the reaction from the crowd."Yeah, if she were to come back, I would love to face her. I think stepping in the ring with AJ would just be incredible. I honestly just want to be in the ring to hear the reaction.""To hear the reaction from the fans and everyone in attendance as she does her entrance. It's something so special and like it doesn't even have to be a full match, I just want to be a part of whatever she's a part of. I want to be there on the day that she comes back. If that ever happens, I think it'd be awesome, I'd be down," said just like that, we saw a bit of Phil Brooks and Demi Bennett—even when discussing their wrestling careers. While kayfabe might be a thing sacred in the business, Punk and Ripley decided to keep it real, rather Unreal.- Ends

WWE RAW Results & Highlights (7/21/25): Latin World Order wins, Judgment Day retains Tag Team title, Roman Reigns faces Paul Heyman, and more

RAW (Image via WWE) The wrestling world of WWE is moving swiftly towards its upcoming premium live event, SummerSlam 2025, which is now less than two weeks away. After the latest Saturday Night Main Event and Evolution 2, this is the second episode of RAW , and most of the action surrounding it is related directly to the upcoming PPV. Quite a few wrestlers from the RAW division made their presence known in tonight's episode, which saw the show begin with the Judgment Day getting to the venue where AJ Styles is working as the valet. He exchanges a few words with Dominik Mysterio before it finally begins. After making his return during the July 14 episode of RAW, Roman Reigns made yet another appearance at tonight's event at the Toyota Center Houston, in Houston, Texas. CM Punk was also present to send a message to GUNTHER, whom he will be facing in the upcoming mega event. With quite a few explosive matches in hand, the July 21 edition of RAW began on a pretty thrilling note as CM Punk took to the stage to address his next opponent, GUNTHER, whom he will be facing for the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. The opening segment is all about CM Punk addressing the crowd as he talks about his upcoming match with GUNTHER. While he acknowledges that his opponent is one of the best wrestlers in the world, and on his second World Heavyweight Championship reign, Punk will give it his all inside the ring because he is the Best in the World, and will never quit. Just then, GUNTHER comes in. He gets to the ring and addresses Punk directly, saying he is not there to insult anyone or create any drama. He will show Punk why he is the best in the world at SummerSlam with his results, not because the crowd calls him that. They exchange a few more words before The Ring General walks off after a mic drop. The show goes backstage, where Stephanie Vaquer, who won her match against Alba Fyre on last week's episode of SmackDown, is being interviewed. She gets interrupted by Naomi , who is set to face Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY at SummerSlam , after she cashed in her Money in the Bank briefcase at the last minute at Evolution to become the new Women's World Champion. Naomi tells Vaquer that she will challenge her at Clash in Paris after she wins her triple-threat match at SummerSlam. After this exchange, fans are finally ready for the first match of the night. Rusev vs. Sheamus Rusev makes his entrance, followed by Sheamus. The latter starts the fight with a Brogue Kick through the gates, but Rusev dodges. It's a brawl from the very beginning, as they roll around the stage. Both use their signature moves to gain an upper hand over the other, and the crowd is fired up. At the end, Rusev drags Sheamus over after taking the turnbuckle cover off Unfortunately, things take a turn as Sheamus bounces Rusev's face into the turnbuckle, followed by a Brogue Kick. This one, Rusev couldn't dodge, and ended up in defeat. Sheamus wins via pinfall. We go backstage once more, where El Grande Americano is being interviewed by Byron Saxton, where he speaks in an European-inflected Spanish. He gets interrupted by Dragon Lee who calls him out for disrespecting luchadors. Americano says 'soy un luchador' and piefaces him, and soon enough, a brawl breaks out. WWE World Tag Team Championship #1 Contender's Match New Day makes their entrance, followed by the Creed Brothers and LWO. Brutus Creed, Kofi Kingston, and Joaquin Wilde start the match. Creed attacks Kingston before tagging his brother in, but the New Day member comes back in to take out Wilde. Xavier Woods gets tagged in, who goes after Julius, and it's a Unicorn Stampede with quick tags. Suddenly, Ivy Nile is inside the ring and shoves Joaquin Wilde. Dragon Lee is there too, and then suddenly, El Grande Americano attacks Dragon Lee, but the Creeds soon pull him off and yell at him for attacking his own stablemate! LWO takes advantage of this distraction, and Joaquin Wilde does a folding press on Kofi Kingston, taking the win to become the #1 contender to the WWE World Tag Team Championship. The Latino World Order win via pinfall. Backstage, IYO SKY is seen with the Kabuki Warriors, and they wish each other luck. Stephanie Vaquer comes in and says that after IYO wins at SummerSlam, they can finally face each other in Paris. IYO says they don't have to wait that long to see who is better and proposes a match, which gets accepted. Elsewhere, RAW GM Adam Pearce is seen talking to Dom Mysterio and tells him it's time he faces AJ Styles, who is coincidentally working as a janitor behind them. Mysterio dodges the conversation, saying he is not cleared for a fight. Styles then runs into a defeated New Day when Grayson Waller comes in. Next, Becky Lynch makes her way to the ring and addresses a crowd that's booing her. She demands respect, saying she should be in New York for the premiere of her new movie, Happy Gilmore 2, but has to be in Houston because that was needed of her. She calls Lyra Valkyria selfish before The North Angel makes her entrance. After a back-and-forth, the two make a deal - Lynch says that if Valkyria loses at SummerSlam, she can never challenge her for the title again. Lyra has her own stipulations - no countout, no disqualification, there must be a winner! Lynch agrees. It is set to be a truly explosive experience at SummerSlam. Becky Lynch asks Valkyria to shake her hand, who sees through the trap and ducks the shot, hitting The Man with a Manhandle Slam. Then, Bayley, followed by The Judgment Day, makes their way in. WWE Women's Tag Team Championship Bayley and Lyra Valkyria are facing Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez of The Judgment Day. Bayley, at the very beginning, gets a nearfall on Perez, who immediately tags out to Rodriguez. A Role Model leads to Valkyria being tagged in. It's a back-and-forth with quick tags. The match goes on for quite a while, as no one seems ready to give in. Finally, with the one-arm powerbomb from Raquel Rodriguez on Bayley, the Judgment Day takes the win to retain their WWE Women's Tag Team Championship. The Judgment Day win via pinfall. After a backstage segment, where Sami Zayn gets interviewed by Gorilla, both he and Karrion Kross make their way into the ring. Meanwhile, Dom Mysterio gets an ultimatum from Adam Pearce - either he gets to medical and gets clear to finally face AJ Styles or relinquish his title. Karrion Kross vs. Sami Zayn After their fight at Night of Champions, the two are facing each other once more. Karrion Kross knows what he wants, but Zayn will not be easy to break. He targets Zayn's already injured ribs, which proves to be the right way to go. And just when it seemed like Zayn could gain the upper hand, Scarlett Bordeaux interrupts with a cheap shot kick to his ribs. At the end, Kross goes for a steel pipe to the ribs while the referee wasn't looking and a lateral press on Sami Zayn to take the win. Karrion Kross wins via pinfall. Backstage, AJ Styles and Adam Pearce are waiting for Dom to get cleared by medical. But before the medic can give them a verdict, Mysterio blindsides Styles and says he'll see him at SummerSlam! IYO SKY vs. Stephanie Vaquer Both champions are powerhouse performers and they bring it to the ring. SKY goes for a waistlock, Vaquer counters to a wristlock. Vaquer bends SKY down to try and break her bridge but the latter counters with a monkey flip. It's all clean and friendly, to see who is stronger, better. But soon, the Secret Hervice comes in, and though Vaquer fights them off, Chelsea Green attacks her from behind. Stephanie Vaquer wins via disqualification. Both Vaquer and SKY run Green and her Secret Hervice off, but Naomi attacks IYO from behind and shoves Vaquer, who gets attacked by the Secret Hervice once again. Naomi, on the other hand, is mounting punches on SKY, until Rhea Ripley comes in to make the save. She takes out Alba Fyre and Piper Niven before moving to Naomi and taking her out with a back suplex facebuster. And lastly, Chelsea Green gets the Riptide. The last segment of the night sees Paul Heyman make his entrance alongside the Bron 'n Bron Connection. Once the Wiseman for Roman Reigns, he is now Seth Rollins' Oracle. Reigns soon makes his entrance. Heyman says that he doesn't want to disrespect anyone and that he loves his Tribal Chief. He has a proposition, with Rollins out with 'injury' for a long time, there is a space for Reigns to fill, and they could have what they had before. Reigns seems to be pondering for a moment before he rains fire. The crowd is loud with "Asshole!' chants for Heyman and " OTC" chants for Reigns much to the latter's amusement. He takes the mic and says he once thought of Heyman as his Wiseman, but he is just a dumbass. He tells the Bron 'n Bron Connection that sometime down the line, Heyman is going to try to take credit for them, like he did with Reigns for creating the Tribal Chief. He acknowledged that Heyman had a part in him stepping into the ring, but he had none in him keeping the title - that was his family, the Bloodline. He said that Heyman thinks they are like any other faction he can make, but he can't make the Bloodline because that's family, that's god's work! Heyman was a business partner before Reigns made him part of the family, but he threw it away. Bron Breakker takes the mic to call The OTC old news, worthless. But Reigns is not having that. He said he didn't hear anything Bron said and dropped the mic to finally throw hands. Unfortunately, he is outnumbered, and Bron spears the Tribal Chief! But it's Jey Uso to the save, who sends the heels packing with some well-timed Stinger Splash and enzuigiri to end the night. Also Read: Is Seth Rollins' Injury Legitimate or a Masterclass in Action? Not one to shy away from a good fight, the company has now decided to have Fatu and Sikoa face each other again.
