Celebi says arbitration application dismissed in India, to appeal in higher court
Celebi Ground Handling India's arbitration application for interim measures against Adani Ahmedabad International Airport over the cancellation of security permits was dismissed, according to exchange filing by its Turkish parent company. The company said it will appeal to the Supreme Court. Bureau of Civil Aviation Safety (BCAS) on May 15 revoked the security clearance, days after Turkey backed Pakistan and condemned India's strikes on terror camps in the neighbouring country. "The arbitration application filed by our company, Celebi Ground Handling India Pvt Ltd, in which our company owns 61% of the capital, against Adani Ahmedabad International Airport Limited in the Ahmedabad Commercial Court on 27.05.2025, seeking interim measures due to the cancellation of security clearances by the Civil Aviation Security Bureau in relation to its operations at Ahmedabad International Airport, was rejected on 02.06.2025," said the company. The Bombay High Court on May 26, temporarily restrained Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) from finalising tenders for ground and bridge handling services. The court ruled that the temporary halt will continue until Turkish firm Celebi's plea challenging the termination of its contract is heard when the court reopens in June. This interim order was issued by a vacation bench of Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan. The court order bars MIAL from taking any final decision on tenders floated on May 17 for a new ground handling agency. The revocation of security clearance of Celebi came amid backlash in India over Turkey's support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. The company had moved the High Court last week against revocation of its security clearance and subsequent termination of its contract with MIAL. Celebi's plea was mentioned before Justice Sundaresan seeking urgent relief against any decision on the tenders issued by MIAL on May 17. The court said no final decision shall be taken on the tenders till the pleas filed by Celebi are heard post reopening of the court in June. Turkiye-based airport ground handling services major Celebi's subsidiary had moved HC earlier this month against revocation of its security clearance and subsequent termination of its contract with MIAL.

4S Ranch fifth grader wins ‘Sheriff for the Day' contest
4S RANCH, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A fifth grader at Stone Ranch Elementary School in 4S Ranch got a sweet surprise from the San Diego County Sheriff's Office Thursday. Sheriff Kelly Martinez and members of her command staff visited Ashwin Sundaresan during class to announce him as the 'Sheriff for the Day' contest winner. Savannah Bananas bringing different style of baseball to Petco Park Here is the winning essay that Sundaresan submitted for the contest: 'Hi, my name is Ashwin and I'm in the 5th grade. When I grow up, I want to be a Sheriff in San Diego County. Some people want to be astronauts or doctors, but I want to help people right here in my own beautiful county. I want to be a Sheriff because I think it's really important to keep people safe. When someone is scared or in trouble, the Sheriff is the one they can count on. I want to be the kind of person who listens and shows up when people need help. Also, I like being a leader and working with others, and Sheriffs do a lot of that every day. If I were the Sheriff, I would do more than just prevent crime or punish criminals. I would visit schools to talk to kids about safety and being kind to each other. I'd make sure there were more neighborhood events, so people could get to know one another better. I think when people feel like they're part of a community, they're nicer to each other. I'd also help people who don't have homes or need food by working with shelters and food banks. Being a Sheriff means caring about everyone, not just the people who follow the rules. Everyone deserves help sometimes. I know it's a big job, but I'm not afraid of working hard. I want to be a Sheriff so I can make a real difference and show that even one person can help a whole town feel safe and happy.' Sundaresan, who was sworn in as Sheriff for the Day, also received a special tour of the Sheriff's Office. 'The reason I applied for this is because I'm a part of our school student safety patrol, so I keep fellow students at my school safe. And I wanted to learn more about how a sheriff keeps the local community safe,' Sundaresan said in front of the sheriff's staff. The sheriff's department wanted to thank all the fifth graders who participated in the Sheriff for the Day essay contest. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Celebi Row: Bombay HC halts Mumbai airport's final call on ground services bids till June
The Bombay High Court on Monday, May 26, temporarily restrained Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) from finalising tenders for ground and bridge handling services. Turkiye-based airport ground handling services major Celebi's subsidiary had moved HC last week against revocation of its security clearance and subsequent termination of its contract with MIAL. Three petitions were filed by Celebi Nas Airport Services India, which operated at the Mumbai airport, challenging the Centre's decision to revoke the security clearance and contract termination. The pleas said the decisions were arbitrary and illegal and sought that they be set aside. Celebi holds 59 per cent capital of Celebi Nas Airport Services India Private Limited. The petition sought suspension and annulment of the administrative decision of security clearance cancellation granted by Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) under Ministry of Civil Aviation of India. It also sought annulment of terminations of Bridge Mounted Equipment Service Agreement and the Concession Agreement, and Ground Handling Services by MIAL. By way of interim relief, Celebi had sought HC to restrain MIAL from taking any final decision on the tenders issued on May 17 for the selection of a new ground handling agency for these services. Two other Celebi subsidiaries, namely Celebi Airport Services India and Celebi Delhi Cargo Terminal Management India, had earlier this month moved the Delhi High Court against the security clearance revocation and cancellation of contracts by the Delhi airport operator.

HC restrains MIAL from taking final decision on Celebi ground services contract till June
The Bombay High Court on Monday temporarily halted Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) from finalising tenders for ground and bridge handling services until Turkish firm Celebi's plea against its contract termination is heard after the court reopens in June. This interim order, issued by a vacation bench of Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan, ensures that no action is taken on the tenders until Celebi's legal challenges, stemming from the revocation of its security clearance and contract termination, are heard post-court reopening in June. The company had moved the High Court last week against revocation of its security clearance and subsequent termination of its contract with MIAL. Celebi's plea was mentioned before Justice Sundaresan seeking urgent relief against any decision on the tenders issued by MIAL on May 17. SS funds only if TN signs PM SHRI pact: Centre
'An MoU has to be signed between the central government and the respective state governments. A number of state governments have signed it and the funds have been released. As far as TN is concerned, they have not yet signed it, and therefore, funds are not released,' Sundaresan told the bench. Additional Advocate General (AAG) J Ravindran, appearing for the state government, called it a 'big brother attitude' to say that funds would be released only if the MoU is signed. The bench asked the ASG whether an MoU could be framed without the conditions to implement the three-language policy or NEP. He said he could reply only after discussing it with the department concerned and that would require time. Sundaresan also informed the court that as per sub-section 6 of section 7 of RTE Act, the central government shall develop a framework of national curriculum with the help of academic authorities specified under section 29 and therefore it is a body that looks into NEP, which is applicable across the country. The bench reserved the orders and directed the AAG to submit the minutes of the meeting of the government authorities scheduled for May 28 to discuss the issue.
