Bihar sends a proposal to the Center for another tiger reserve in Kaimur
Patna, Jul 29 (PTI) Enthused by the sharp increase in the tiger population at Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR), the only national park in Bihar, the Bihar government has sent a proposal to the Centre seeking permission to develop 'Kaimur wildlife sanctuary' (KWLS) into another tiger reserve. While speaking at a function organised on the occasion of International Tiger Day, Bihar Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Sunil Kumar, said, 'A new tiger reserve is expected soon in Kaimur district, and a proposal has already been sent to the Central government for final approval. 'The population of tigers has substantially increased in Bihar over the years. The number of tigers in Bihar has increased eightfold over the past 12 years, demonstrating that the state is an excellent habitat for tiger breeding," he said. Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (DEFCC), Harjot Kaur Bamhrah, who was also present on the occasion, shared key directives regarding tiger conservation, stressing the importance of avoiding encroachment into tiger habitats and letting them reign as the true kings of the forest. It may be recalled that the Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) in West Champaran district recorded a 75 per cent increase in tiger numbers. As per the report – 'Status of Tigers: Co-predators & Prey in India-2022' – released by the National Tiger Conservation Authority and Wildlife Institute of India on July 29, 2023, the VTR recorded a 75 per cent increase in the number of tigers from 31 in 2018 to 54 in 2022. On the occasion of International Tiger Day, a painting and quiz competition was also organised at the Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park, popularly known as Patna Zoo. Small margins, big deletions: Bihar's voter list shake-up will impact many races
Ahead of the Assembly elections in Bihar, 65 lakh names have been dropped or shifted. That's nearly one in every 12 voters, and more than the average winning margin in most seats! Why it matters: Most Assembly seats in Bihar are won by razor-thin margins. The average number of deleted or migrated voters per constituency — about 26,749 — exceeds the winning margin in two-thirds of seats in 2020. That scale of change could swing the outcome in dozens of numbers:7.89 crore: Total registered voters as of June 247.24 crore: Voters who submitted verification forms65 lakh: Estimated number of removed or migrated voters26,749: Average deletions per Assembly seat16,825: Average victory margin in 2020165: Seats in 2020 with margins smaller than the deletion averageIn-depth: On July 27, the ECI announced that 91.69 per cent of Bihar's electors had submitted forms during a Special Intensive Revision of voter rolls. This process, meant to clean up the voter list before the 2025 polls, has flagged 65 lakh names as people who may have died, moved away, or were names will not appear in the draft rolls to be published on August 1. But the exclusions are not final. Voters will still be able to raise objections and submit claims between August 1 and September ECI says the effort is part of routine upkeep. Yet, its timing and sheer scale are bound to have an impact, especially when juxtaposed with Bihar's tight electoral 2020, 165 of 243 seats were decided by margins smaller than the average number of voters now deleted per seat. That includes Bhorey, where the Janata Dal (United)'s Sunil Kumar won by just 462 votes, where 7,680 voters have since been removed or picture: Bihar's voter revision raises critical a state where elections often hinge on a few hundred or thousand votes, a voter list reshuffle of this magnitude could shift the balance in dozens of constituencies. With elections due later this year, the effect of this data — and the process that follows — may reverberate well beyond the publication of the draft they said: 'We are ensuring that no eligible voter is left behind. The Claims and Objections period will allow anyone wrongly excluded to be added back,' said the Election Commission of India on July 27.- EndsTune InMust Watch

Ravindra Bhavan misses July deadline, September inauguration likely
1 2 Ranchi: The much-anticipated inauguration of Ravindra Bhavan, city's Rs 244 crore cultural complex, has now been pushed to Sept from July. We understand the growing public interest and are closely monitoring the progress. All efforts are in place to complete the final works and open the complex to the public by Sept 2025," said Sunil Kumar, secretary, urban development and housing department. Over 3k cops trained under advanced training since 2022
Patna: In a significant move to strengthen law enforcement capabilities, Bihar Police successfully trained 3,137 police officers since 2022 through its Advanced Training School (ATS) for the effective implementation of three new criminal laws. Previously, the training programme accommodated approximately 50 officers monthly, but this increased substantially to 350 officers per month, with each batch receiving two weeks of intensive training. The most recent training session, the 171st ATS batch, was conducted from July 8-21, 2025, where 346 police officers, including police inspectors and directly recruited sub-inspectors, received comprehensive training, said a senior official of police headquarters (PHQ) on Thursday. The three new criminal laws, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), came into force from July 1, 2024. These laws replaced Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and Indian Evidence Act, respectively. Additional director general (ADG) of crime investigation department (CID), Sunil Kumar, said under these laws, some new provisions were made and emphasis was placed on the use of new technologies for the investigation and trial of cases. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If You Have Arthritis Avoid This Food Active Life Journal Learn More Undo "In such a scenario, it is extremely necessary to provide special training in modern technologies and research methods to police officers and personnel from time to time during their service period so that they can become more capable, knowledgeable, and technically proficient. This will enable them to play a better role in maintaining peace and order in society and establishing the rule of law," he said. "Located at Bihar Police Academy in Rajgir, the ATS provides enhanced training to police officers focused on modern policing techniques and technologies, including digital forensics, CCTV analysis, mobile data tracking, DNA analysis, fingerprinting, photography and videography. This modernised approach aims to improve both crime investigation and evidence collection procedures, making them more scientific and effective," the ADG said. He said the ATS curriculum also includes detailed modules on the importance of physical evidence in investigations, covering aspects such as wound analysis, DNA testing, and collection and analysis of various types of forensic evidence. "Participants are trained in utilising modern technological tools for investigation, including the latest developments in mobile and computer forensics," Kumar said, adding, "Officers receive instruction on FIR procedures, preliminary investigation protocols, and relevant police orders. Special attention is given to the documentation of relevant facts, disputed matters, witness statements, and confession recordings." According to him, the programme also covers comprehensive investigation procedures for both bodily harm and property-related crimes, addressing common mistakes found in daily police records and other procedural errors. He said a notable inclusion in the curriculum is the detailed explanation of Section 107 of the Indian Justice Security Code 2023, which deals with the seizure of crime-acquired properties, along with procedures under the Bihar Crime Control Act. "To ensure continuous skill development, the programme emphasises regular training at district headquarters and police station levels for computer operations and various technological applications," he said. The CID ADG further said, "To further enhance expertise, the department is collaborating with premier institutions like CBI and National Investigation Agency (NIA). Officers are also sent to prestigious training institutes across India for specialised courses." He added that the next training session is scheduled to commence on August 1, 2025, continuing the department's commitment to building a more competent and technologically advanced police force in Bihar.
