Poole-based Sunseeker International announces 200 job at risk due to US tariffs

ITV News Meridian's Richard Slee has been speaking to the company's CEO. A luxury yacht maker has announced 200 jobs are at risk at its base in Poole, Dorset. Sunseeker International is a major employer, with around 2,000 workers in the town. The change would mean a loss of around 10% of its company has said the decision had not been taken lightly but it needs to restructure in order to cut costs and become sustainable for the future. The company says the jobs at risk now will come from middle management and support. Andrea Fabretti, CEO of Sunseeker International said: "We have tariff for United States export which is very important. "We're exporting more than 50% of our production to the United States, so this has been affected recently. "We want to maintain as much as possible people committed to work, for Sunseeker to be prepared, when the political situation will calm down and the market will restart, we will have enough power to restart strongly and restructured." A few months ago around 100 workers were temporarily laid off on full pay due to a shortage of work. The company says the jobs at risk now will come from middle management and support. The company says it is doing all it can to minimise job losses and that there are no plans to move the business outside of Poole. Labour MP, Neil Duncan-Jordan said: "These are my constituents, these are people with families, houses, bills to pay, they need support. "I have written to the government to see what support they can offer, to the company going forward particularly in relation to the American tarriffs and I'm hoping something will come back that's positive." The consultation process for the jobs at risk will last 45 days.

We rented a 90-foot yacht with a captain to explore Miami by water for the day. It was a highlight of our trip.

In Miami, my friends and I rented a yacht with a captain and crew for four hours through Boatsetter. We went around Biscayne Bay, the Keys, and Star Island, and got to ride Jet Skis. Overall, we had a really great time, and I'd definitely rent a yacht again. When visiting Miami with a group of friends, we decided to rent a boat and spend our day cruising around Biscayne Bay. To find one, I used the boat-rental app Boatsetter, which is often referred to as the "Airbnb for boats." It connects boat owners with renters in over 700 locations around the world, from Miami to the Amalfi Coast. Here's what the experience was like. Our group chose a 90-foot yacht. The Boatsetter platform has everything from pontoons to sleek yachts available to rent, but our group of eight decided to go all out with a 90-foot Sunseeker yacht for four hours. We also added catering, a captain, and a small crew. The crew we hired included a captain, first mate, and steward. Booking was easy — we made the reservation directly through the website a few days in advance and paid in full. Our rental was $2,656, or $332 a person, after service fees and sales tax. The yacht felt really nice and spacious. We especially liked the onboard hot tub and Jet Skis. Its deck felt spacious and comfortably fit our whole group. I especially liked the hot tub on the deck, which was one of the reasons we wanted to rent this particular boat. Catering was arranged during our booking. Catering was an optional add-on, but we chose to get salads and snacks from Carrot Express, a popular café in Miami that I love. Our boat's owner also left a bottle of sparkling wine on board for us, which was a nice touch. The views were lovely throughout our ride. For this trip, we went with our captain's suggested route around Biscayne Bay, the Keys, and Star Island. As we cruised around the Bay, it was fun to see all the towering skyscrapers and different neighborhoods by boat. Along the way, we even spotted the Skyviews Miami Observation Wheel. I especially enjoyed taking out the boat's Jet Skis. We ended the day near Star Island, where we tried to spot celebrity homes. Our ride was especially beautiful as the sun set. Overall, this was one of the highlights of my Miami trip. The only downside of the experience is that we got back a bit later than expected and missed our post-boating dinner reservation. We didn't blame our captain, though. Several bridges along the route must be raised for boats to pass under, which can require coordination between captains and the county. This can sometimes lead to delays. Next time, I just wouldn't make any time-sensitive plans after a boat day. Despite that small hiccup, I had a really great experience renting a boat. Four hours felt like the ideal amount of time to spend on the water and and the booking process was seamless. I'd use Boatsetter again next time I'm in Miami, especially for a special occasion like a birthday. The experience can be a bit costly, but it's fun, and the views on the Bay are beautiful.

The Series Of Seafood Recalls That Left Consumers Sick To Their Stomachs

Just eating raw oysters leaves room for many surprises. How meaty will they be? How briny? Will there be any residual sand inside? The luckiest consumers even find pearls. However, hundreds of unlucky oyster consumers were recently left with the worst of surprises: norovirus. From December 2024 to February 2025, several oyster farms across North America issued recalls due to norovirus contamination. These alerts came during the 2024 rise in food recalls during which seafood recalls alone affected millions. The earliest recall included contaminated Fanny Bay, Sunseeker, and Cloudy Bar oysters harvested in British Columbia between late November and early December 2024. Taylor Shellfish Canada issued the recall, noting that the oysters were distributed to Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario, Canada, as well as California. Then, in the second week of December 2024, oysters from Pacific Northwest Shellfish and Union Bay Seafood were found to be contaminated with norovirus, so those two farms recalled Fanny Bay, Buckley Bay, and Royal Miyagi oysters harvested between December 1 and 9 in British Columbia, Canada -- they were shipped to at least 15 U.S. states. Ruco's Shellfish — a Washington-based oyster farm — also recalled oysters harvested from a section of the Hammersley Inlet between December 2 and 17. A Louisiana-based oyster farm and shellfish company issued a recall of oysters harvested after January 10, 2025, following a string of norovirus cases linked to a harvesting area around the Chandeleur Islands. The Louisiana Department of Health closed the harvesting area on February 4, and by February 25, most of the area had been reopened. However, the contaminated oysters still made it to 19 states, including Florida, Alabama, New York, Vermont, and Minnesota. There were at least 266 reported illnesses associated with the outbreak. All other Louisiana-harvested shellfish and seafood were deemed safe for consumption. In all instances, government agencies instructed restaurants, retailers, and consumers alike not to purchase, sell, serve, or eat any of the oysters known to carry norovirus. The agencies also noted the importance of safe handling of the contaminated shellfish and proper sanitization of any surface that came in contact with the oysters to avoid cross contamination.
