Most-Improved SUV Of 2025
When the 2025 Outlander arrived for a week's test looking, feeling and smelling like a luxury brand, it was cause for celebration and praise. There was a time, during the early 2000s, where one avoided anything with the name 'Mitsubishi' as it used to be synonymous with 'wheezing, ugly and insubstantial.' Is the 2025 Outlander perfect? No. But it's close. Let's have a look.

What's new for 2025?
2025 brings extensive updates to the interior including materials, revised controls and updated cupholders - all in response to customer surveys, says the company. There's an authoritative front grille and bumper, and revised rear tail lights. It's also got a particularly rich, powerful Yamaha sound system with 12 speakers and 1600 watts of output and two separate amps driving the subwoofer and the balance of the system.
The Outlander starts at a relatively reasonable $32,005, with higher trims and options bringing the price up to $46,455. It's available in front-wheel drive and 'Super-All Wheel Control', all-wheel drive configurations.

2025 Mitsubishi Outlander
Mitsubishi upgraded the Outlander's already better-than-average looking-and-feeling cabin for 2025, adding higher-quality materials and modern design touches that rival vehicles costing more. You sit it in the cockpit and you can feel the quality, and it's a pleasure. Highlights include an available 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a head-up display. The second-row seats are suitable for big and tall adults if you are one, but the third row is for kids only, or the dog(s).
Tech
A 12.3-inch touchscreen is standard, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto coming standard. Charging ports are at the bottom of the center stack, and the system still includes some physical buttons and a volume knob, which were much appreciated. They really took care to make a beautiful interior, and it shows.

Engine and Performance
The Outlander's standard engine is a 2.5-liter inline-four-cylinder making 181 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. It's paired exclusively with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Front-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is optional. Mileage is a pretty-good 27 MPG combined city/highway.

How's the drive?
The vehicle handles fine for the price, and brakes were suitably tight, but it's tough to overlook the wheezing, audible engine and slow acceleration despite the paddle shifters. For Sunday cruising, getting to the store to gym to work and back, you'll do fine. Try to overtake others, or get up to speed going uphill, and it's a tougher battle, and the loud engine will never let you forget you're trying to make it do something it's not great at.
The gearless CVT is ever-so sluggish at highway speeds but body motions are well-controlled and the ride is taut. Added sound-deadening makes the cabin impressively quiet, but overall, this is a comfortable cruiser, not a corner-carver. Keep that in mind and you'll do fine. Finally, the Outlander can tow up to 2,000 pounds, good for light-duty hauling.
Safety
Forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking, Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert and lane-departure warning are all included. Higher trims add features like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist.
Warranty and Maintenance
Mitsubishi's warranty coverage is one of the strongest in the segment, with a limited warranty of 5 years or 60,000 miles, powertrain warranty of 10 years or 100,000 miles and complimentary maintenance for 2 years or 30,000 miles.
