Metallica eye Las Vegas Sphere residency and Super Bowl Halftime Show in explosive 2026 plans
Metallica are gearing up for a massive year, with drummer Lars Ulrich confirming that both a Las Vegas Sphere residency and a Super Bowl Halftime Show are on the table for 2026. While nothing has been officially confirmed, the band's interest is clear, and the momentum is building fast. Speaking on The Howard Stern Show, Ulrich addressed swirling rumours about Metallica taking over the Sphere in Las Vegas, following the footsteps of U2 and the Eagles. 'I'm not going to confirm anything, because there's nothing to confirm,' he said, 'but I'm not going to deny it either.' He admitted the venue blew him away and confessed, 'I would fucking love to do it.' Guitarist Kirk Hammett has also shown enthusiasm, calling the Sphere a game-changer for live music and praising its cutting-edge technology and immersive potential. Metallica are currently preparing for an intimate 250-person show on August 28 to launch their new SiriusXM channel, Maximum Metallica, but plans for grander stages are clearly in motion. Ulrich also lit up when asked about performing at the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show, which will take place in the band's hometown of San Francisco. 'Fuck yeah, of course we would,' he said, calling it a dream gig. 'To do it in San Francisco would be a dream come true… It would be the right fit.' With heavy rock seeing a surge in live attendance this year and Metallica's legacy more relevant than ever, a halftime performance seems not only possible but overdue. As the 2026 tour wraps up, the stars may finally align for Metallica to conquer both the most high-tech stage in the world and the biggest televised music event on Earth.

Blocked ‘Bang, Bang, Bang!' Blessings: Marlon Wayans Alleges NBC Rejected ‘The Wayans Bros.' Because John Witherspoon's Pops Was ‘Too Ghetto'
Marlon Wayans recently alleged that if it were up to NBC, The Wayans Bros. never would've had one of the most iconic characters, John Witherspoon's Pops. The gag is… network execs wanted someone like Danny Glover instead. Source: Ethan Miller/Earl Gibson III / Getty Imagine the beloved sitcom without its biggest scene-stealer! On the latest episode of Baby, This Is Keke Palmer , Marlon shared that NBC allegedly tried to yeet Mr. 'Yitadee' himself, John Witherspoon. 'We didn't make it to NBC. We did a table reading, and they thought [Witherspoon's character] was too ghetto. And they wanted us to have a different father…like a Danny Glover type, and we was like, 'No,'' Wayans recalled. NBC had a lot of power in the era of hit shows like ER and Friends , the Him actor and his big brother Shawn weren't new to this. The silly siblings had their own track record of success as movie stars and network TV veterans of a historic comedy show. In Living Color was such a breakout hit that it created the Super Bowl Halftime Show as we know it and solidified Fox's status as the fourth major broadcast network. The same dynasty behind stars like Jim Carrey and Jamie Foxx knows comedic gold when they see it. 'It's the flavor of the show. We was like, 'It's John Witherspoon or it's not.' … We ain't going to do the show. And they was like, 'Well, negro, you're not doing the show,'' he continued. A legend like Danny Glover was tempting, but Wayans and his team refused to fumble the Friday star's unmatched energy for respectability politics. Fortunately, the WB understood the assignment. 'We was like 'Wait, hold on, Danny Glover, you say?' But then, the WB was starting, and it was like, 'I think that's a great combination.' So, everything is God. One man's trash is another man's treasure, and it's not about the doors that close; it's the ones that open up,' Wayans said. The show went forward as planned, starring Witherspoon as the Pops we know and love. The series premiered on the WB in January 1995, with its fifth and final season ending in May 1999. Witherspoon passed away from a heart attack in 2019 at 77 years old. Wayans went on to discuss dealing with grief, starring in the next Jordan Peele film, his Wild Child tour, and the upcoming return of the horror spoof franchise with Scary Movie 6 . Check out Marlon's full interview on Baby, This Is Keke Palmer below. The post Blocked 'Bang, Bang, Bang!' Blessings: Marlon Wayans Alleges NBC Rejected 'The Wayans Bros.' Beyoncé vs. Jay-Z and More Music Highlights From 2025 Primetime Emmy Nods
Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z are going head-to-head in a marquee category for the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards. The Netflix special Beyoncé Bowl is competing for outstanding variety special (live) with The Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show Starring Kendrick Lamar – which Jay-Z executive produced. Both programs received four nominations. Beyoncé was also nominated for outstanding directing for a variety special, a nod she shares with Alex Rudzinksi. This brings her career nominations total to 10. Beyoncé, a 35-time Grammy winner, has yet to win an Emmy. Jay has won two Emmys – outstanding variety special live in 2022 as an executive producer of The Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show Starring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent and outstanding directing for a variety special the following year for The Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show Starring Rihanna. More from Billboard Here Are the 2025 Primetime Emmy Nominees in All 7 Music Categories: Full List Morgan Wallen's 'I'm the Problem,' Kendrick Lamar & SZA's 'Luther' Lead Luminate's 2025 Midyear Charts GWAR's Blöthar Urges Americans to 'Rise Up!' Against Trump Effort to Defund Public Media: 'This Could Very Well Silence the Music' This year's other nominees for outstanding variety special (live) are the 2025 Oscars (ABC) and a pair of specials saluting Saturday Night Live's 50th anniversary — SNL50: The Anniversary Special (NBC) and SNL50: The Homecoming Concert (Peacock). Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar were the top winners at the 2025 Grammys, where Beyoncé finally won album of the year for the first time, and Lamar swept all five awards for which he was nominated, including record and song of the year. Both stars elected not to perform on the Grammys, which was passed over for a nod for outstanding variety special (live). Severance was this year's most nominated program with 27 nods, but if you combine Saturday Night Live and the various 50th anniversary salutes to that legendary show, they collectively received even more nods with 31. Questlove received three nominations for his work on three different programs — outstanding directing for a documentary/nonfiction program for Ladies & Gentlemen…50 Years of SNL Music (alongside Oz Rodriguez); outstanding music direction for SNL50: The Homecoming Concert (alongside James Poyser); and outstanding documentary or nonfiction special for Sly Lives! (Aka The Burden of Black Genius). These are Questlove's first Emmy nods. He has won six Grammys and an Oscar. Many other top music stars or programs were nominated in various categories. Selena Gomez is nominated for outstanding comedy series as an executive producer of Hulu's Only Murders in the Building. This is her fourth consecutive nomination in that category, which extends her Emmy record as the Latina producer with the most nods. She was passed over this year for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series, a category in which she was nominated last year. Cynthia Erivo, who was nominated for an Oscar earlier this year for her lead performance in Wicked, is nominated for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series for Peacock's Poker Face. This is her second Primetime Emmy nod. I Am Celine Dion (Prime Video) is among the nominees for exceptional merit. Shawn Mendes: Red Rocks Live in VR is among the nominees for outstanding emerging media. Julie Andrews received her 12th Primetime Emmy nod, this time for outstanding character voiceover performance for Bridgerton (Netflix). The legendary star landed her first Primetime Emmy nod in 1958 – actress, best single performance – lead or support – for her role in CBS' broadcast of Cinderella. This is the longest span of nominations in Emmy history. Conan O'Brien: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor is nominated for outstanding variety special (pre-recorded), where it is competing with five stand-up specials – by Adam Sandler, Ali Wong, Sarah Silverman and Nate Bargatze (all on Netflix) and Bill Burr (on Hulu). Bargatze is hosting this year's Primetime Emmys. Conan O'Brien, who hosted the Oscars in January and is set to host the 2026 Oscars, is also nominated for outstanding hosted nonfiction for Conan O'Brien Must Go (HBO Max). His competition includes My Next Guest Needs No Introduction (Netflix), hosted by fellow talk show legend (and former Oscar host) David Letterman. In the reality competition category, NBC's The Voice was shut out for the first time since 2011, when it was in its debut season. The nominees are The Traitors (Peacock), which won last year; CBS's The Amazing Race, which has won 10 times in the category; RuPaul's Drag Race (MTV), which has won five times; Top Chef (Bravo), which won in 2010); and CBS's Survivor, which has yet to win in the category. The Daily Show, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel Live! are the three nominees for outstanding talk series. The Daily Show has won it (or a predecessor category) 13 times. This would be the first win for this either of the other shows (though Colbert won twice for his previous series, The Colbert Report.) There are only three slots this year because there were only 13 submissions in the category. That was a bad break for Late Night With Seth Meyers, which was nominated the last three years. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was passed over in the category for the ninth consecutive year. That's the longest The Tonight Show has ever gone without a nod in this category since the show went on the air in 1954. Saturday Night Live (NBC) and Last Week Tonight With John Oliver (HBO Max) are the two nominees for outstanding scripted variety series. This is a real battle of the heavyweights: SNL won in this category six years in a row, until 2023, when Oliver's program was moved into this category. His show won the last two years. Last Week Tonight has won nine Emmys in top series categories. SNL has won eight. Hamish Hamilton has two nominations for outstanding directing for a variety special. He's nominated for both the Oscars and the Kendrick Lamar half-time show. Barack Obama is nominated for outstanding narrator for Our Oceans (Netflix). The former president has won twice in that category, for Our Great National Parks (2022) and Working: What We Do All Day (2023). If he wins, he'll have more Emmys to his name than Grammys (two). Ken Jennings, host of Jeopardy (ABC), is competing for outstanding game show host with, among others, Colin Jost, host of the new Prime Video spin-off, Pop Culture Jeopardy. The other nominees in the category are Elizabeth Banks (Press Your Luck), Steve Harvey (Celebrity Family Feud) and Jimmy Kimmel (Who Wants to Be a Millionaire). Two Oscar-winning directors, Martin Scorsese and Ron Howard, are among those competing for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series, both for their roles on The Studio (Apple TV+). This is Howard's first Emmy nomination for acting. He started out as an actor on The Andy Griffith Show and Happy Days. First-round voting runs from Aug. 18-27. The Creative Arts Emmys will be will be presented over two nights, Saturday, Sept. 6, and Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live. Highlights from the two ceremonies will air Saturday, Sept. 13, at 8:00 PM PT on FXX. The Primetime Emmys will be telecast live coast-to-coast on Sunday Sept. 14 from 8:00-11:00 PM ET/5:00-8:00 PM PT) on CBS and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. Beyoncé and Jay-Z Are Competing at the Upcoming Emmys: They've Already Done That 6 Times at the Grammys
As we reported on Tuesday (July 15), Beyoncé and Jay-Z are competing against each other at this year's Primetime Emmy Awards. Beyoncé Bowl, the Netflix special in which Beyoncé is both performer and executive producer, and The Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show Starring Kendrick Lamar, which Jay-Z executive produced, are both nominated for outstanding variety special (live). More from Billboard Tauren Wells to Host 2025 GMA Dove Awards Jason Aldean, Trisha Yearwood, Old Dominion & More Set to Perform at 2025 Nashville Songwriter Awards Alison Krauss & Union Station, Billy Strings Lead 2025 IBMA Bluegrass Music Awards Nominees The other nominees in the category are The Oscars, SNL50: The Anniversary Special and SNL50: The Homecoming Concert. This is the fifth consecutive year that Jay-Z has been nominated in that marquee category. He was also nominated as an executive producer of the halftime shows starring The Weeknd (2021); Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and 50 Cent (2022); Rihanna (2023); and Usher (2024). He won in 2022 for the hip-hop extravaganza. This is Bey's first nomination in this category, though she was nominated in a predecessor category, outstanding special class – short-format live-action entertainment programs, when she headlined the halftime show in 2013. And she has been nominated in closely-related categories. Beyoncé and Jay Z On the Run was nominated for outstanding special class program in 2015; Lemonade for outstanding variety special in 2016; and Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé for outstanding variety special (pre-recorded) in 2019. (Despite 10 nominations, she has yet to win a Primetime Emmy.) It's understandable that there would be so much media interest in a high-profile married couple competing against each other for a major award, but we should point out that Beyoncé and Jay-Z have competed against each other six times at the Grammy Awards and have lived to tell the tale. In three of those cases, they were together on one of the nominated entries, so they wouldn't have had divided loyalties. But in the other three cases, as in the current Emmy showdown, they were flat-out rivals. Here's a summary of the six times Beyoncé and Jay-Z have gone head-to-head at the Grammys – and who won in each case. The years refer to the years of the Grammy ceremony. 2004: Best rap/sung collaboration Notes: Beyonce's 'Crazy in Love' (featuring Jay) competed with Pharrell Williams' 'Frontin',' on which Jay was featured. 'Crazy in Love' was the lead single from Bey's solo debut album, Dangerously in Love. 'Frontin'' was the second single from The Neptunes Present… Clones, a compilation album by Pharrell and Chad Hugo. This one was no contest: 'Crazy in Love' topped the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks and also landed a record of the year nod. And the Grammy went to: 'Crazy in Love' 2006: Best rap/sung collaboration Notes: The Jay-Z/Linkin Park collab 'Numb/Encore' competed with Destiny's Child's 'Soldier' (featuring T.I. and Lil Wayne). 'Numb/Encore' was the only single released from the collab EP Collision Course. 'Soldier' was the second single from the trio's final studio album, Destiny Fulfilled. And the Grammy went to: 'Numb/Encore' 2008: Record of the year Notes: Beyoncé's 'Irreplaceable' went up against Rihanna's 'Umbrella,' on which Jay was featured. Both songs had long runs at No. 1 on the Hot 100 – 10 weeks and seven weeks, respectively. 'Irreplaceable' was the third single from Bey's second studio album B'Day. 'Umbrella' was the lead single from Rihanna's third studio album, Good Girl Gone Bad. And the Grammy went to: Amy Winehouse's 'Rehab' 2010: Best rap/sung collaboration Notes: Beyoncé's 'Ego,' featuring Kanye West, which she recorded for the deluxe edition of her third studio album, I Am…Sasha Fierce, competed with 'Run This Town,' on which Jay teamed with Rihanna and West. The latter smash was the second single from Jay's 11th studio album, The Blueprint 3. And the Grammy went to: 'Run This Town' 2014: Best rap/sung collaboration Notes: Jay-Z's 'Part II (On the Run)' (featuring Beyoncé), the third single from his 12th studio album, Magna Carta…Holy Grail, competed with the lead single from that album, 'Holy Grail' (featuring Justin Timberlake). And the Grammy went to: 'Holy Grail' 2023: Song of the year Notes: Beyoncé's 'Break My Soul' (which Bey co-wrote with Jay, The-Dream and Christopher A. Stewart) competed with the DJ Khaled hit 'God Did,' which Jay also co-wrote. 'Break My Soul' was the lead single from Bey's seventh studio album, Renaissance. 'God Did' was the title track from DJ Khaled's 13th studio album. And the Grammy went to: Bonnie Raitt's 'Just Like That' Best of Billboard Chart Rewind: In 1989, New Kids on the Block Were 'Hangin' Tough' at No. 1 Janet Jackson's Biggest Billboard Hot 100 Hits H.E.R. & Chris Brown 'Come Through' to No. 1 on Adult R&B Airplay Chart Solve the daily Crossword

Nicki Minaj alleges Jay-Z owes her at least $128m, Entertainment News
Nicki Minaj has alleged Jay-Z owes her between US$100 and US$200 million (S$128 million to S$256 million). The Anaconda rapper was one of the original artists that went into partnership with Jay-Z's streaming platform Tidal, launched in 2015. She was reportedly given three per cent equity in exchange for exclusive content and promotion. In 2021, Jay-Z sold a majority stake in Tidal to Jack Dorsey's Square for US$302 million, and the fallout began when she was allegedly only offered US$1 million from the sale. Nicki has now blasted the music mogul and warned him the interest is building, while she pledged to use the money he allegedly owes her to pay off her fans' — known as Barbz — tuition fees and student loans. She raged on X on Tuesday (July 8): "We've calculated about 100-200MM so far. #JayZ call me to settle this karmic debt. It's only collecting more interest. "You still in my Top 5 though. Let's get it n****. And anyone still calling him Hov will answer to god for the blasphemy." Nicki later added: "I'm going to use some of the money #JayZ owes me to send some of my Barbz to college, pay their school fees and student loans via my #StudentOfTheGame charity." She also brought up Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez being pardoned by President Donald Trump. Jay-Z's Roc Nation curates and produces the Super Bowl Halftime Show for the NFL, and during his performance on the pitch in February, Kendrick Lamar performed his Drake diss hit Not Like Us. Referencing the Super Bowl, Minaj penned: "So wait. JayZ had not like us playing at the superbowl after his CEO was pardoned by President Trump? We gotta find out who 'they' is. President Biden posting not like us after Desirat was pardoned by President Trump is so (sic)" [[nid:719970]]
