Tesla Diner 's First Week Draws Crowds, Critics, and Controversy in Hollywood
A week after its bold debut in Los Angeles, Tesla Diner is continuing to spark headlines—not only for its striking design but also for the polarized reactions surrounding it. Located in the heart of Hollywood, Tesla Diner marks the brand's first foray into the restaurant world, offering a nostalgic 1950s dining experience with a futuristic Tesla twist. The two-story, 9,000-square-foot venue aims to transform EV charging into a memorable stop for food, entertainment, and brand engagement. At the core of the Tesla Diner concept is a full-service eatery paired with 80 V4 Superchargers and large outdoor cinema screens. Diners enjoy classic American fare—burgers, hot dogs, tacos—served in Cybertruck-themed packaging, with roller-skating servers enhancing the retro-futuristic ambiance. Within just six hours of opening, Tesla Diner reportedly generated around $47,000 in sales, outperforming many fast-food restaurants in the surrounding area. But the public spectacle has also drawn political and social backlash. Demonstrations outside the Tesla Diner during its opening days raised questions about the brand's broader strategies. Critics argue that the diner is more than a playful concept—it's a calculated distraction from Tesla's recent financial challenges and a move to regain public attention at a time when the company faces scrutiny. Financially, Tesla's Q1 2025 results reflected notable pressure: a 71% decline in year-over-year vehicle profits and a 20% drop in overall automotive revenue. These numbers have led some analysts to view Tesla Diner not merely as a novelty, but as a serious attempt to diversify revenue streams and reframe the brand's identity amid economic headwinds. The spectacle continued inside the diner as well. Tesla's Optimus robot made a surprise appearance during opening week, handing out popcorn and drawing social media buzz. Photos and videos of the neon décor, vintage soundtrack, and high-tech touches from Tesla Diner quickly spread online, turning the venue into a viral destination. Elon Musk has confirmed that Tesla Diner will not remain a one-off. A second location is already in progress in Texas, with plans for further expansion into other major cities and along key highway routes. Musk described the project as 'an island of good food and entertainment,' signaling his ambition to reshape the EV charging experience into a lifestyle-centered ecosystem. With just one week of operations behind it, Tesla Diner has already become a flashpoint for discussion—a blend of nostalgia, innovation, and controversy that could define the next chapter in Tesla's brand journey.

Will Starbase, Texas, Be the Location of the Next Tesla Diner?
is an editor for Eater's Texas region. She lives in Dallas, where she's written about James Beard-celebrated and Michelin-recognized restaurants and she loves nachos. Following the opening of the first Tesla Diner in Los Angeles this week, it looks like Texas may be next. Or, at least, Texas is on the list. If you haven't heard about the Tesla Diner, it is part of Musk's plans to give Tesla drivers a spot to recharge both themselves and their cars. Eater LA described the look of the place as 'retro-futuristic' with 'a curved metal exterior that resembles a spaceship but falls closer to evoking the design sensibilities of an Apple store or Disneyland's Tomorrowland.' It has Superchargers galore, with 45-foot screens that play movies. It is open 24/7. Word on a Starbase location, which is deep in South Texas near the Gulf and the Mexico border, comes via a Twitter request to put a diner in the little city on the tip of the Texas border. While simply saying 'ok' to an idea might not feel like a firm affirmation, the blog Not a Tesla App points out that tourism around Starbase has grown thanks to fans who want to watch SpaceX launches. Musk's aeronautical company has purchased much of the land in the town, which measures a flimsy 1.5 square miles and largely houses company employees. A $22 million development for a community center is underway, and that's just part of a list of projects the city has undertaken, which, according to My San Antonio, also includes a $20 million school for kindergarten through 12th grade, a medical clinic, and a $2 million multi-family development. The spread at the Tesla Diner in Los Angeles. Matthew Kang Hamburgers, hot dogs, and all-day breakfast are on the menu at the Tesla Diner in Los Angeles, along with a note that the foods are 'responsibly sourced' and 'sustainable local products' are acquired within the range of a Tesla. In South Texas, that's just over 300 miles in a Tesla Model S. If the Starbase diner follows the same model, that means foods within range of San Antonio, down to the Monterrey and Tamaulipas areas of Mexico, would be covered. The LA diner also has technology that tracks Tesla drivers within a certain range and triggers cooks to begin their order when the drivers are 15 or 20 minutes away, reportedly guaranteeing fresh, hot food. Eater LA editors noted that the diner's biscuits and red gravy were 'fairly excellent' and called the tuna melt 'the best item on the menu.' It also features something called 'epic' bacon, which harkens to a directive from Musk that everything on the menu should be epic, or it shouldn't be on the menu at all. Elon Musk hints Tesla diners are coming to major cities worldwide but there's a catch
Elon Musk has once again stirred excitement with a new idea. This time, it's about expanding Tesla's unique retro-themed diner concept beyond Los Angeles. The first Tesla diner recently opened in Hollywood, and Musk now says more such outlets could show up in major cities across the world. However, this depends on how well the current one a post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk shared a video of the LA diner and hinted that Tesla could roll out similar diners globally, especially at key Supercharger locations. He described the space as a mix of food, entertainment, and car charging, all in one stop. But he made it clear: global expansion will only happen if the LA diner proves to be diner, built at a former Shakey's Pizza site on Santa Monica Boulevard, is designed to take visitors back in time with an American diner look from the past while blending in Tesla's modern technology. It features a rooftop seating area, 45-foot drive-in movie screens, and 80 Superchargers. Customers in Tesla cars can order food directly from their in-car display while charging, creating a seamless experience between dining and travel. This isn't a sudden idea. Musk first shared his plan back in 2018, where he talked about setting up a 'drive-in' with roller-skating servers and rock music at a Supercharger location in LA. Years later, that idea has finally taken the diner, the setting is far from ordinary. Tesla's humanoid robot, Optimus, was spotted serving popcorn to guests, giving the whole place a futuristic vibe. A popular tech YouTuber who visited the diner described it as a dream spot for technology News claims that the menu has been crafted by chef Eric Greenspan and includes both classic diner food and Tesla-themed items. Visitors can expect burgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken and waffles, and milkshakes — some served in Cybertruck-shaped boxes. The prices reportedly range between $4 and $15. Guests are welcomed by servers on roller skates offering ice cream samples, while drive-in screens play old shows like The Jetsons, adding a fun retro fans were seen lining up outside the location hours before it opened. In true Musk style, the gates opened at 4:20 PM, a time he has often used as a humorous everything looks promising, the big question now is whether Tesla will bring this experience to other countries. If the LA model does well, Tesla diners may one day become a familiar sight at EV charging spots across the world, maybe in India too. For now, the focus is on how the idea performs at home before it can travel globally.- Ends

Tesla Diner Could Spead Globally
Read the full story on The Auto Wire Tesla is yet again causing a stir in the automotive industry and beyond, this time for opening a diner in Los Angeles. On the surface, that might sound like a silly or trivial thing. But the reality is Tesla might have made a smart marketing move which will shift the industry have talked about doing EV cafes or diners where there are vehicle chargers and a place for humans to rest while waiting. A few places have established such things with varying success. But this is the first time we're aware of an automaker doing that. Instead of just a simple coffee shop with a few chargers, the Tesla Diner in Los Angeles has a number of Superchargers outside, plus a big movie screen with the sound piped to the Teslas' sound systems so you can sit back and watch a flick while recharging your ride, or even afterward. The diner itself has a mix of retro and futuristic flair. It serves up all the comfort foods you would expect, like burgers, fries, and shakes. But customers can order the food from their Tesla's touchscreen instead of going to the counter. There's also an Optimus robot standing behind a counter, serving up popcorn to anyone who hands it a bag. That's a fun little gimmick for young and old alike, adding to the novelty of the experience. In total, there are a whopping 80 Superchargers outside the Tesla Diner. Elon Musk says if the first one is a success, he wants to build more in every major city as well as at Supercharger sites on long-distance travel routes. Imagine coming across one of these things in the dusty desert of the Southwest where before there were hardly any good places to stop. Will this move sway more people to consider a Tesla? Will this make Tesla owners more dedicated to the brand? Will any other automakers try doing similar things?
