Lewis Capaldi opens up on 'heartwarming couple of weeks'

In a revealing interview, Lewis talks about his return to music, the fans' reaction, how performing at this year's Glastonbury Festival after a two-year break was 'the best day' of his life, and how his new chilled lifestyle helps his wellbeing. Lewis, 28, performed a secret set at Glastonbury last month, after taking a two-year break from the spotlight. He said: 'I'm not great at keeping secrets. I wanted it to be a surprise, but we had to start leaking it out a couple of weeks before because it would have been strange to come out to an empty field. "By that weekend it was the worst-kept secret. It was genuinely the best day of my life. I loved every moment of it. "Almost immediately, I was overcome with emotion and I started to well up. So I was like, 'Get it together', but then I turned around and looked at my drummer and he was in floods of tears. "It was weird, I knew it was going to be fine this time around. I had nerves and butterflies, but it wasn't the same as 2023 when I was so stressed and I knew something bad was going to happen. It was spectacular.' Speaking about his return to the spotlight and the reaction from fan, Lewis said: 'It's been such a heartwarming couple of weeks. You don't know if anyone's going to be interested after two years away. "People have been really kind. I was in the airport the other day and a lot of people were coming up to me and asking for pictures, then you had others going, 'Give him some space' and being protective. 'I can't overstate the importance of the last two years, getting the chance to take time off.' After two years out of the spotlight, he recently returned with the release of his new single, 'Survive'. Speaking about the song, Lewis said: 'I'm trying to write songs for myself these days and if other people find something in it, that's amazing for them. "I've written a lot of songs about my mental health and how it was debilitating me at certain points in my life, but I wanted to write something about overcoming it. "People have come up to me and been really complimentary about the song, telling me how it's helped them and how they relate to it. 'Usually if I'd just released a single, I'd be doing so much more promotion and social media, but I'm really trying to take days off where I can. "I'm putting emphasis on not overdoing it. With 'Survive' I really wanted to let the song do the talking. "People want to know where I've been and how things are going, but I have to take my time out and chill.' Lewis's playlist features songs by acts including The 1975, Fontaines D.C., Gracie Abrams, Lana Del Rey and The Beatles. Lewis revealed how he's trying to implement a more 'chilled out' lifestyle: 'I use music in meditation a lot - ambient music, not what I usually listen to. "But when I'm going to bed, I'll listen to a lot of green noise and rain noises, especially when I'm trying to get to sleep, to soothe me … Slowing down and being outside help. "I like meditation, and I also go to therapy, which has really helped me with stress. "I'm not someone who enjoys going for long walks or spending a ton of time outside, but I force myself to do it these days because the effect it has on my mood and my stress levels is just mind-blowing. "I think for a long time I was either working or going to the pub, and these days, I spend a lot more time with friends in a way that isn't just going out. "Doing wholesome things with friends is always a nice change … Get outside, go to therapy, do some meditation and hang out with people.' He said: 'If I'm going to fall asleep, especially on a plane, I put on Eminem because I feel like it really puts me at ease. "I listen to a lot of the older stuff like The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show - for some reason it lulls me into a delightful little sleep, or I'll put on some of my own demos, which also really knock me out!' Lewis Capaldi's drummer left 'in floods of tears' after his Glastonbury comeback

Singer Lewis Capaldi made a huge return to the spotlight last month as he performed a secret set at Glastonbury after taking two years away from music for his health Lewis Capaldi has revealed his drummer was left in tears after he made his sensational return to Glastonbury. The chart-topping singer, 28, performed a secret set at Worthy Farm this year, which came two years on from him struggling with Tourettes at the festival. ‌ He made a huge comeback for a 35-minute show on the iconic Pyramid Stage, marking his return to performing after a two year break. Lewis confessed he had planned to quit music all together despite his huge success after his show at Glastonbury in 2023. ‌ In a change of heart, Lewis agreed to head back to the world famous festival and despite it being a secret set, he told his fans in advance as he was worried nobody would turn up. ‌ 'I'm not great at keeping secrets, I wanted it to be a surprise, but we had to start leaking it out a couple of weeks before because it would have been strange to come out to an empty field," he confessed on the Apple Music's Music That Soothes Me series. 'By that weekend it was the worst-kept secret. It was genuinely the best day of my life, I loved every moment of it." Revealing just how emotional the moment was for him, Lewis added: 'Almost immediately, I was overcome with emotion and I started to well up, so I was like, 'get it together', but then I turned around and looked at my drummer, and he was in floods of tears. ‌ 'It was weird, I knew it was going to be fine this time around. I had nerves and butterflies, but it wasn't the same as 2023 when I was so stressed and I knew something bad was going to happen. It was spectacular.' While on the iconic stage, Lewis performed his new tune titled Survive. The deeply personal track about his mental health struggles and recovery sees the singer urge fans to access the same type of support he had on his road to recovery. Speaking of his 2023 Pyramid Stage performance, Lewis said: "I was on complete autopilot. I watch it back and I feel sad. I wasn't taking anything in." ‌ He thanked those helping him through it, saying they "made it a much less embarrassing moment". Lewis added: "The thing that I wanted to do the most has made me feel the worst. It was like a weird mix of emotions." He went on on say that while others see the clip from the day as uplifting as the crowd helped him through, he sees it as him "just having literally the worst moment of his life". In the chat with BetterHelp, filmed days before his surprise return, Lewis added how he thought he was "done indefinitely" with the music industry. He said: "I didn't take a break to just focus on getting better, I took a break because I needed a break and to sort of like release the pressure valve a little bit." Lewis added: "Therapy has been a massive part of the reason why I'm able to be a musician again. This feels such a positive way to help others access the type of support I needed.'

The 28-year-old performed a 35-minute surprise performance on the Pyramid stage, having taken a two-year break from performing after his last appearance at the Somerset festival, and revealed he had to leak his own secret set after he was worried people would not turn up. Capaldi said: 'I'm not great at keeping secrets, I wanted it to be a surprise, but we had to start leaking it out a couple of weeks before because it would have been strange to come out to an empty field. Capaldi was speaking as part of the launch of Apple Music's Music That Soothes Me series of curated playlists, with the singer himself putting together a track list including the likes of Fontaines DC, Lana Del Rey and The 1975. The series, which features music intended to help listeners relax and unwind, also features playlists curated by Renee Rapp and Bring Me The Horizon. Speaking about how he relaxes, the Scottish singer said: 'I use music in meditation a lot – ambient music, not what I usually listen to. The singer says he plays the 'older' work of rapper Eminem and his own demos to relax, joking that the latter 'really knocks me out'. Capaldi recently said he had the 'most incredible, surreal feeling' after his 17-date UK and Ireland comeback tour sold out. During the 2025 Glastonbury show, Capaldi performed his new track Survive, which has since gone to number one on the singles chart, and ended his performance with Someone You Loved, the track that Glastonbury crowds helped him to sing when he struggled with his Tourette symptoms in 2023. Tourette syndrome causes sudden, repetitive sounds or movements and while there is no cure, treatment can help manage the tics, according to the NHS website. Prior to the festival slot, the Glaswegian star performed a number of secret gigs and guest appearances, saying in an interview with therapy charity BetterHelp that he felt a 'rush of adrenaline' before managing to calm himself before his first warm-up gig in Edinburgh. Capaldi has had six UK number one singles, including Before You Go, Pointless and Wish You The Best. He has also seen both of his studio albums reach number one in the UK albums chart.

Lewis Capaldi fronts HeyDude's latest "bold" campaign

HeyDude's newest global ambassador is none other that Lewis Capaldi and he's fronting the label's latest campaign that it said is its 'biggest and boldest' so far. It's good timing with Capaldi fresh from his Glastonbury Festival comeback, the release of his chart-topping single 'Survive' and gearing up for a sellout tour. The new HeyDude Country campaign from the global casual footwear brand makes the most of that. It kicks off on Tuesday with an exclusive short film that offers an intimate look at his journey as an artist, alongside fellow global ambassador Sydney Sweeney. The campaign launch follows the label's 'explosive growth in the US, where it's quickly becoming a cultural favourite among Gen Z' and the link-up with the star is an 'important milestone for the brand as it looks to expand HeyDude Country internationally, with dedicated focus in the UK'. There will be an official launch event set to take place in Capaldi's hometown of Glasgow and the international focus will continue as the campaign rolls out across Europe 'with a series of unexpected brand-inspired experimental moments and pop-up activations'. The brand said the campaign captures his 'signature blend of humour, honesty and heart. A natural fit for the HeyDude mindset, Capaldi embodies a lifestyle where comfort goes beyond what you wear — it's about confidence, ease and being unapologetically yourself. HeyDude Country isn't a place, it's a headspace. A mindset rooted in self-expression, authenticity and showing up as you are. The campaign celebrates a new kind of cultural moment, where how you feel matters just as much as how you look'. It added that the campaign 'will capture the spirit of the brand's growing global fanbase and invite new fans to experience the brand through expansive storytelling and in-real-life moments, with the goal of building community and connectivity, and encouraging fans to be their most authentic selves'. The company also said: 'From navigating the pressures of fame to reconnecting with what truly matters, the film captures personal reflections, candid moments and the humour that's made him a fan favourite.' And SVP/GM of HeyDude International, Michael Anthes, added: 'Lewis is the perfect fit… he embodies the spirit of our brand like no other. He's authentic, effortlessly relatable, and lives the comfort-first lifestyle we celebrate.'

Sisters Rachael Gillespie, 22, and Nicole , 24, from Edinburgh, queued from 7am and were the first through the door to claim the tickets. Rachael said: 'We're so happy to have won the tickets. We got here super early because we missed out on both pre-sale and general sale. 'It was an amazing day and we made friends with plenty of other Lewis Capaldi fans.' Nicole added: 'We were devastated when we missed out on tickets so this is the most amazing feeling.' Greggs had 125 pairs of tickets on offer - with 25 each to be won at events in Glasgow, Salford, London, Birmingham and Sheffield. Some punters looked the spitting image of the chart-topper - who stormed back to number one with new single Survive this month after bravely battling back from the health issues that forced him to end his Glastonbury gig early two years ago. Capaldi is a well known fan of Greggs and shocked fans in 2019 when he got behind the counter at a Middlesbrough outlet wearing the full uniform, including hairnet, while claiming to be on work experience. Ruth Johnston, 26, and Emily Philp, 21, from Howwood, made their own body suits for the occassion and led singalongs as they got into character. Emily said: 'We're both massive fans. I met him once at a signing as well. Lewis Capaldi opens up about his return to the Glastonbury stage "I love his music and everything about him - especially how down to earth he is.' Ruth added: 'I think we were number 30,000 in the queue when we tried to get tickets so this was the only way. 'We knew we had to go all out and I think we were able to draw on the confidence of Lewis Capaldi by dressing up as him.' Our man gets his Lewis look on BY COLAN LAMONT LEWIS Capaldi has a hit song called Grace - but I showed anything but trying to dress up as the superstar. While fans made getting ready for the Greggs lookalike contest look like a piece of cake, I was still busy learning how stop the towel on my head from falling off. Thankfully, I was in the one spot in Glasgow where looking like I'd just got out of the shower wasn't an issue. I was very impressed by the lengths some punters had gone to in an effort to win tickets for his gigs. If I get the opportunity to cosplay Capaldi again, I hope I'll look like less of a pie in the process. Gran Heather Todd, 67, from Fauldhouse, even got caught up in the excitement by recreating Capaldi's iconic towel pose. The pensioner is a big fan and wanted to do whatever it too to help her grandaughter Mollie and her friend Amie Gibb, both 13, go to their dream gig. She said: 'It was good fun and I was happy to help the girls win tickets to see their favourite singer.'
