Now, police to take custody of Hagawane brothers for fraudulently obtaining gun licences
Pune city police have once again arrested Sushil Hagawane, brother-in-law of dowry death victim Vaishnavi Hagawane, for allegedly obtaining a gun licence fraudulently. Deputy Commissioner of Police Sambhaji Kadam said a team from Kothrud police station has taken Sushil Hagawane into custody on Monday and he would be produced before a court on Tuesday. His custody would be sought for further investigation. Kadam said that after court's order, the police would also be taking into custody Vaishnavi's husband Shashank Hagwane and another accused Nilesh Chavan on Tuesday in connection with the FIRs lodged against the duo at the Warje police station. Vaishnavi had allegedly died by suicide at her in-laws' house in Bhukum in the Mulshi taluka of the Pune district on May 16. Next day, her father Anil Sahebrao Kaspate, 51, a resident of Wakad, had lodged an FIR against her husband and in-laws at the Bavdhan Police Station in Pimpri Chinchwad. During investigation, the police arrested Vaishnavi's husband, Shashank, 27, father-in-law and expelled Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Rajendra, 57, mother-in-law Lata, 54, sister-in-law Karishma, 31, and brother-in-law Sushil, 27, all residents of Bhukum in Mulshi, in this case. Also, three others were arrested for helping Rajendra and Sushil Hagawane, while they were on the run. Meanwhile, on May 22, an FIR was lodged against Karishma's friend Nilesh Chavan, at the Warje police station in Pune city, for allegedly threatening the members of Kaspate family, when they had been to his residence for taking custody of a deceased Vaishnavi's baby boy on May 20. He was booked in this case under relevant sections of BNS and Indian Arms Act. Police said that Vaishnavi's ten-month-old baby boy was allegedly in illegal custody of Nilesh Chavan. The Kaspate family had alleged that when they went to take the baby from his house in Karve Nagar, he allegedly threatened them at gunpoint. The baby was handed over safely to Kaspate family on May 22. Meanwhile, Chavan escaped, but he was nabbed at Sunauli in Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh, located on India–Nepal border by a team of Pimpri Chinchwad police, on May 30. Chavan was arrested in the Vaishnavi Hagawane dowry death case on charges of allegedly causing harm to her tenth month old baby boy. Now, the Pune city police would be arresting him in the offence lodged at Warje police station. Police said he had procured a gun licence and a process was initiated to cancel it. Also, a police probe revealed that Shashank and Sushil Hagawane, who were residing in the jurisdiction of Pune rural police, had obtained licences from Pune city police, by allegedly submitting documents showing them as residents of Warje and Kothrud area. So, on May 29, separate FIRs were lodged against them at the Warje and Kothrud police stations in Pune city, for 'fraudulent representation' of their address by 'deceptive means' for taking gun licences.
