Andrew Redmayne's deal to return to Central Coast Mariners now uncertain
Former Socceroos goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne's hopes of rejoining Central Coast Mariners are in jeopardy after an apparent about-face from club owner and chairman Mike Charlesworth. It was announced in April that veteran gloveman Redmayne was parting ways with Sydney FC at the end of the 2024-25 A-League season after eight years with the Sky Blues, having lost his first-team place to Harrison Devenish-Meares. It's understood that soon after the announcement, 36-year-old Redmayne signed a contract with the Mariners, the club where he started his A-League career as a teenager in 2008. Sources close to the cash-strapped Mariners say that Charlesworth approved the deal. However, it now believed that as part of the club's current freeze on signing players, Charlesworth has back-tracked on bringing Redmayne back to Gosford, potentially leaving the experienced gloveman in limbo. A potential lifeline looms for Redmayne if English Championship club Queens Park Rangers commit to buying the Mariners. A decision is expected soon from QPR, although it's understood there is also a consortium of Australian businessmen interested in purchasing a stake in the Mariners on the proviso that Charlesworth retains 40 per cent of the club ownership. Meanwhile, star defender Brian Kaltak, whose departure from the Mariners was confirmed on Thursday, has joined Perth Glory on a multi-year deal. The 31-year-old Vanuatu international, who won two A-League championships and an AFC Cup during his three seasons with Central Coast, said it was 'time to try something new'. 'This a new chapter for me and I'm excited for it,' Kaltak said. 'This move will be good for me and good for my football.' In other A-League news, Macarthur FC has announced the departure of four players – left-back Ivan Vujica, right-back Yianni Nicolaou, and midfielders Danny De Silva and Peter Makrillos.

Aussie Olympic cult hero Raygun dazzles as she makes surprise appearance at glamorous sports ball
Australian breaking cult hero made a surprise appearance at Sydney FC's end-of-season awards ball. The football club hosted its annual Sky Blue Ball at the luxurious Le Montage venue in Lillyfield on Wednesday night. Footy stars from both the men's, women's and powerchair sides dazzled as they took to the blue carpet for the event. It was a great evening for 17-year-old rising star Indiana Dos Santos, who picked up both the Members' Player of the Year award and the Young Player of the Year award, having scored three goals across 22 appearances for the Women's side this season. She was joined by Wataru Kamijo, who picked up the men's Young Player of the Year award, while Adrian Segecic was also voted as the Members' Player of the Year after the winger scored 13 goals in 24 appearances for the men's A-League side and ranked joint-top of the men's Golden Boot race. Top honours were awarded to Nat Tobin, who has returned from injury this season to enjoy an epic campaign, culminating in her claiming the club's Women's Player of the Year award. Segecic, found himself back on the stage again not long later, with the 21-year-old picking up the Men's Player of the Year award, having been loaned out to Dutch second-tier side FC Dordrecht last season. Actress Emily Symons, who starred in Home and Away and Emmerdale, was also seen at the event and looked elegant as walked up the blue carpet while wearing a black gown. Olympic star Rachel 'Raygun' Gunn, meanwhile, took to Instagram to publish a picture of herself and her husband and coach Samuel Free, looking very glam inside the venue. The breaking sensation, who made headlines at the 2024 Paris Olympics, donned a stunning gown as she posed for a snap next to Free, who wore a suave tuxedo complete with a black bowtie. She captioned the photo 'Sky Blue Ball' adding a light-blue 'love-heart' emoji. It comes after a musical inspired by Raygun and written by comedian Stephanie Boradbridge sold out. The musical is set to be hosted in venues around Australia and was initially put on hold after the Olympian's lawyers had begun an intellectual property dispute with the show's organisers. The musical had depicted her journey at the Olympic Games last year and stirred a storm of criticism after Raygun's legal counsel sent a letter to the organisers asking them to stop the show. However, Raygun and Broadbridge appeared to have resolved the dispute, with the star confirming that the musical would go ahead, with multiple changes, including a new poster. Raygun later clarified that she had not sought any legal fees from the show. Raygun rose to fame in 2024 for her performances at the Paris Olympics. The dancer, who is a university lecturer at Macquarie University, sent social media into meltdown after she was seen hopping around like a kangaroo while wearing a green and gold tracksuit. In the months that followed the Olympics, Raygun has also been seen spending time with A-listers including Boy George and Richard Branson - while Adele hailed her in the middle of one of the pop singer's concerts.

World Cup hero Cortnee Vine 'on the radar' for Matildas recall
New Matildas coach Joe Montemurro has hinted Women's World Cup hero Cortnee Vine may be in line for a recall to the national squad. Winger Vine catapulted to stardom when she scored the winning spot-kick in the Matildas' epic penalty shootout win over France at the 2023 World Cup. Back then, Vine was also lighting up A-League Women with Sydney FC. But between taking a mental health break, injuries and a difficult start to life in the NWSL with North Carolina Courage, the 27-year-old has not played for the Matildas since the Paris Olympics. Montemurro plans to reach out to Vine, along with other players in the wider Matildas selection frame. "Cortnee's definitely on the radar," he said. "We'll get to the heart of getting her back in the fray and hopefully we can build her into the Asian Cup also." Montemurro watched on in Canberra on Monday night as an array of other attackers made their own cases ahead of the Asian Cup. Amy Sayer scored a well-taken brace in the 4-1 win over Argentina. Kahli Johnson notched a goal and an assist across her first two matches, while A-League Women Golden Boot winner Holly McNamara is also highly rated. "It's interesting that everyone's talking about the next cycle and the aging squad," Montemurro said. Montemurro has been helped by Tom Sermanni testing and developing players during his stint as interim coach. "It's actually made my job a little bit easier in terms of profiling players and understanding what level some of the players are at and then thinking about how we can marry the two," he said. Montemurro will be in charge of the Matildas for their upcoming friendlies against Slovenia and Panama in Perth. AAP
