"He's been involved with Brighton in pre-season, and we'll have to see in training where he's at," Sheehan said. "We might have to integrate him into it. "But I imagine he could come into the squad on Saturday." Article continues below Kone joins QPR Former Swansea City transfer target Richard Kone has completed a move to Queens Park Rangers for an undisclosed fee. Sources close to negotiations claimed the 22-year-old was the subject of two failed bids from the Swans earlier in the summer, while Preston North End and Toulouse were also believed to have had bids knocked back. Swansea were initially expected to return with a third bid, but substantially cooled their interest in search of other targets. ‌ Leicester City were another side to admire the Ivorian, but failed to firm up their interest with a bid, opening the door for a move to Loftus Road. "It's an amazing feeling, I'm really glad to join an amazing team, a great club. I can't wait to get started," Kone told the club's website. "I made my mind when the opportunity comes, I'll be ready. I'll be ready to take it. By God's grace, it took the time that it took, four years, and when the time was right, I did take my chances and here I am." ‌ 'No offer' for Sylla amid bizarre scandal Swansea City are reportedly yet to make a concrete offer for alleged target Moussa Sylla. Reports in France claim Swansea, Sevilla, Valencia, and Angers have all expressed an interest in the Schalke forward, but German publication Bild says there's currently nothing on the table. The same publication is also tracking a bizarre scandal involving the 25-year-old and his dog. ‌ It's claimed Sylla left his Staffordshire Bull Terrier, 'Ghost', with a dog-sitter at the Albert Schweitzer Animal Shelter in Essen earlier this month, and has since refused to take the dog back, allegedly stating he "unfortunately no longer had any use" for it. Sylla has vehemently denied those allegations, and hit back with a statement through French lawyer Dylan Bourkab. "For several days, Mr. Moussa Sylla and his family have been the target of a media campaign based on false, distorted and out-of-context information," the statement read. Livingston make Mohamed Sylla their seventh summer signing

Livingston have announced the signing of Mohamed Sylla as David Martindale continues his squad revamp for the team's return to the Premiership. Sylla has signed a three-year-deal with the Lions after leaving Dundee at the end of last season. The 31-year-old spent two seasons at Dens Park making 67 appearances in dark blue. He'll now look to aid Livingston as they aim to make an impact on the top flight after earning promotion through the play-offs last season. EXCLUSIVE: Two stars to depart Dundee as Dark Blues remain in contract talks with four more

Mo Sylla and Antonio Portales have played their last games for Dundee. The club, though, remain in contract discussions with four other players, including Josh Mulligan. A number of contracts are expiring this week and Courier Sport understands talks are continuing over extensions. Among those who are departing include Sylla and Portales, with both players moving on to new clubs. Defensive midfielder Sylla was a fan favourite at Dens Park while Mexican defender Portales impressed in his two years in dark blue. Scott Fraser, meanwhile, hasn't been offered an extension to his one-year contract following an injury-hit campaign. Fraser exclusively told Courier Sport this week he may still join the Dark Blues for pre-season in hope of earning a fresh deal. But there are also offers from 'five or six' others as he bids to prove his fitness ahead of next season. His focus right now is on recovering from surgery to be ready for pre-season. After unveiling their new coaching team headed up by Steven Pressley, Dundee are hoping to convince four of their out-of-contract stars to stick around. Courier Sport revealed an offer had been made to skipper Joe Shaughnessy to retain his services. Talks are also continuing with Scott Tiffoney, Charlie Reilly and Josh Mulligan. Dundee are hopeful of convincing academy graduate Mulligan to stay but the 22-year-old has plenty of good options this summer. League One sides Cardiff City and Plymouth Argyle have been linked with a move for the Scotland U/21 international alongside Championship Oxford United. Hull City, Blackburn and West Bromwich Albion have also been credited with interest, as have League Two Salford City. Decisions on these extensions are expected within the next week with Dundee players reporting back for pre-season training in a seven days' time.

Trial begins for Maryland man accused of dismembering second-grade teacher

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (DC News Now) – Tuesday, in Prince George's County, opening arguments began in the trial of Harold Landon III, a Maryland man accused of murdering and dismembering second-grade teacher Mariame Torre Sylla in 2023. Sylla went for an evening walk in a park near her apartment before disappearing in late July. Searches went on for the teacher until her body was later found dismembered near a pond in Clinton. Prince George's County Police worked with Greenbelt Police to discover a torso at a pond in Clinton. A test later found that the torso was Sylla's. PREVIOUS COVERAGE: Charging documents outline disturbing details of murder of beloved Greenbelt teacher Police then used witnesses and surveillance in the area to find a white Chevy Silverado in the area around the time the body was discarded. That truck belonged to Landon, who also lived in the same neighborhood and was, according to the prosecution, seen at the same park where Sylla was last seen. In the opening statements, State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy described Sylla as a loving teacher and mother. Prosecutors brought in witness testimony and pictures of the scene, including photos of the dismemberment. State prosecutors also say they have video and DNA evidence linking Landon and Sylla, but Landon's defense says the state won't provide a motive. Sylla taught at Dora Kennedy French Immersion School, a community that is hoping for justice for their beloved teacher. 'Terrible,' said parent Noura Estatie. 'Teachers, they take care of our kids…I hope you know, her family gets [the] justice that they seek.' The trial is expected to go into next week. This case marks Braveboy's last trial as state attorney before she transitions to county executive. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Guinea's military government cancels 129 mining exploration permits

Guinea's military government has cancelled 129 exploration permits in an effort to consolidate control of its mining resources, according to a report by Reuters, citing sources. This decision is part of the nation's ongoing strategy to optimise the use of its mineral assets and attract new investment. The Ministry of Mines has digitised the permit system to enhance oversight, according to a senior official, who spoke to the news agency on the condition of anonymity. The official stated: "We have simplified it by digitising the whole system, which can now be better controlled." The impact of the cancellation on significant investments remains unclear. Most of the revoked permits were related to gold exploration and the assets have since reverted to state ownership, according to a second official from the Guinean ministry. Earlier this month, Guinea retracted 51 mining licences for underutilisation or inactivity, involving bauxite, gold, diamond, graphite and iron concessions. The country, which boasts the world's largest bauxite reserves and is a key supplier to China, previously moved to withdraw bauxite licences from Kebo Energy and Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), according to a separate Reuters report. The crackdown on foreign miners is not unique to Guinea, as other military-led nations in the region, including Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso, are also seeking to maximise revenue from their mineral sectors. EGA's subsidiary, Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC), has been particularly affected, amassing nearly two million tonnes of bauxite due to a suspension of operations since last year. The Guinean Government's aggressive stance, including the potential withdrawal of EGA's mining licence over an unfulfilled commitment to build an alumina refinery, highlights the push for increased benefits from the country's natural resources. GAC's operations have been halted since December 2024, resulting in substantial financial losses, according to a company statement. Guinea's Mines Minister Bouna Sylla responded to the situation, emphasising the nation's dedication to working with investors that honour their contractual commitments. Sylla was quoted by the news agency as saying: 'This process will continue rigorously, respecting the current legal framework while ensuring the legitimate interests of all stakeholders, including Guinean investors.' GAC, contesting the claims of unmet obligations, cited significant challenges in realising an alumina refinery project in Guinea. The company has communicated these difficulties to the Guinean authorities, pointing to economic, technical and environmental hurdles. "Guinea's military government cancels 129 mining exploration permits" was originally created and published by Mining Technology, a GlobalData owned brand.
