Warm-up venues confirmed for ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026

Dubai [UAE], July 10 (ANI): Cardiff's Sophia Gardens, Derby County Ground and Loughborough University will all host warm-up fixtures ahead of the 2026 edition of the Women's T20 World Cup that commences in Birmingham on June 12, as per the official website of the International Cricket Council (ICC). While the exact details of the warm-up fixtures are yet to be released, the three venues - that are rich in cricketing pedigree and have played a major role in enhancing the profile of women's cricket in recent times - will all host matches prior to the 10th edition of the T20 World Cup that will be hosted by England and Wales next year. Eight of the 12 teams that will compete in the expanded T20 World Cup have already been determined, with the final four sides to be locked in once the Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier has been completed early next year. The 12 sides will battle it out in 33 matches across 24 days and at seven venues in England and Wales in 2026 and all teams will be aiming to match the exploits of New Zealand when the White Ferns won their first T20 World Cup title in Dubai last year. The fixtures and the groups for the T20 World Cup were revealed last month, with England to host Sri Lanka in the tournament opener in Birmingham on June 12 ahead of the final at Lord's on July 5. Group 1 features multiple-time champions Australia, 2024 finalists South Africa, Asian heavyweights India and Pakistan, along with two teams from the Global Qualifier. Group 2 includes hosts England, defending champions New Zealand, Sri Lanka, former winners West Indies and the other two teams from the Global Qualifier. The seven venues that will be used during the event are Edgbaston, Hampshire Bowl, Headingley, Old Trafford, The Oval, Bristol County Ground and Lord's. (ANI)

T20 World Cup Qualifier: Italy shock Scotland, close in on maiden spot in extravaganza in India, Sri Lanka

Italy cricket team celebrate after beating Scotland in the T20 World Cup Qualifier for European continent. (Image: X) Italy moved closer to qualifying for their first-ever ICC Men's T20 World Cup after securing a 12-run victory over Scotland in the Europe Regional Final. The win keeps Italy at the top of the standings with a net run rate of 1.722, positioning them favourably for qualification to the 2026 T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka. The Italian team, led by former Australian Test player Joe Burns , now needs either a victory over the Netherlands in their final match on Friday or a narrow loss combined with Jersey and Scotland failing to win their respective matches by significant margins. Italy's position in the tournament standings shows them well ahead of third-placed Jersey (0.430) and fourth-placed Scotland (-0.150) in terms of net run rate, giving them a considerable advantage heading into the final matches. "I am really proud of the boys for this moment," Burns said. "To come and beat Scotland, who are a fantastic team, is a nice reward for sacrifices our players, staff and federation have made." "Hopefully this is the stepping stone for a lot to come. It's a very emotional group at the moment. Being on the verge of a World Cup? It's very surreal." Italy also hold a strategic advantage in the tournament schedule, as their match against the Netherlands is the final game of the tournament, taking place after the Jersey-Scotland contest. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Nhà container vận chuyển thực sự có giá bao nhiêu? - Xem giá Shipping Container Homes Tìm hiểu thêm Undo This scheduling allows Italy to know exactly what they need to achieve in their match against the Dutch. The situation requires Jersey and Scotland to adopt aggressive approaches in their earlier match to improve their net run rates and maintain their qualification hopes. Scotland's captain Richie Berrington acknowledged his team's disappointing performance against Italy while maintaining hope for qualification. "We kept ourselves in it but just didn't manage to execute at the end," he said. "A lot of the credit has to go to Italy, who out-skilled us with the ball in those conditions." "Obviously today's a tough one, but it's important we learn what we can from this game. We will be looking to come back strong." "We have to focus on coming back on Friday and looking to win that game then the rest takes of itself." Catch Manika Batra's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 3. Watch Here!

Thailand, Nepal progress to Global Qualifier for ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026

New Delhi [India] May 20 (ANI): Asia's entrants for the upcoming 2026 ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier have been locked in, with victories in the final phase of regional qualifying ensuring that Thailand and Nepal go through, according to the ICC. The teams were featured in a Super Three contest along with the UAE, which would've seen the top two sides in the group make it to the Global Qualifier. Nepal completed the chase of UAE's 114 in the final over to seal their progress on Monday, joining Thailand and securing their path to the next round. After electing to field against the UAE in Bangkok, the Nepal side kept a check on the Emirati scoring rate, and despite Esha Oza's patient 39, the Middle East side could reach only 114/7 in the 20-over mark. Manisha Upadhyay starred with 4/20 with the ball. Nepal were clinical with the willow, and never lost sight of the target despite setbacks. Their five-wicket win was sealed in the 20th over, with skipper Indu Barma (30) and Rubina Chhetry (23) making important contributions. Naruemol Chaiwai's side earlier defeated the Emiratis in action on Sunday. With Thailand's match against Nepal the only remaining fixture, neither side can be overtaken on the points tally. Thailand's win over the UAE was a dominant display. The South-East Asian side posted 144/5 in the first innings on the back of Natthakan Chantham's (46* from 20) blazing outing and Nattaya Boochatham's (49 from 48) steady hand. The UAE had lost Esha Oza early and were never in contention to chase thereafter, finishing at 90/5 in their quota of overs. The pair joins Bangladesh and Scotland at the Global Qualifier, who made it to the event via their participation in the last ICC Women's T20 World Cup, and the United States, which claimed victory in the Americas Qualifier, held in Argentina back in March. Two Global Qualifier spots are available through both upcoming Europe and Africa Qualifiers, with one place up for grabs in East Asia-Pacific action. The top four teams at the Global Qualifier will progress to the marquee tournament to be held in England and Wales, with the hosts joined by Australia, India, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
