Brockton's AJ Dybantsa and BYU will play UConn at TD Garden in Hall of Fame Series

AJ Dybantsa on his decision to go to BYU, life as projected No. 1 pick in NBA Draft AJ Dybantsa on his decision to go to BYU, life as projected No. 1 pick in NBA Draft AJ Dybantsa on his decision to go to BYU, life as projected No. 1 pick in NBA Draft AJ Dybantsa, a Brockton native and this year's No. 1 recruit in college basketball, will get to play in front of a Boston crowd during the 2025 NCAA season. Dybantsa and the BYU Cougars will square off against the UConn Huskies at TD Garden this November. BYU and UConn will take over the home of the Boston Celtics on Nov. 15 for a showcase showdown, the two schools announced Thursday. The game is part of the Hall of Fame Series, and will feature two teams expected to be among the best squads in college ball in 2025. AJ Dybantsa returning to Boston Dybantsa was born in Brockton but played just one season of high school ball locally. He played his freshman year at St. Sebastian's in Needham before he transferred to Prolific Prep in California -- one of the country's top basketball academies. Dybantsa finished off his high school career at Utah Prep Academy. It was with Utah Prep that Dybantsa returned to Boston last November, when he scored 18 points and had six rebounds in a 79-71 win over Highland School of Virginia at Emmanuel College. Dybantsa was the top high school recruit last year, and announced he'd be playing his college ball at BYU on ESPN's First Take in December. There will be plenty of hype around Dybantsa throughout what will probably be his lone season at BYU. The 6-foot-9 forward is seen as the likely No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, though a lot can change throughout a college basketball season. Alex Karaban playing in front of home crowd too While Dybantsa will get the bulk of the attention come November, the game will also be a homecoming for UConn forward Alex Karaban. The Southborough native played at Algonquin Regional in Northborough and New Hampton School in New Hampshire before wrapping up his high school career at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. He was a four-star recruit when he committed to UConn, and played a critical role on the Huskies teams that won back-to-back NCAA titles in 2023 and 2024. This November's matchup at TD Garden will be just the second time BYU and UConn have played each other. The two schools first matched up in the second round of the 2003 NCAA Tournament, which the 5-seeded UConn won, 58-53.

Boston Celtics superfans not giving up, hoping for a Game 7 at the Garden

Don't count them out! The Boston Celtics are back after staving off elimination against the New York Knicks in Game 5 of this playoff series. Bell Biv DeVoe's Michael Bivins was impressed by the team's performance given that they're down Jayson Tatum. "We've got Boston resilience" "A lot of players who normally don't play during the game at that time really contributed. We really saw what the Celtics were made of yesterday. I was rooting for them," Bivins said. "I think what breeds champions is when you feel like your back is against the wall." He's no stranger to courtside at the TD Garden – hyping up the crowd for his hometown team. "Listen, we're down, but we're not out," Bivins said. "We've got Boston resilience. We're all about the green. Make it do what it do!" From the parquet floor to Section 315 high up in the balcony, you'll find Timmy Gorham. He's been a season ticketholder for nearly 20 years. "I was there for the 2008 championship and the 2024 championship and I also had to watch Kris Humphries play basketball too," he joked. Not losing hope in the Celtics Gorham said Game 5 was a tough one to watch. "To start the game, everyone was nervous. You felt like everyone was still sad about the Tatum injury," Gorham explained. But seeing the Celtics momentum was electric, even from up in the nosebleeds. "The Knicks fans were very loud but then as the game went on and the Celtics built their lead, it was like everything was back to normal," Gorham told WBZ-TV. "It was our building, our series to win so that was pretty cool." Not cracking under pressure. Bivins said this is what Boston sports is all about. "One man down but the whole squad is here to stand up. And we represent the city," Bivins told WBZ-TV. "We represent the championship spirit."

Inside Tatum's struggles

BOSTON — What would Jayson Tatum have said? How would he have explained his turnover with two seconds left in the Boston Celtics' 91-90 Game 2 loss to the New York Knicks? How would he have reacted after one of the worst postseason outings of his career, which ended with a 1-of-5 fourth quarter during his team's second straight second-half collapse? Would Tatum have projected confidence? Would he have sounded defeated? Would he have waved aside his struggles and set a defiant tone for the rest of the second-round series? Nobody knows for sure because a fire alarm went off inside TD Garden before Tatum could deliver his postgame interview Wednesday night. An arena employee rushed into the news conference room to alert the media that everyone needed to evacuate the building. Fire trucks were stationed near an exit on a side street off Causeway as the issue was investigated. By the time writers were allowed back into TD Garden, the Celtics had called off Tatum's usual media availability. It didn't take an obnoxious ringing noise to know that flames were coming for Boston's season. That, even if the building wasn't in danger of burning down, the Celtics were inhaling smoke and blistering from the heat of another Knicks comeback. Up 20. At home. In the second half. For the second game in a row. And again the Celtics couldn't hold onto their lead. 'It's inexcusable,' said Jaylen Brown. 'But we're going to learn from it. We're going to respond.' Read more on Tatum and the Celtics below. GO FURTHER Jayson Tatum needs to save Celtics from fire after another collapse against Knicks
