Govt bid to loot temple lands: YSRCP

Guntur: YSRCP senior leader and former MLA Malladi Vishnu vehemently condemned the TDP-led coalition government's move to allocate temple lands without transparent public auctions, as outlined in GO Ms No 139, issued on May 2, this year. In a statement released to media, he described the order, which amends the Andhra Pradesh Charitable and Hindu Religious Institutions and Endowments Immovable Properties and Other Rights Leases and Licenses Rules, 2003, as a 'sinister attempt' to plunder the sacred assets of Andhra Pradesh's temples. He highlighted that the Endowments Department manages 4.67 lakh acres of temple lands, a sacred trust meant to sustain religious institutions. He criticised the TDP government, led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, for permitting the leasing of these lands to select organisations under the pretext of 'charitable activities' for up to 33 years at nominal rates, bypassing mandatory public auctions. He stressed that this move violates High Court and Supreme Court rulings, which mandate auctions for leasing temple lands and require prior court approval for any transfers.

MDU union's appeal to Jagan on doorstep ration delivery

: The Andhra Pradesh Mobile Dispensing Units (MDU) Union has appealed to former Chief Minister and YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to reinstate the doorstep ration delivery system after the YSRCP returns to power. The TDP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government's decision to scrap the service from June 1 left over 18,000 MDU families jobless, the union members said and submitted a petition highlighting their plight and seeking the revival of the scheme. The doorstep delivery system, introduced under Mr. Jagan's leadership, ensured access to rations for the disabled, elderly, and remote tribal communities, while providing livelihoods to 9,260 operators and support staff. 'This service was a lifeline for us and those we served. Its cancellation has caused immense hardship,' they said and urged Mr. Reddy to bring it back once the party regains power.

Emotional scenes unfold at TDP Mahanadu in Kadapa as AP CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu praises district president for grand success of party's maiden conclave

TIRUPATI: The maiden TDP Mahanadu's public meeting held at Kadapa on Friday witnessed some emotional scenes when Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu appreciated Kadapa district TDP President Reddeppagari Sreenivasulu Reddy and his wife, Kadapa MLA R Madhavi Reddy, for the grand success of the ruling party's maiden annual conclave. This was followed by a massive public meeting attended by more than five lakh people from across the state. Since the inception of the TDP back in the 1980s, the TDP never held its party annual conclave, Mahanadu, at Kadapa in the last forty years, as Kadapa remained a stronghold of the Congress party and then the YSRCP until 2019. However, after the TDP-led NDA alliance managed to make inroads into Kadapa, considered the bastion of former Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy , in the 2024 general elections by securing 7 out of 10 assembly seats, coupled with the party securing 45 out of 52 assembly constituencies in the four Rayalaseema districts of the state, the TDP leadership deemed it fit to hold their maiden Mahanadu at Kadapa. This decision came in the first year after the NDA alliance stormed back to power by securing a landslide victory, winning 164 out of 175 assembly constituencies in the general elections. After Kadapa became host to the first-ever TDP Mahanadu attended by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu himself, along with all his council of ministers and other elected representatives from the TDP on the first two days of the event on Tuesday and Wednesday, all eyes were on the grand finale. This was held in the form of a public meeting, which was scheduled to be attended by over five lakh people from across the state. When the chief minister reached the public meeting venue at Kadapa on Friday, he was thoroughly ecstatic with the arrangements and the overflowing crowds. When Chandrababu Naidu looked at Kadapa district TDP President Sreenivasulu Reddy and remarked, 'Srinivas, you have done an excellent job in terms of the arrangements,' the latter couldn't control his joy and broke down emotionally into tears as the appreciation came directly from the CM. During his address at the public meeting, Naidu appreciated the efforts of the Kadapa district TDP unit and the alliance partners in securing 7 out of 10 assembly constituencies in Kadapa in the previous elections. He urged them to keep up their spirits and aim to secure a complete clean sweep by winning 10 out of 10 assembly seats in Kadapa district in the 2029 general elections.

Andhra Pradesh attracted Rs 9.4 lakh crore investments in first year of NDA rule: Minister TG Bharath

1 2 Tirupati: Andhra Pradesh registered massive progress in the first year of the TDP-led NDA govt by attracting investments to the tune of Rs 9.4 lakh crore, said industries minister TG Bharath. Addressing party workers at the TDP's annual conclave Mahanadu in Kadapa, TG Bharath recalled that Andhra Pradesh was blacklisted by investors during the YSRCP regime due to the fear psychosis created by the then govt in their five-year rule. "Chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, HRD & IT minister and the council of ministers took great pain in restoring confidence among the investors in the last 12 months. It wasn't easy at all. But with a visionary leader like Naidu in power, investors gradually grew in confidence and the state was back onto the path of rapid progress", the minister added. TG Bharat also recalled about how the YSRCP govt trimmed down the state's economic development board from 60 members during the TDP regime between 2014-2019 to just 10 between 2019-2024. "Today after the TDP came back to power, about 50 experts were appointed to the economic development board to showcase the state as a paradise for investments once again. Even as we speak now, a specialised team is in the middle of their your to Japan to attract investments and adopt best practices," he added. With our focus back on 'speed of doing business', the AP govt assigns an executive to handhold investors proposing to invest in projects worth Rs 1,000 crore or more in the state. "The state govt has expedited the process of establishing MSME parks across the 175 assembly constituencies in the state. While 11 MSME parks have already been launched, foundation stone has been laid for 39 more MSME parks in the state. This govt will also fulfill its promise of creating 20 lakh jobs by the end of its five-year rule," the minister underlined.

Budameru flood fears haunt residents as monsoon sets in

1 2 Vijayawada: Fear looms large among residents living along the Budameru rivulet in Vijayawada and neighbouring suburbs, as no tangible work was completed to prevent Budameru from entering the residential colonies abutting the stream—even nine months after record floods ravaged the area and submerged half of Vijayawada for more than a fortnight last September. On September 1, 2024, floodwater from Budameru, following record rains and subsequent breaches in its bund at three locations, entered houses, submerging many colonies and areas including Jakkampudi YSR Colony, Ajith Singh Nagar, and New and Old Rajarajeshwari Pet in the Vijayawada Central and West constituencies. This forced residents living on the ground and first floors to abandon their belongings and vacate their houses, relocating to relief centres for nearly 15 days. Acting on a war footing, state govt filled the three breaches and assured the construction of a retaining (flood protection) wall along the Budameru stream to protect residents living nearby. However, govt has taken up the retaining wall construction only at the three breach locations, contrary to its promise of constructing a wall along the entire stretch of the stream. A deadline of June 10 was set to complete the wall construction works at those three locations. CPM state secretariat member Ch Babu Rao accused the TDP-led NDA govt of neglecting the safety and security of the people and the city, turning a blind eye to the promises made during last year's floods regarding full-length flood protection along the Budameru. "It is estimated that 600 crore would be required to complete the construction of the flood protection wall. However, a mere 30-40 crore was sanctioned. Despite the havoc caused by last year's Budameru floods, govt has no concrete plan of action, such as creating an alternate flood channel to divert Budameru into the Krishna river or expanding the existing diversion channel to enhance its flood-carrying capacity," Babu Rao remarked. It is understood that govt is currently focusing on the faster execution of flood protection walls at the three breach points, with plans to take up full-scale construction of the flood protection wall in the coming days. The Budameru bund has developed fresh cracks on the south side between Velpuru and Uppaluru in Kankipadu Mandal of Krishna district. Farmers in the region have raised concerns over water seepage from these cracks, which could potentially inundate agricultural fields in Velpuru, Uppaluru, Manthena, and Tenneru villages in Kankipadu mandal.
