India are all set to face England in the upcoming five-match Test series, kick-starting from June 20 in Leeds. This series will be a special one as it will mark the beginning of India's campaign in the 2025-27 cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC). Apart from this, this series will also be the first one after skipper Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli 's Test retirement. With Shubman Gill being named as the new captain, Team India will start a new phase. Before Rohit and Virat announced their respective retirements, the BCCI axed the Indian support staff, which included assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and fielding coach T Dilip. However, the BCCI later decided to reappoint T Dilip as the team's fielding coach for the upcoming tour of England after failing to zero in on a suitable replacement. According to a report by PTI, it was stated that the BCCI was very keen to rope in a foreign name as the new fielding coach, but the governing body could not do it at the required time. However, a new report from Cricbuzz has now stated that the move behind reappointing T Dilip was pushed by the former skipper Rohit Sharma. As per the report, Rohit made a special request to head coach Gautam Gambhir, requesting a one-year extension for the Hyderabad-based coach. It was also reported that after Dilip's exit, BCCI was looking to appoint Ryan ten Doeschate as the fielding coach. However, he will now continue as the assistant coach to Gambhir. During his earlier stint, Dilip had introduced some populist measures, such as giving medals for the best fielder on a match day or bringing in some legendary figures to distribute those medals. Talking about Tests against England, newly-appointed Test skipper Shubhman Gill and reserve batter B Sai Sudharsan could miss India A's second four-day game against England Lions, beginning on June 6. They are part of the Gujarat Titans. If GT qualify for the final, which is scheduled on June 3 at Ahmedabad, it will be tough for both Gill and Sudharshan to join the India A ahead of the match. Moreover, they will have to quickly adapt to different conditions in England to the red-ball format.

T Dilip has reportedly been retained as the India men's fielding coach for another year by the BCCI weeks after parting ways. Along with Dilip, the BCCI had unceremoniously sacked batting coach Abhishek Nayar last month. However, failing to find a suitable replacement meant the board called back Dilip, who will take charge from India's five-match Test tour of England that starts from June 20. According to Cricbuzz, former Test and T20I captain Rohit Sharma played a major role in convincing the BCCI and head coach Gautam Gambhir to keep hold of Dilip. Quoting sources, the publication reports that Rohit, who announced his Test retirement earlier this month, personally requested Gambhir to reappoint the Hyderabadi, who has reportedly been given a one-year contract. Dilip, along with Abhishek Nayar, was dismissed from his coaching position in April. After not joining any IPL side, Dilip will resume his role with the Indian national cricket team. He previously served as fielding coach under Rahul Dravid, whose tenure concluded following the 2024 T20 World Cup. When Gautam Gambhir assumed his role, Dilip was the sole member of Rahul Dravid's support staff retained by the BCCI. He also served as a coach for the Indian team during their victorious 2025 Champions Trophy campaign. Dilip's introduction of the Fielder of the Match medals at the 2023 ODI World Cup ceremony garnered significant attention. Ryan ten Doeschate will assist the India A cricket team, coached by Hrishikesh Kanitkar, during their unofficial Test series against the England Lions, according to The Indian Express. India A will play two unofficial Test matches against the England Lions, followed by an internal practice match against the main Indian national team. India and England will begin a five-Test cricket series on June 20th. According to The Indian Express, the board couldn't find a replacement for the popular coach and decided to give him a one-year contract. Dilip, who rose up through the ranks of the National Cricket Academy (NCA, now called the Centre of Excellence) without any first-class experience, joined the Indian team in 2021 during the T20 World Cup as part of Rahul Dravid's support staff. He's among the most vocal members of the backroom staff, known for his engaging activity-like fitness regimes and the famous 'fielding medal' ceremonies during the 2023 World Cup.
