Olivia Munn didn't realise she was focusing on ‘things that didn't matter' until cancer fight

Olivia Munn didn't realise she was focusing on 'things that didn't matter' until she was diagnosed with cancer. The actress, 44, was told she had bilateral breast cancer in April 2023 and since then has undergone five surgeries including a double mastectomy, a hysterectomy and lymph node dissection. Opening up about the new outlook on life the gruelling health fight has given her, she told a FYC event in Los Angeles while proming her new Apple TV+ series 'Your Friends and Neighbors': 'I don't think I realised how much I was focusing on things that didn't matter until I had a crashing moment in my life, which was being diagnosed with breast cancer.' She continued: 'It's unfortunate, I think, when something that big has to kind of turn your head around to look back at how you've been living and realising like, 'Oh, wait, these things don't matter.' 'But, at the same time, that's, I guess, the blessing in those moments.' Olivia revealed the details of her diagnosis and treatment earlier this year and has since spoken openly about how the ordeal has shifted her priorities. The 'X-Men: Apocalypse' star said she now appreciates her time with loved ones more than ever, especially with her partner, 41-year-old comedian John Mulaney, and their two children – three-year-old son Malcolm and seven-month-old daughter Méi. She said: 'So when I have energy to get up in the morning and I have energy to be with my family and my friends, and I get to work with amazing people, it's truly, as saccharine as it might sound, when I get up and I'm here and I get to see the sky and I see my children playing and I get to talk to my friends – I just need that. 'Everything else is just extra.' Speaking to People magazine at the TIME Women of the Year Gala in February 2025, where she was an honouree, Olivia said about her health journey: 'I'm doing really good today. I am working through different medications and I think anyone who's gone through any kind of cancer, but specifically breast cancer, understands there's a real science to figuring out the best kind of medication for you.' She admitted not every day is easy but said she has 'hit a good stride' when it comes to managing her health. Olivia added: 'I think before all of this, I wanted to seize the day and get stuff done and have my list of to-do things. 'And now my to-do lists are a lot shorter. I love organising and my house is a mess – I don't know if it's because of cancer treatment or because I have two children.' Olivia added: 'I give myself a lot of grace now with things like that. I don't worry about the house being a mess… I just wake up and really kind of give myself, I call them attainable goals instead of making really big goals that you end up feeling like I fell short… so I feel successful every day no matter how small it is.'

Olivia Munn Jokes Her Easter Will Live in 'Infamy' After Son's Tantrum Resulted in Him Walking Through N.Y.C. in Only His Socks

Olivia Munn had an eventful Easter Monday. On Monday, April 21, the Your Friends & Neighbors actress, 44, shared a hilarious post on Instagram after experiencing a day that she says will now live in "infamy" in her household with her 3-year-old son Malcolm. In the carousel of photos, Munn can be seen holding hands with her toddler son, who walks with his mom through the streets of New York City in only his socks. At the end of the carousel, Munn added a picture of his worn socks, which now featured a hole in the heel. "Yes, this is my 3-year-old walking through the streets of New York in only his socks," Munn hilariously wrote in her caption. "I'm posting this for all the parents who thought it would be great to take advantage of the beautiful weather and took their toddler on a walk only for them to lie down screaming on the floor of Whole Foods, run through the aisles of CVS screaming 'I don't like anyone!!' and knocked over your iced tea before your first sip, all while carrying your 7-month-old strapped to your body." Related: Olivia Munn Opens Up About Relationship with Her Surrogate: 'I Needed Her to Understand This Would Be Hard for Me' "After all of that, he insisted on walking home without his shoes," she continued. "And in a moment which I can only describe as total exhaustion, I said okay. So we walked over a mile home with only socks… through every street in NY." The mom of two went on to say that even though she tried her "absolute best," the day will now live in "infamy." "This Easter Monday will live in infamy in my memory as the day I tried my absolute best, got us home without another tantrum and learned that the rubber padding on toddler socks can only take so much," Munn wrote. "Cheers to anyone else who went through this today or any other day. You have my utmost respect. 🫡." In the comments, Munn received support from several other famous moms who had recently gone through similar situations. "Ohh honey yep 😂I've been here many times," Jenna Dewan wrote, while Amanda Kloots said, "Hahahaha love you! All the moms understand this one!" Munn shares Malcolm and daughter Méi, 7 months, with husband John Mulaney. In February, Munn spoke with PEOPLE at the TIME Women of the Year Gala in Los Angeles, Calif., and opened up about how her son has recently been transitioning into preschool. "We go to a school that does gentle transitioning, so that means parents can be there as well, so you don't have to drop him off and leave and they start crying and screaming," Munn explained. "But it was really emotional for John and I to see him in class doing so well," she said of her and Mulaney. "And then he just turned to us and he said, 'So are you going to pick me up later?' And we were just like, 'Oh my gosh, that means he knows that we're going to leave and is okay with that.'" "And that was like, we both got in the car and just looked at each other and just tears welled up in our eyes," she added. Read the original article on People

Jordan Chiles' 2028 Olympics Plans Might Take A Major Turn

Gymnast Jordan Chiles has shared that her plans for the 2028 Olympics are still up in the air. As she continues to grapple with the bronze medal controversy that took place during the Summer Games in Paris last year, Chiles said she has yet to decide if she'll hit the mat when the Games head to Los Angeles. 'It's not a no and it's not a yes,' she told E! News at the TIME Women of the Year Gala on Tuesday. 'I think my biggest thing is just taking it year by year, month by month and then we're gonna see.' Last August, the athlete was at the center of a scoring debacle, which began the night of the individual floor exercise finals. Chiles initially placed fifth before her coaches submitted a score inquiry and argued that the judges did not properly factor in her finishing move, a maneuver called a tour jeté full. After a review, her score was increased by 0.1 of a point — enough to bump her to bronze. Though Chiles would eke out a place on the podium, days later the Romanian Federation of Gymnastics appealed the score change on behalf of their athletes, Ana Barbosu and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea. The Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld Team Romania's appeal, determining Team USA's request for a score reassessment came four seconds too late and that Chiles would have to hand back her bronze medal. The UCLA undergrad has continued to fight to overturn CAS's decision, however. In September, she submitted a formal appeal to Switzerland's Supreme Court. The matter is still pending. When asked about the status of her case, Chiles told E! News, 'I really can't say too much about the bronze medal.' 'I just know my attorneys are doing their best to figure everything out,' she added. 'I'm always going to fight and be my best self because that's just who I am.' 14-Year-Old Avery Colvert Receives TIME100 Impact Award

Avery Colvert attends the TIME Women of the Year Gala in Los Angeles on Feb. 25, 2025. Credit - Stefanie Keenan—Getty Images for TIME Just last month, 14-year-old Avery Colvert watched thousands of buildings, including her school, in her hometown of Altadena, Calif., engulfed by flames. But 'while many felt paralyzed by loss,' said 21-year-old actor and producer Storm Reid, who presented the 2025 TIME100 Women of the Year Impact Award to Colvert on Tuesday in Los Angeles, 'Avery took action.' Altadena Girls—a recovery fund for teenage victims of the Eaton Fire—was born out of a group chat between Colvert and her friends, Reid said. An Altadena Girls Instagram account went viral, receiving support from high-profile brands like Skims and Orebella and celebrities like Mindy Kaling and Charli XCX. Colvert collected donations of clothing, beauty products, and personal care items, which she distributed for free at a pop-up location. Soon it will have a permanent home in Old Town Pasadena, providing mental health services, homework rooms, dance classes, and a space to connect for a community of young women. Now It's a Movement Colvert is the youngest honoree of the TIME100 Impact Award—which recognizes leaders across sectors and across the world shaping their industries, communities, and the future. 'Avery, your leadership proves,' Reid said, ' you can make an impact at whatever age.' Accepting the award, Colvert said, 'Altadena Girls was a late night idea jumped up only 46 long days ago while my neighborhood school and friends' houses were burning down.' (Her own home survived the fire.) 'To go from feeling scared, depressed and hopeless to feeling empowered, supported, and hopeful about the future in such a short amount of time goes to show the incredible power of kindness and community,' she said. The Women of the Year Gala was presented by P&G, Rolex, Amazon, Chase, Deloitte, the American Heart Association, and Toyota. Contact us at letters@
