Three LMS taking shapeConstruction in Turkiye proceeding according to schedule
On track: Mohamed Khaled (centre) on a site visit to the shipyard where the second batch of LMS is being built in Istanbul, Turkiye. — Bernama ISTANBUL: The construction of the second batch of three Littoral Mission Ships (LMS) by Turkish defence firm Savunma Teknolojileri Muhendislik (STM) at the Istanbul Shipyard is proceeding according to schedule. Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the first LMS is expected to be launched next April, followed by the second in June 2026 and the third in August 2026. 'The construction of the second batch of LMS marks the first procurement following the signing of the government-to-government memorandum of understanding for defence acquisitions in June last year. 'The progress of the construction is important because it serves as the benchmark for the new procurement approach by the government,' he told reporters after surveying the ships' construction at the shipyard here on Thursday, Bernama reported. He was accompanied by Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) chief Admiral Tan Sri Zulhelmy Ithnain and a delegation from the ministry. He said that after the vessels are launched into the water, they will enter a critical phase involving integrating various systems to be used on board, before Malaysia takes full delivery of the three ships by the end of 2027. He added that the procurement of the three LMS will be followed by an industrial collaboration programme, which has the potential to impact the local defence industry, including through technology transfer that will be finalised by the end of the year. He also said Turkiye underwent a process of technology transfer from other countries before successfully developing its defence industry. 'Malaysia has the same aspiration. Hopefully, the good bilateral relations and strategic collaboration between both countries can help propel the local defence industry and strengthen national sovereignty,' he said. The second batch of LMS for TLDM is based on the Ada-class corvette design developed by STM, which is equipped for multiple roles. Each of the ships will also be armed with Atmaca surface-to-surface missiles and air defence systems. Earlier, Mohamed Khaled attended the International Defence Industry Fair 2025, which is one of the world's prestigious defence exhibitions, organised by Turkiye's National Defence Ministry at the Istanbul Expo Centre.

TLDM lights up Perak PMR 2025 with show-stopping display
LUMUT: Despite the sweltering heat, visitors at Dataran Lumut Waterfront were visibly uplifted by the spirited performance of the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) Brass Band on the second day of the Perak MADANI Rakyat (PMR) 2025 Programme. A 20-minute showcase of musical flair and discipline by the elite RMN Brass Band drew enthusiastic crowds, many eager to catch a rare glimpse of the national heroes outside their usual military duties. TLDM Brass Band Music director commander Mohd Shamram Ramli said the performance was held at the request of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), the lead ministry for the Perak PMR 2025 Programme, to give the public a rare opportunity to witness the band's unique appeal outside a military setting. According to him, the performance first caught public attention after going viral on social media during the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA'25) in May, and was later staged at the TLDM Junior Soldiers' Passing Out Parade in Tanjung Pengelih, Johor. 'We created this performance to entertain people and, at the same time, showcase the uniqueness of TLDM. The songs we played were chosen from a list of viral tracks,' he told Bernama today. For this performance, the band brought a more laid-back vibe, featuring live singing, a dynamic drumline, and a fiery 'dragon' effect that lit up the sky, adding a dramatic touch to the show. What made the performance even more delightful was seeing the band members dance while playing their instruments, creating a vibrant and feel-good atmosphere for the crowd who braved the afternoon heat. According to Mohd Shamram, the TLDM Brass Band comprises 65 members, but due to limited space at the venue, only 55 were involved in the performance for the Perak PMR 2025. Before the band took the stage, the crowd was treated to TLDM's silent drill, a highly disciplined and synchronised routine performed without any verbal instructions or hand signals. It was a mesmerising performance that held the crowd's full attention, requiring the members to display exceptional coordination, control, and teamwork. Those who missed today's performances can catch them again at the Perak PMR 2025 tomorrow at 2 pm.

Six hurt in Langkawi crash involving TLDM truck, cars
ALOR SETAR: Six individuals were injured in an accident involving five vehicles, including a Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) truck, near Simpang Tiga Jalan Teluk Baru in Langkawi, today. The Front Commander of the Langkawi International Aerospace and Maritime Exhibition (LIMA'25) Operations Room for the Kedah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Senior Fire Superintendent I Ahmad Aminuddin Abd Rahim, stated that they received a call regarding the incident at 3 pm and arrived at the location five minutes later. 'The LIMA Operations Room received an emergency call via the land search and rescue (SAR) team, informing them of a road accident involving five vehicles, namely a TLDM lorry and four cars. 'There were 30 victims involved, of whom five men and one woman sustained injuries. One of the victims suffered a neck injury,' he said in a statement today. He added that more than 40 officers and personnel from the police, TLDM, Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), and Ministry of Health (KKM) also assisted in the operation. Meanwhile, TLDM stated in a statement that the three-ton truck carrying personnel for the LIMA'25 Maritime Segment Demonstration lost control and skidded while returning after Friday prayers at Al Ehsan Temonyong Mosque, heading to Resort World Langkawi. 'There were no fatalities, and all 25 personnel involved were taken to the Maritime Segment medical room for initial treatment. Two personnel were taken to Sultanah Maliha Hospital, Langkawi, for further treatment due to leg injuries. 'TLDM will establish a board of inquiry to determine the actual cause of the incident. The public is advised not to make any speculations that could interfere with the investigation,' it said. In addition, Langkawi District Police Chief ACP Shariman Ashari confirmed the incident, and further reports regarding the incident will be announced later.
