D.L. Hughley Thinks Trump Is Selling Out America While Enriching Himself

Donald Trump returned from his tour of the Middle East Friday with some investment pledges secured in Saudi Arabia and Qatar ... but D.L. Hughley is less than impressed with the transactional deals. TMZ caught up with the comedian on "TMZ Live" Tuesday ... and he slammed Trump's shift in foreign policy, which he says focuses on rewarding whoever "gives [him] a jet or builds [him] a hotel" rather than on shared values. Notably, Qatar offered an estimated $400 million Boeing 747-8 jet to 47 ahead of his visit, to be used as Air Force One ... which Qatar's prime minister has since denied was an act of bribery. The gift is a violation of the Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution, which forbids American officials from receiving gifts from foreign governments and individuals without Congressional consent -- and it's still unclear whether the plane will be accepted. D.L. says Trump wouldn't even be in a position to accept such a lavish gift if he didn't bulldoze our existing relationships with countries such as Canada and Mexico ... forcing him to create ties with new allies. Harvey pushes back, saying he's not opposed to the idea of this new "doctrine" -- but agrees with D.L. that Trump is the wrong messenger. Bottom line, the former "The Hughleys" star argues Trump's refreshed foreign approach is all about serving his best interest first, noting ... "[He's] gonna take off the top and whatever America gets, it gets." D.L. also slams Trump's dramatic approach to tariffs ... telling TMZ his back-and-forth actions have been "juvenile" due to his "rudimentary" understanding of how his proposed policies actually work. He doesn't back down, and even goes on to insist America's reputation is "up for sale" due to Trump's behavior ... even calling him a "carnival barker." You can catch the entire interview today on "TMZ Live" ... and more of D.L.'s hot takes on The DL Hughley Show.

Howie Mandel and Wife Terry ‘Scared Straight' by Separate Collapses: Now ‘Dedicated' to Longevity

Howie Mandel and his high school sweetheart-turned wife Terry are as in love as ever and looking forward to spending their 70s together even happier and healthier, especially after their public health crises made them red in the face and had friends worrying for their well being. A source exclusively tells Closer that, 'when Terry fell down and busted up her face after eating too many THC gummies last year,' it wasn't indicative of some sort of hard-partying lifestyle she and husband Howie, 69, are carrying on into their golden years. 'It was a huge shock to her and everyone else, because it was just so out of character for her,' the source adds. 'She's normally so straight-laced.' 'It was just a classic Las Vegas situation where she overdid it and paid the price,' the insider explains. 'The good thing is she learned a lesson about what her tolerance is and since then nothing like that has happened again.' The America's Got Talent judge joined TMZ Live in June 2024 to set the record straight after Terry's nasty fall led to a bloody face and broken cheekbone. He initially said she was 'tipsy' getting out of bed in the middle of the night and then fell, but later amended his statement to include the cannabis gummies. The source notes it wasn't all bad, as even though the two are far from party monsters, it was a bit of a wake-up call and a reminder of what a lightweight she is and how careful she needs to be with her health.' 'The same thing happened to Howie when he passed out from dehydration in Starbucks a few years ago,' the source adds, referring to Howie's collapse inside of a Los Angeles-area Starbucks in October 2021. 'He used to run on nothing but coffee, he never drank water, it was just not something he ever reached for, but that scared him straight.' 'Since then he makes sure to get at least two liters of water every day,' the insider continues. 'He and Terry have both made it one of the habits they work on together. They've gotten really dedicated to their health and fitness together, they have a trainer that they work out with several times a week and they also go on hikes together in Malibu, that's one of their favorite things to do to unwind.' The former Deal or No Deal host and his wife, 69, met as children and eventually married in 1980, when they were both in their early 20s. They're now planning to be together for many happy years to come, which means focusing on their health is now a necessity. 'They just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary, and are still so in love, it's very sweet to see the way they take care of each other. Howie turns 70 later this year so health and longevity is very much on his mind.'

Menendez Brothers Sentencing Changed to 50 Years to Life, Parole Board's Next

Erik and Lyle Menendez can celebrate a new court victory -- the judge gave them a new sentence, which allows for parole ... so now, they can get out of prison after facing the state parole board. The brothers attended Tuesday's resentencing hearing by video, and they were emotional as the judge changed their sentence to 50 years to life ... instead of the life without possibility of parole sentence they originally got. Menendez family members -- many of whom testified they wanted Erik and Lyle to be released from prison -- also erupted in joy, hugging each other in court as they celebrated their new sentences. During the hearing, the Menendez brothers admitted their crime, and even confessed they'd gone back outside to reload their shotguns ... before returning to kill their mother. As you know, the brothers' attorney, Mark Geragos -- who cohosts our "2 Angry Men" podcast -- has been pushing for the brothers to receive a reduced sentence for months, citing their rehabilitation efforts while behind bars for more than 3 decades. Now, Tuesday's decision really doesn't move Erik and Lyle any closer to release than they already were ... due to the fact Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered the state parole board, back in February, to begin reviewing their case. While former Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón supported Erik and Lyle's motion for resentencing, his successor -- D.A. Nathan Hochman -- has unequivocally stood against resentencing ... repeatedly calling on the brothers to take responsibility, acknowledge their lies, and apologize for killing their parents. The D.A.'s office received a ton of flak from Menendez family members for showing graphic crime scene photos last month during a hearing. Hochman apologized, with a few caveats, on "TMZ Live" ... but maintained it was done in the interest of sharing the full scope of the crime with the judge. Geragos fired back later ... claiming the D.A.'s office neglected to discuss the rehabilitation efforts of Erik and Lyle in any way -- and, they used the crime scene photos for their sheer shock value. The next stop for Erik and Lyle will be a June 13 date with the parole board, and if they're granted parole, and Gov. Newsom signs off on it ... they'll be released. Even if the board refuses to grant parole, Newsom could grant them clemency.

D.L. Hughley Says Mike Pence Winning Courage Award Shows How Far U.S. Has Fallen

D.L. Hughley Says Mike Pence Winning Courage Award Shows How Far U.S. Has Fallen D.L. Hughley says Mike Pence winning the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award captures just how bad things in the country have become ... 'cause Pence shouldn't have been in danger when certifying election results in the first place. The comedian joined us on "TMZ Live" -- as he does every Tuesday -- and, Harvey and Charles asked him about the former Vice President taking home the huge honor for "putting his life and career on the line to ensure the constitutional transfer of presidential power on January 6, 2021." Mike Pence and Trump Happier Times - Click image to open gallery D.L. says he understands why Pence won the award ... but, he thinks it speaks more to how much the political climate in the country has changed, rather than actually accomplishing anything above and beyond. Hughley explains Pence was just doing what so many dozens of politicians and other American citizens have done before him -- upholding the Constitution of the United States like he pledged he would when he was sworn in as vice president. Mike Pence Presidential Campaign Trail - Click image to open gallery This shouldn't be a big deal, Hughley says ... but, the country's so out of whack that even the simple act of performing one's duty is a big deal these days. D.L. adds that Donald Trump's reelection last year proves his point ... because Pence's act of patriotism only ended up putting a four-year pause on DJT's return to the Oval Office. Mike Pence Emotional Over Trump's Jan. 6 Tweet About Him Having No Courage Hughley does have some kind words for Pence, calling him a principled man ... but, ultimately, D.L.'s looking at the bigger issues in the country. During his award acceptance speech last week, Pence talked about how the Constitution binds the nation together ... adding that January 6 was a "tragic day but it became a triumph of freedom. History will record that our institutions held." D.L. says all of that shouldn't have been necessary back in 2021 ... and, that the country's in trouble because it was. Want more of D.L.'s hot takes? DNC Vice Chair David Hogg Says Dems Targeting Ineffective Politicians, Not Old Ones

The Democratic National Committee plans to take on members of its own party who aren't effective, regardless of age ... so says one of its highest ranking members. We spoke with David Hogg -- the gun control activist turned vice chair of the DNC -- on "TMZ Live" Wednesday ... and, we talked with him about efforts to reform the Democratic Party. Hogg tells us the DNC plans to present primary challengers against members of Congress who just straight up aren't getting the job done ... homing in pols it deems "ineffective." While some of those members might be older, longstanding politicians, Hogg promises they aren't setting an upper-age limit for their party ... instead, the DNC is looking at everything on a case-by-case basis. Members of Congress who are on the younger side can be ineffective too ... and, the DNC will certainly look to challenge them for their seats as well. Hogg points out the cratering approval rating for Dems ... claiming just 26% of self-identifying member thinks the party is doing a good job, adding every demographic -- outside of the elderly and the highly educated -- is supporting the party less. The vice chair of the DNC says he and his colleagues plan to give voters a reason to vote Democratic ... instead of just touting how they aren't Republicans. If you don't know Hogg ... he rose to fame after surviving the tragic Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida in 2018 -- writing a book about his experiences and advocating for gun control measures. He founded the Leaders We Deserve political action committee and was named the DNC vice chair in February. Sounds like David's ready to make some big changes to the party ... though we'll have to wait and see if they pay off. Watch "TMZ Live" today ... check your local listings.
