Laura Woods screams 'F****** hell Rio!' as presenter chins Ferdinand for hilarious TV gaffe

The former footballer and pundit was making his last appearance for TNT Laura Woods paid an emotional tribute to Rio Ferdinand as he hung his mic at TNT Sport. But that was only after the Manchester United and England legend had left her frustrated as she warmed up for live coverage of Saturday's Champions League final. ‌ Poplar presenter Woods was rehearsing at the Allianz Arena in Munich ahead of the big match between Paris-Saint Germain and Inter Milan. ‌ And as the 37-year-old was speaking, the former defender wandered in front of the camera. That prompted Arsenal fan Woods to say: "F******* hell Rio," before she burst out laughing. She later posted the clip on her Instagram page with the message: "We'll miss you, Rio (excuse the language!)." He walked in front of her mid-sentence as she said: "PSG are going for their first ever Champions League trophy. Could they do it? Let's find out in the company of.... f***** hell Rio." ‌ She then said: "That was going to be some of my best work." Oblivious, he said: "Oh sorry, s***." She giggled: "I wish that was live." In the build up to PSG's thumping win in Germany, presenter Woods offered a nod to it being a poignant night for her colleague. ‌ The TNT star offered a moment for Ferdinand to reflect. She asked him on air: "Rio, you've just been taking it all in, haven't you?' "Yeah, I have," he replied. "I've been in the city for three days now. It's been a bit of a lads' tour. We've been loving it." And Ferdinand - who appeared alongside ex team-mate and former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard - went on to deliver a gracious speech, paying tribute to those he'd worked with on and off he camera. "I just want to say thank you to everybody that I've worked with," he said. "My job was made a lot easier by the great people and friends that I have worked with and will remain friends for many years. "As important as the people you see on the screen are the people behind the screen that do all the jobs to get us here and enable us to put our best foot forward are all appreciated. "Again, thank you to everybody who has been a part of it."

Emma Raducanu's coach reveals his tough message for the former US Open winner after crushing defeat at Roland-Garros to defending champion Iga Swiatek

Emma Raducanu 's coach Mark Petchey has revealed the message he shared with the player at the start of their partnership in the wake of her French Open second-round defeat to Iga Swiatek. The former British No1 was crushed by the defending champion and four-time Roland-Garros winner on Court Philippe-Chatrier, falling 6-1, 6-2 on the Paris tournament's showcourt. Until her defeat to Swiatek, who is looking to secure a fourth consecutive French Open title next week, Raducanu had been enjoying an improved showing on clay under Petchey. The 22-year-old appointed Andy Murray 's former coach at the Miami Open, after calling time on her budding partnership with then-coach Vlado Platenik after just 14 days. Raducanu then trained with Petchey in Los Angeles, then competing in clay events in Madrid, Rome, and Strasbourg before travelling to the French capital. Speaking after the loss, Petchey - who manages his punditry commitments with TNT Sport and the Tennis channel alongside working with the world No41 - was bullish about his player's prospects as he called out those who have failed to move on from her historic US Open win nearly four years ago. The 22-year-old finished her clay season with a whimper as she lost in straight sets to Iga Swiatek in Paris But Petchey has been bullish about his player's prospects, targeting a return to the top 20 'From my point of view, it's tough on Emma as I still feel everyone is living in 2021,' Petchey said on TNT Sport. 'The games have changed massively, the balls are four times heavier than back in 2021 and Emma isn't the biggest hitter out there. 'If you can't put the ball through the court on a windy, heavy clay court day against someone like Iga, you're going to get in all sorts of trouble. 'If anyone has watched Iga's losses over the clay court season, the players that have beaten her have played absolutely lights-out tennis. Although everyone's saying Iga's form is bad, I didn't actually think that, and she proved it yesterday. 'On hard courts and grass is a lot closer compared to where Emma was in Australia (where she lost to Swiatek 6-1, 6-0) but against Iga and Coco (Gauff), she knows what she has to do and it will take a long time. 'My mantra to her has been: "You are starting your career now. Everyone is judging you on what happened in 2021, but the reality is, I want to see you building a career here where people judge you in two years."' Petchey added he was 'tired' of hearing complaints from those who believe Raducanu does not work hard, sharing that based on his experience working with her in 2020 and to date, 'not once has she not put in a full day shift'. 'Whether there are areas that together, we can help her crystalise more gains in the fitness, or the tennis, or whatever - in terms of turning up every day and putting in a good shift, she's done that every single time. 'So I'd like to bury that myth where it belongs.' Andy Murray's former coach also highlighted how much the game has changed in four year Petchey also shed light on the high standards he has set himself for working with the player, revealing that he has called upon his employer to sack him if she feels their partnership isn't yielding the necessary results. 'Since Miami when we improvised and I started helping Emma, I said she needs to start closing the gap between the best players,' Petchey continued. 'She doesn't need me to sit between 20 and 50 in the world, and if I'm not the best choice, she needs to find the best choice. Raducanu, who does not have a natural game on clay, may decide that her progress on grass is the ultimate benchmark for her work with Petchey. The player made the fourth round at last year's Wimbledon Championships for the second time in her career before defeat to qualifier Lulu Sun in SW19, and will look to improve on the result after improving her fitness over the last season.

Why Tottenham will get MORE money than Arsenal for being in the Champions League next season

MANCHESTER City will bank a staggering £53million in the Champions League next season - before kicking a ball. But Newcastle fans wondering where the club's "£100m jackpot" can be spent might be disheartened to realise the Toon will get barely £25m up front from their fifth place finish. 4 4 4 4 Despite finishing third in the Premier League behind Liverpool and Arsenal, the Etihad side will be the highest pre-season earners of the SIX top-flight sides in the Euro elite. And in a twist that will delight every Tottenham fan, winning the Europa League to earn a shot at lifting the Uefa Super Cup in August means Spurs could end up guaranteed slightly MORE money than their bitter North London rivals. Under the Uefa cash model brought in last season, all six Prem sides will earn a qualification "starting bonus" of £15.72m. But the division of the total £717m 'value pillar', based on European performances over the past five and 10 years and the value of the TV contracts in each nation, means a difference of close to £30m up front between City and Newcastle. TNT Sport pay £305m per season for live coverage of all but 17 of the 189 matches, with Amazon Prime screening the others - the first pick of Tuesday games - and highlights on the BBC. The combined value of those three deals is only exceeded by the £411m per year cable outfit Canal+ are playing for rights in France. City, ranked second in the five-year coefficient table despite their early exit this season, earn the biggest share of the "European" part of the pot, worth £28.23m. They also take the third biggest slice of the "non-European" pot, based on the coefficient over the past 10 seasons and worth a further £9.18m, adding up to a total of £53.13m Prem champions Liverpool are next among the English sides, picking up £51.64m before kicking a ball, while Chelsea, ahead of Arsenal in both coefficient tables, will earn £48.82m. Arsenal's £47.86m makes them fourth among the English contingent. Spurs, who earned their passage by virtue of their exploits in Bilbao despite finishing 17th in the Prem, will earn £44.62m if Portuguese league runners-up Benfica fail to negotiate their two qualifying rounds, or £269,000 less if the Lisbon side do reach the league phase. But when the £3.38m guaranteed for reaching the Super Cup is added, that could take Tottenham to £48m, a fraction above the Arsenal windfall. By contrast, Newcastle's relative lack of recent European history will see them add just £9.68m to their starting bonus, totalling £25.4m and some £28m less than City will pick up before the competition begins, even though they were TWELVE places ahead of Spurs in the Prem table. Tottenham ratings: Bissouma dominates Europa League final as occasion gets to Udogie BRENNAN JOHNSON was Tottenham's hero as they finally ended their 17-year trophy drought in the Europa League final. Despite being without James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski for the clash in Bilbao, Spurs came up with a massive win against Manchester United. Johnson scored the goal as he helped bundle in from a corner in a tussle with Luke Shaw to send fans into dreamland. But Spurs also owe a huge thanks to Yves Bissouma who was totally dominant in midfield. At the other end, Destiny Udogie struggled to get up to the pace of the match as he was up against Manchester United's Amad Diallo. Spurs had just three shots, only 27 per cent of the ball, and completed a mere 115 passes over 90 minutes. But it didn't matter, as United never really looked like finding a leveller to take it to extra time. SunSport's Henry Tomlinson gave his ratings for the Tottenham players … In August's draw, City, Liverpool and Chelsea will be in the top seeding group, with Arsenal among the second set of nine clubs, Spurs in the third section and Newcastle in the final pool. All clubs meet two teams from each seeding group but cannot play a side from their own country in the league phase. The prize fund for performances in the competition remains the same as last season, with clubs able to earn a further maximum of £77.4m. After the eight-game league phase, the team top of the table will collect £8.3m, in addition to £1.76m for every league stage win. Bonuses for knock-out progression will earn the eventual winners in the Budapest Final a further £55m.
