San Miguel's bounce back win vs TNT 'all about playing together,' says Mo

(Photo: PBA Media) Mo Tautuaa and the San Miguel Beermen easily moved forward after their frustrating loss in the PBA Philippine Cup finals opener against TNT last Sunday. In Game 2 on Wednesday, the Beermen took down the Tropang 5G, 98-92, and for Tautuaa, who in Game 1 made the dunk that was deemed as an offensive interference violation afterwards, it was all about playing together. "I think that's the first time anyone has lost a game like that where points get taken away. That's definitely something that I've never seen that ever in my life. It's cool in that sense, I guess, such that we had to lose that way," Tautuaa said about the Game 1 loss. "But I mean, today it was all about us playing together. I feel like we played together well today and we weren't down in the hole early. We weren't down in the hole early and we just caught and started to throw it to the end." Mo Tautuaa talks about bouncing back after what happened in Game 1 of the Finals @gmasportsph — JK Carandang (@jk_carandang) July 16, 2025 Tautuaa said the team just put aside what happened in Game 1 and just made sure to bounce back to even the series. "We kind of tried to put that to the side because there's nothing we can do about that anymore at this point. All we're doing now is just making sure we go out and play our game. When we play our brand of basketball, we do well. It feels good," said Tautuaa. San Miguel head coach Leo Austria also said this about the frustrating loss. "We'd been in this adversity (Game 1 loss) and we know what to do," Austria said. "Plus the support of management, especially Coach Al [Chua], he was there during practice to motivate us and it's a good support from the management. Alam nila na kaya pa namin manalo and pinatunayan namin ngayon." —JKC, GMA Integrated News

‘Unstoppable' RR Pogoy credits teammates in semis win
PBA Philippine Cup. June 25, 2025. RR Pogoy of the TNT Tropang 5G against the Adrian Nocum of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters. (Photo: PBA Media) On the night RR Pogoy was recognized for reaching 5000 points in the PBA, he just proved to be TNT's main weapon on offense as he finished with a game-high 28 points to tow the Tropang 5G past Rain or Shine in their semis opener. It was also his crucial baskets late in the fourth period that handed TNT the lead as the Elasto Painters caught up. 'Si RR. Hindi namin mapigilan kanina,' said Andrei Caracut who led Rain or Shine in scoring with 16 points. 'Napag-usapan namin na may adjustments din kami para sa game sa Friday. Pero 'yung timing ng tira ni RR, 'yung four points and pasa niya, mabigat 'yun kaya lumayo sila.' RR Pogoy happened. This is what Rain or Shine's Andrei Caracut said after their Game 1 semis loss to TNT @gmasportsph — JK Carandang (@jk_carandang) June 25, 2025 Caracut was referring to Pogoy's lone 4-pointer at the 4:24 mark of the fourth period which capped TNT's 8-0 run after Rain or Shine inched closer, 75-74. For Pogoy, however, it was a big help that his teammates also contributed to the win as Poy Erram, Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, Simon Enciso, and Calvin Oftana also scored in double digits. ''Yung team namin ganoon talaga. Sinasabi lagi ni Coach [Chot], hindi kaya ng isang tao lang manalo, kailangan kaming lahat. We're not the best talented team sa PBA pero gagawin namin lahat para maging best team sa PBA,' he said. Game 2 of the semis series will be played on Friday. —JKC, GMA Integrated News
