Next Social Security payment tomorrow—How much will you get?
This week, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will send out one of the last benefit payments for May. If you started getting Social Security before May 1997, you usually receive your payment on the 3rd of each month. If you also get Supplemental Security Income (SSI), those payments arrive on the 1st of the month. But May was a little different this year. Because of how the Wednesdays fell on the calendar, the SSA pushed some payments to later dates. That's why it's important to know exactly when your payment is coming if you haven't gotten it yet. Most people get their payments on Wednesdays, based on their birth date. Here's the schedule for those still waiting for their May payments, which include the cost-of-living adjustment (COLA): Wednesday, May 21 – For people born between the 11th and 20th Wednesday, May 28 – For people born between the 21st and 31st In 2025, Social Security benefits increased by 2.5%. However, the projected increase for 2026 is expected to be just 2.4%—the lowest in five years. Here's what the average monthly payments look like now: Retired workers: $1,999.97 Maximum retirement benefit: $5,108 Disabled workers: $1,581.88 Survivor benefits: $1,565.52 SSI recipients: $717.87 Make sure to check your deposit date and amount if you're still waiting for your May payment. People who have limited source of income, or low income or older, blind or have a qualifying disability gets the supplemental security income. Children with certain disabilities can also get SSI, according to the Social Security Administration (SSA). Those people who are eligible for the SSI can start their process online or in person at nearest Social Security office or by calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time during the work week.

Social Security payment dates for May 2025: 2 checks will be issued for some this month
In Rhode Island, more than 200,000 people rely on Social Security payments every month. And this month, people were slated to get two checks. But, that means no checks in June for certain recipients. Social Security payments for May are being distributed to approximately 69 million Americans, including retirees and those with qualifying disabilities. About 7.4 million Americans who are disabled or have limited resources receive monthly Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefit payments. About half of those who receive SSI also receive Social Security. Here's what to know about this month's Social Security benefits. The Social Security Administration's yearly distribution schedules for 2025 and 2026 are available online to allow recipients to use the calendar for budgeting purposes. Regular Social Security retirement benefits were slated to be distributed on the SSA's usual schedule: Friday, May 2: People who started receiving Social Security before May 1997 Wednesday, May 14: Birthdates between the 1st and 10th Wednesday, May 21: Birthdates between the 11th and the 20th Wednesday, May 28: Birthdates between the 21st and the 31st SSI recipients were scheduled to get two checks in May – one on May 1 (the check for May 2025) and a second is coming on May 30 (the check for June). For months when the first of the month falls on a federal holiday or a weekend, SSI benefits are issued early – June 1 is a Sunday. Supplemental Security Income provides monthly benefits to those with limited income or resources who are 65 or older, blind or have a qualifying disability. Children with a qualifying disability can also get SSI, according to the SSA's website. Adults who qualify for SSI generally do not have monthly wages above $2,019. Those eligible for SSI can begin the application process online, in person at your local Social Security office, or by calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time during the work week. Remaining SSI checks will be sent out on the following dates in 2025, according to the SSA calendar: Friday, May 30, 2025: June payment Tuesday, July 1, 2025: July payment Friday, Aug. 1, 2025: August payment Friday, Aug. 30, 2025: September payment Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025: October payment Friday, Oct. 31, 2025: November payment Monday, Dec. 1, 2025: December payment Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025: January 2026 payment The Social Security Administration suggests that if you don't receive your payment on the expected date, allow three additional mailing days before contacting the agency; most arrive on time because 99% of beneficiaries are paid electronically. In Rhode Island, there are five offices. Here's where: 380 Westminster St., Providence, RI 02903. 4 Pleasant St., Pawtucket, RI 02860. 30 Quaker Ln., Warwick, RI 02886. 130 Bellevue Ave., Newport, RI 02840. 2168 Diamond Hill Rd, Woonsocket, RI 02895. Everyone can start receiving reduced Social Security benefits as early as age 62. However, waiting until full retirement age results in a larger monthly payment. That age has gradually increased in recent years, rising by two months for each successive birth year. For example, if you were born in 1958, your full retirement age is 66 years and 8 months, while those born in 1959 will reach it at 66 years and 10 months. According to the SSA, individuals born between May 2, 1958 and February 28, 1959, will reach their full retirement age in 2025. For those born in 1960 and later, the full retirement age will increase to 67. Ford recalls nearly 275,000 SUVs over possible brake damage
Ford Motor is recalling 273,789 Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition vehicles because of a poorly installed front brake line that may lead to reduced brake function increasing the risk of crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in recall dated May 9. Affected vehicles may have "a bent brake line" that could come into contact with the engine air cleaner outlet pipe, which is a hose used to transfer filtered air from the car's air filter to it engine. As a result, the outlet pipe may become damaged, resulting in a brake fluid leak, causing the vehicle's front brakes to stop working, recall documents state. "A brake line leak may cause a longer-than-expected brake pedal travel and result in a reduction in the rate of deceleration. If there is a rapid loss of brake fluid or the brake fluid is completely depleted, this can extend the distance required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash," the NHTSA states in its report. Ford is not aware of any reports of any accidents or injuries as a result of the faulty brake line. The recall affects the following models: 2022-2024 Lincoln Navigator 2022-2024 Ford Expedition Assembly issue The cause of the bent brake line stems from faulty assembly during the vehicles' engine installation process at Ford's Kentucky Truck Plant. An internal review of plant records conducted by the U.S. carmaker's Critical Concern Review Group earlier this year, discovered that modifications to the engine installation process had been make by the Louisville plant in November in order to prevent damage to the brake line. "Through this investigation, Ford's CCRG discovered that Ford's Kentucky Truck Plant (KTP) had modified the radiator hose stowage process during engine decking. This modification was done to prevent the brake line from being bent and was made starting on Nov. 20, 2024 to ensure proper clearances were met," the recall documents say. The vehicles included in the recall were manufactured prior to the modification made at the plant. Warning signs In the event of a brake fluid leak, the driver may experience an increase in pedal travel, or the distance brake pedal moves when depressed. "With continued driving, a leaking brake line will cause the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir to decrease," the recall states. When that happens, a red brake warning indicator light will illuminate once the fluid level drops to a dangerously low level. Remedy To fix the problem, Ford dealers will inspect the front brake line and, if needed, replace the brake line or air cleaner outlet pipe, at no cost. Owner notification will be mailed May 26, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S47. Consumer may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 (TTY 888-275-9171) or go to NHTSA's number for the recall is 25V-314.
