When do you get your Social Security payment for August? See schedule
Social Security payments for the month of August follow a normal schedule. But those who were previously overpaid by the Social Security Administration may get smaller benefit checks. That's because the agency was expected to begin withholding 50% of benefits for those who have been overpaid but have yet to begin repayments. The SSA hasn't released a number of how many recipients may have been overpaid. However, a February 2025 report by the SSA's Office of the Inspector General found the agency overpaid $13.6 billion in Social Security benefits during fiscal years 2020 to 2023. About three-fourths of overpayments (72%) happened because beneficiaries did not successfully report information to SSA that negatively affected their benefits. Such information could include additional salary or retirement earnings and changes in medical condition, such as the end of a disabling condition. Social Security benefits – paid mostly to recipients who are older or retired – are typically paid on Wednesdays. If your birthdate falls between the first and 10th days of the month, you are issued payments on the second Wednesday of the month (this month, that's Aug. 13), according to Social Security Administration's calendar. Social Security: Two-income retired couples may lose $18,100 annually in Social Security in 2033 Subsequent payments go out weekly: recipients born between the 11th and 20th are paid on the third Wednesday (Aug. 20), and those born after the 20th of the month get payments on the fourth Wednesday of the month (Aug. 27), according to the SSA calendar. Social Security recipients who began getting benefits before May 1997 are paid on Aug. 1. Social Security payment schedule for August The Social Security Administration's yearly schedules of benefit payments for 2025 and 2026 are available online, so you can check the calendar for budgeting purposes. Regular Social Security retirement benefits for the month of July will be sent out on the SSA's usual schedule: SSI payment schedule for August, rest of 2025 and into 2026 Recipients of Supplemental Security Income checks will be issued payments on the first business day of the month, which is Friday, Aug. 1. SSI checks will be sent out on the following dates in 2025 and early 2026, according to the SSA calendar: What is SSI? Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a benefit program for persons with limited income or resources, those aged 65 or older, and those who are blind or have a qualifying disability. Children with qualifying disabilities are also eligible, according to the SSA's website. Adults who qualify for SSI typically do not have monthly wages above $2,019. If you think you may be eligible for SSI, you can begin the application process online, in person at your local Social Security office, or by calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time during the work week. More than 120,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees recalled over faulty passenger headrests
Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, is recalling 121,398 Jeep Grand Cherokees over faulty second-row headrests that may not lock in the upright position, increasing the risk of injury to passenger, according to a recall notice posted Wednesday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. "A head restraint that is folded forward may increase the risk of injury to seat occupants in certain types of crashes," the notice states. The recall affects certain 2023-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles. To fix the problem, owners of recalled vehicles can take their Jeep Grand Cherokee to their local dealer, who will inspect and if necessary replace both second-row seat head restraints for free. Vehicle owner notification letters will be mailed on Sept. 5. Owners may contact customer service at FCA US (also known as Stellantis North America) at 1-800-853-1403. Stallentis' number for this recall is 20C. Owners can also contact the NHTSA safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-888-275-9171), or go to NHTSA's number for the recall is 25V-472. Stellantis also recalled more than 63,000 Jeep Cherokees in January because of a defect that causes the vehicles to lose power and impede parking.

NUS team records historic first title for Singapore at Australasian debate competition

SINGAPORE - A team from the National University of Singapore (NUS) has been crowned the champions of the South China Australasian Intervarsity Debate Championships (Australs) - a first for Singapore in the tournament's 50-year history. On July 12 , the the NUS TTY team comprising Cavan Tay, Justin Tay (no relation), and Rei Ya Yeo defeated a team from the Australian National University in the grand final of the Australs to emerge champions of the 50-team tournament. 'This championship win felt larger than ourselves,' the trio told The Straits Times in a statement on July 13. 'Australs specifically has always been dominated by larger and more established institutions primarily from Australia, with strong alumni networks and an impressive institutional record of wins. 'As an Asian team in the competition, there was definitely a sense of being the underdog, which made our series of wins... exceptionally exciting.' This year's edition of the annual competition was held in Guangzhou, China. In the grand final, the two teams clashed on the topic of whether Pacific Island nations should prioritise buying land from neighbouring developing countries over seeking permanent residence in developed countries as a response to rising sea levels. The NUS TTY team debated for the negative in a heated match that lasted over an hour. Five out of seven judges voted to declare them the winner. There was further joy for Cavan, 26, an incoming year 4 student majoring in business administration , who became the first representative from Singapore to pick up two individual gongs - Overall Best Speaker and Best Speaker in the Grand Final - at the Australs, in addition to the championship win. This marks the NUS English Debate Team's third consecutive victory at a major debate competition. Its teams had also triumped at the United Asian Debating Championship 2025 , also in Guangzhou, in June , and Krabi Asian British Parliamentary 2024, in the Southern Thai province in October 2024 . Its next big competition is the World University Debating Championships, which will be held in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia in December. NUS had sent two teams to compete at the Australs this year. The NUS CDL team – which comprised speakers Lee Wei Le, Mr Ian Dylan Chai and Ms Rdu Dillon – saw their run end in the semi-finals, but still had reason to celebrate with Mr Chai and Ms Dillon ranked among the top ten speakers. CPSC Warns Consumers to Immediately Stop Using Bolloco Infant Bath Seats Due to Risk of Serious Injury or Death from Drowning; Violates Federal Standard for Infant Bath Seats
WASHINGTON, July 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers to immediately stop using Bolloco Infant Bath Seats. The infant bath seats pose a risk of serious injury or death to babies from drowning because they are unstable and can tip over while in use, violating the mandatory standard for infant bath seats. CPSC issued a Notice of Violation to Shenzhenshiqixinshangmaoyouxiangongsi, of China, doing business as Bolloco. Bolloco is the Amazon seller and has not agreed to recall the infant bath seats or offer a remedy to consumers. About 1,930 infant bath seats were sold online on Amazon from March 2024 through March 2025 for between $30 and $45. The infant bath seats may have also been sold on other websites and by various third-party sellers. The infant bath seats are sold in gray/yellow and have two detachable arms that serve as a restraint. They also have four suction cups on the seat's bottom and come with a cup and sponge. "PLASTIC STOOL" and "Model No.: YD-1958" are printed on a label located on the back of the infant bath seat. CPSC is aware the firm also sold the infant bath seats in gray, blue and pink. These products were manufactured in China. CPSC urges consumers to stop using the infant bath seats immediately and dispose of them. Do not sell or give away these hazardous infant bath seats. Ford recalling over 200,000 vehicles due to rearview camera issue
Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 200,000 vehicles because a software defect can cause the rearview camera to fail, increasing the risk of a crash and injury. Ford told U.S. highway safety regulators that the camera can either display a blank image or that the image may remain on the display after the driver finishes backing up, causing a distraction. Dealerships will eventually update the camera software free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by July 28. Ford's number for this recall is 25S72, and owners may call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.
