In NCIS: Origins Season 2, Will Gibbs Go From ‘Probie' to Assertive Agent? EP Previews ‘Honest' Evolution Ahead
How long does it take for a probie to start blossoming into a truly special NIS agent? That is the question I and probably other NCIS: Origins viewers have, heading into Season 2 of the prequel spinoff (now airing Tuesdays at 9, this fall!). More from TVLine Casting News: Chicago Fire Adds On Call's Brandon Larracuente, Shane Gillis to Host ESPYS and More FBI: International Co-Creator Reacts to Cancellation, Believes It 'Had Nothing to Do With the Quality' of Spinoff Matlock Season 2 Video: Stars Preview 'Storms Colliding' for Dad-to-Be Billy, 'So Much Trouble' for Sarah NCIS: Origins, starring Austin Stowell as Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, didn't put up 'huge' Nielsen numbers, but it was well-received for what it is — a wonderfully cast deep-dive into The Man Who Would One Day Become Boss' first days at NIS' Camp Pendleton office. (TVLine readers gave Season 1 an average grade of 'A.') Working under Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid) and Lala Dominguez (Mariel Molino), alongside 'Randy' Randolf (Caleb Foote) and Vera Strickland (Diany Rodriguez), and with support from 'HSIC' Mary Jo Hayes (Tyla Abercrumbie), Gibbs kept a (very) low profile to start, and only recently started to more loudly voice his opinions. In fact, it was what Gibbs was up to outside of the team's Quonset hut that drew more attention, especially when his role in drug lord Pedro Hernandez's murder was confirmed for Franks and others. There's no hard and fast rule for when a 'probie' can shrug off that dismissive designation — it's arguably around a year, Google tells me? — but while Gibbs is, yes, the 'new guy' on the team, it only gets more and more disheartening to see him in so supportive a capacity, and never steering any investigations (outside of the whole Bugs/second sniper mystery that bookended Season 1). Gibbs will one day run the D.C. office, very effectively and for a long while, so I hope to see sparks of that leadership potential 'flicker' more and more occasionally in NCIS: Origins Season 2. That is why I asked co-showrunners David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal if Gibbs will in fact 'be a bit more active, speak up more, and have a say in investigations' during the show's sophomore run. 'We're inching our way there, definitely, in a way that we think is honest for the character,' North told me. 'I mean, just take the fact that in Season 1, we know Gibbs' gut was churning a little bit about Bugs and thinking, 'Maybe there's more to this story?'' North reminded. 'But Gibbs didn't go down that path, he didn't gnaw at Franks and say, 'Hey, my gut…' — and he learned in the end he was right. Those are all stepping stones toward becoming the Gibbs that we met in 2003.' What do you think of the bosses' 'honest' approach to Gibbs' evolution? Can you/we be patient a bit longer, to get more vivid hints of the D.C. office's oneday 'Boss'? Want scoop on , or for any other TV show? Criminal Minds Video: As JJ Seeks Help, Aimee Garcia Previews ‘Intimate' Scenes With a ‘Magical' A.J. Cook
Special Agent JJ Jareau really needs help, and Dr. Julia Ochoa may be the one to give it to her. In this Thursday's episode of Paramount+s Criminal Minds: Evolution — titled 'The Brutal Man' (as in the next UnSub discovered to be under Sicarius' sway) — JJ (played by A.J. Cook) seeks out an unorthodox sit-down with Dr. Ochoa (recurring player Aimee Garcia), after putting herself in harm's way while processing the scene of a family's murder. More from TVLine Casting News: Lifetime's Lucifer Reunion, Prison Break Addition and More Shrinking Boss Bill Lawrence Tees Up Reunion With His 'Hero' Michael J. Fox, Shares Favorite Spin City Memory Brett Goldstein Reveals How His Role in Bill Lawrence-Donald Faison Pilot 'Space Turk' (?!) Led to Ted Lasso And man, JJ has a lot to say. 'I think that sometimes we share more with strangers than with friends and family, and the BAU is JJ's family,' Garcia observes in the TVLine video above. 'JJ is 'off her turf' in a very intimate setting, with this doctor that is very well-versed in trauma and pain and mental health, so it was a beautiful opportunity for this beloved character that is JJ to have someone who supports her. Like, 'Who guards the guards?' They're heroes [in the BAU]… but who carries them?' 'One of my favorite lines that [Julia] says is, 'The BAU is one of the most emotionally constipated groups of people' she has met, which I think is so funny because they see Hell on earth, they see the darkest sides of people,' Garcia notes. 'So I think that Dr. Julia Ochoa was in the right place at the right time,' overseeing Voit's care as she is. The episode marks a meaningful pivot for Garcia's character, who until now has been oh-so-serious –and, frankly, a bit of an obstacle for the BAU. 'She's a doctor, she has blinders on,' Garcia says of Ochoa's cool, calm and collected approach to Voit. 'She sees Voit as a patient, unlike the BAU who sees him as a monster. So yes, this is one of my favorite episodes because A.J. is amazing and it felt like a play, and Julia gets to actually help a member of the BAU. I feel very lucky that Julia got to help a character who always has it together. 'The hardest part was not crying when A.J. was doing her scenes, because she just rips your heart out,' Garcia adds. 'She was so vulnerable and open, it was like tennis. She made it so easy.' In venturing down this rabbit hole for one of Cook's meatiest Criminal Minds arcs ever, 'I was just there as a support system,' says Garcia. 'I said, 'Look, this is your episode, so let me know how I can be of service. I will follow your lead.' And it was so lovely. A.J. just soared. I felt like a proud sister, sitting on the other side and getting to see her magic!' Press play above for more from Garcia, including why she sought out this atypical-for-her role, the Criminal Minds cast member she had worked with once before, and whether Dr. Ochoa might become the Harley Quinn to Voit's Joker! Happy Gilmore 2: Adam Sandler's Bad Boy Golfer Gets Back Into the Swing of Things in New Trailer — Watch
Prepare to get Happy again. Netflix has released the full trailer for Happy Gilmore 2, the sequel to Adam Sandler's hit 1996 golf comedy that hits Netflix on Friday, July 25. (Press PLAY above for a sneak peek.) More from TVLine Casting News: Boston Blue Adds Maggie Lawson, Lincoln Lawyer Enlists Cobie Smulders and More Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale Trailer Offers First Glimpse at Maggie Smith Tribute - Watch Nobody Wants This Lands Season 2 Premiere Date at Netflix - Watch the Cast's Video Announcement In a previous teaser trailer, which Sandler shared on Instagram in December, Happy mourned the loss of his pal 'Chubbs' Peterson — played in the first Happy Gilmore film by Carl Weathers, who died in February 2024 — before crossing paths with sworn nemesis Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald). Netflix first announced the movie pickup as part of its Upfront presentation to advertisers last year, affirming that 'Adam Sandler will reprise his iconic role in a brand-new movie, Happy Gilmore 2.' It was McDonald, via a radio interview — and then Drew Barrymore, somewhat randomly — who first got the Happy Gilmore 2 buzz going. During an episode of Barrymore's syndicated daytime talker, she received, in real time via text, confirmation from Sandler that a sequel script was in progress. Sandler co-wrote the original 1996 motion picture and also starred as the titular Happy Gilmore, a lovable loser who only ever wanted to be a professional hockey player. But when Happy discovers he actually has a talent for playing an entirely different sport, golf — and after his grandmother learns that she will lose her home unless she ponies up $270K for the IRS — he joins a golf tournament to try and win enough money to save the day. The Happy Gilmore cast also included Christopher McDonald as a rival golfer, Julie Bowen as Happy's love interest, the late Frances Bay as Grandma and the late Carl Weathers as retired pro 'Chubbs' Peterson, while the late game show icon Bob Barker had an instantly iconic cameo as himself. Among the Happy Gilmore 2 castings, you have Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce doing 'something' and Josh Safdie, who directed Sandler in Uncut Gems, in 'a juicy part.' Landman Season 2 Adds 1883′s Sam Elliott
Landman loves an actor that can rock a Stetson. The Paramount+ drama has added Sam Elliott in a major Season 2 role opposite Billy Bob Thornton, TVLine has confirmed. More from TVLine Casting News: Matt Lauria Joins CBS' Fire Country Spinoff and More Cedric the Entertainer Talks Nixed Neighborhood Spinoff, Offers Update on Tracy Morgan Offshoot Crutch No, Fire Country's Stephanie Arcila Doesn't Know How Gabriela Will Suddenly Exit the Show Either The casting, which was first reported by Puck News, reunites the 1883 star with series creator Taylor Sheridan. Character details are being kept under wraps, but Elliott will be a series regular. Landman Season 2: Everything We Know View List Official word of his casting comes nearly two months after Paramount+ announced the show's renewal. At the time, TVLine reported that Andy Garcia, who was introduced in the Season 1 finale, would be back as a series regular in Season 2. 'Landman was one of the biggest shows of the year because of Taylor Sheridan's unique ability to tap into the cultural zeitgeist, harnessing the Neo-western themes of rugged individualism, ambition and working-class struggles set against contemporary debates around energy, climate change and economic growth,' Chris McCarthy, President and CEO, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks, said in a previous statement. Meanwhile, Paramount+ noted that Landman had 35 million global streaming viewers for its premiere (based on Average Minute Audience and including CTV viewing), and that it delivered the most-watched global premiere and finale of any series in the streamer's history. (Per Nielsen, Millennials and Gen X were the main draw for Landman, with 58% of the audience falling into the 35-64 age bracket.) The series follows Tommy Norris (Thornton) in the cutthroat world of oilfields in Texas where 'roughnecks and wildcat billionaires are fueling a boom so big it's reshaping our climate, our economy, and our geopolitics,' per the official logline. The Season 1 finale found Tommy assuming leadership of the oil company he works for after the unexpected death of his boss, CEO Monty Miller (played by Jon Hamm). In addition to playing 1883's Capt. Shea Brennan, Elliott's resumé includes roles on series like The Ranch, Grace and Frankie, Justified and Parks and Recreation and in films such as A Star Is Born, Hulk and Road House.
