Former in-laws of slain Hong Kong model Abby Choi ‘didn't pay a penny' for children

The mother of slain Hong Kong socialite Abby Choi Tin-fung has claimed her former in-laws' family 'didn't pay a penny' towards her two grandchildren's living expenses, while alleging the model's ex-mother-in-law took up to HK$80 million (US$10.2 million) from the deceased for investment. Testifying for the prosecution, Cheung Yin-fa on Monday recalled her encounters with Jenny Li Sui-heung, who is being tried in the District Court trial for allegedly obstructing a police investigation into her son, Alex Kwong Kong-chi, who was Choi's ex-husband, after the model went missing on February 21, 2023. Li has denied the charge. Parts of her dismembered body were found in a three-storey village house in Tai Po's Lung Mei Tsuen village on February 24 of that year. She was 28. The 30-year-old Alex Kwong, his 67-year-old father Kwong Kau and 34-year-old brother Anthony Kwong Kong-kit are awaiting a murder trial behind bars. Li, 65, was charged with perverting the course of justice for allegedly urging Alex Kwong to abscond, knowing he was wanted by police for a 2015 theft case involving HK$6.3 million in gold and jewellery. The prosecution also accused Li of misleading the theft investigation and asking Cheung to remain silent if interviewed by detectives.

Tai Po win Hong Kong Premier League after Lee Man's 15 minutes of madness

Tai Po have won the Hong Kong Premier League in sensational fashion after they swept aside North District 3-1, while 10-man Lee Man crashed to a shock 3-0 defeat by the outstanding BC Rangers. Lee Man had appeared in pole position to claim their second straight title when they began the final day with a one-point advantage over the district club. But there was a dramatic twist when Guilherme Biteco, the midfielder on loan at Rangers from Tai Po, squirmed a 74th-minute shot through the weak resistance of Chan Ka-ho. With five minutes remaining, Luizinho slid in Lau Chi-lok, who kept his composure to slip a low finish across Lee Man No 1 Chan. Lau struck again in similar fashion after 89 minutes, sweeping home first time from a Barak Braunshtain pass. Lee Man, who twice hit the woodwork in the first half, were dealt a huge blow when left-back Ryoya Tachibana collected his second yellow card for a cynical trip on Luizinho after 51 minutes. Tai Po, meanwhile, were 3-0 in front after an hour against North District, following a double for Lucas Silva, either side of Patrick Valverde's effort late in the first half.

Hongkonger sentenced to life for killing older brother in frenzied knife attack

An elderly man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his older brother at a Hakka village in Hong Kong three years ago in a frenzied knife attack that he described as ripping a 'mad dog into nine pieces'. A High Court jury on Friday returned a unanimous verdict after more than a day of closed-door deliberation to convict Chung Sze-hong, 68, of murder over the death of his brother Chung Sze-on at a three-storey house in Tai Po's Tin Liu Ha village on February 6, 2022. The jury of three men and four women rejected the defendant's assertion that he mistakenly killed the deceased under provocation. The trial heard the then 64-year-old defendant, the third child of six siblings, had been on bad terms with the deceased, 68, quarrelling with one another over topics including how to take care of their 96-year-old mother. The defendant inflicted more than 90 injuries on his brother following an altercation, including seven stab wounds and over 50 lacerations using a fruit knife. The elder Chung's domestic helper discovered his mutilated body in his home's living room that evening after the defendant called the worker telling her to return to the house to take a look at the deceased. The defendant also called police and claimed that a man in his 60s was 'dead', while asking paramedics to take care of his wheelchair-bound mother.
