Sei Shiraishi replaces Mei Nagano in "Toyotomi Brothers!" following scandal
26 May - It was revealed that Sei Shiraishi has been cast in the Japanese Taiga series, "Toyotomi Brothers!", replacing the original choice, Mei Nagano.
The news came following Mei's decision to withdraw from the project back on 18 May amid a relationship scandal. It is noted that Mei has been losing sponsorships and projects since she was embroiled in an alleged affair with married actor Kei Tanaka. Reports claimed that nine advertisers have already taken down her ads since the scandal made headlines.
The news of Sei's involvement was confirmed by NHK TV, stating that she will now be playing the role of Nao, the first love of the main character, Hidenaga Toyotomi. This will be her first time to participate in a Taiga drama, which is what NHK calls its annual year-long historical drama TV series.
"Toyotomi Brothers!" describes the life of Hidenaga Toyotomi, the military commander and brother of Hideyoshi Toyotomi, as well as his relationship with the latter.
Sei, who made her acting debut in 2016, is known for movies and dramas like "Silent Tokyo", "My Fair Prince", and Netflix's "Yu Yu Hakusho".
