Macaulay Tait tells Hearts boss Derek McInnes he's ready to roar after showing his teeth for Livingston

The Jambos youngster made the most of his loan spell in West Lothian and is determined to come back with a bang Macaulay Tait has told Derek McInnes he's ready to fight for a place in his new look Hearts side after coming of age at Livingston. The Jambos kid is heading back to Tynecastle for pre-season after a superb six month loan stint with the Lions – where he helped fire David Martindale's men to promotion to the Premiership after lifting the Challenge Cup. ‌ The 19-year-old was a smash hit in West Lothian and he's convinced the spell can boost his chances of being part of the new manager's plans. ‌ Tait said: 'Coming here has been brilliant for me, it's been a great experience. 'I've won promotion and won a cup final, so it's been amazing and I've loved it. 'I feel a much better player now, I feel like a more Scottish midfielder able to deal with the physicality of the game. ‌ 'That was one of the big things I had to improve in my game and I feel I'm much better on the ball now. 'The last five months have been massive for my development and I'll go back to Hearts looking to challenge for a place there. 'Obviously we have a new manager so I'll have to show him I can provide something for the team. ‌ 'I'm looking forward to it. Derek McInnes ' record speaks for itself given what he's achieved at other clubs so it's exciting times there. 'I will enjoy this for a few days, have a few weeks off and then get back into it for pre-season there.' ‌ Tait is still on a high after Livi's dramatic play-off success – with Martindale's heroes coming from two down to triumph over Ross County in the second leg showdown in Dingwall. He said: 'We made it hard for ourselves but we always had the belief. 'That's what happens when you've been playing well all season. ‌ 'We did well last Thursday and after going 2-0 down in Dingwall we really turned up. 'It's fine margins in the Premiership, County punished us for two slack moments but we were able to show our quality after that. 'There's a really good squad here, I hope the gaffer is able to keep it together because they can make an impact.'\ ‌ You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers and Celtic pages, and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season. Key Bangladesh pacer provides important update on fitness

Bangladesh recently announced that former Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait will join the Asian side as their new fast bowling coach , with the 2007 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup winner replacing the outgoing Andre Adams on a contract that runs until November 2027. Tait was renowned for bowling with express pace and Taskin is keen to lean on the knowledge of the Australian ahead of next year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. "He (Tait) was a very good fast bowler and played a lot for Australia. The best part is, we have a lot of T20 cricket this year and he played T20s in the modern era and has experience in major T20 events," he said. "He must have some good insights into the game and hopefully, his experience will help us. "When you're in the national setup, a coach can help with game awareness and some technical aspects, but bowlers mostly have to coach themselves. "However, when you have a big personality like Tait around, things become easier and hopefully his inclusion will benefit us."

Waiting times for an ambulance are up across Metro Vancouver, as calls for help jump

Fewer and fewer calls for ambulances in Metro Vancouver are meeting time targets for life-threatening emergencies like heart attacks or strokes, according to a Postmedia analysis of data provided by B.C. Emergency Health Services . Provincewide, waiting times for an ambulance increased at the highest rate in Delta, West Vancouver and White Rock. The median response time for life-threatening calls such as cardiac arrests increased by over 40 per cent between 2018 and 2024 in those communities 'Staffing continues to be a big issue for us in the ambulance service,' said Ian Tait, communications director for the Ambulance Paramedics of British Columbia, CUPE Local 873. 'So when you have a Friday night going into a long weekend, and if your ambulances are down 10, 20, 30, 40 per cent, you are going to see that in response times quite clearly.' The median time it takes for ambulances to respond to potentially life-threatening emergencies in 2024 has increased in every Metro Vancouver municipality since 2018. Vancouver, which typically has always met provincial targets, had a median response time of 10 minutes, 41 seconds last year — three minutes longer than 2018. In life-threatening emergencies like heart attacks, ambulances should arrive in under nine minutes, according to the national benchmark. While the increasing response times are a concern, they are median times. That means half the calls were faster and half were slower than the numbers provided by BCEHS. Provincewide, most British Columbians waited longer for paramedics to arrive for urgent calls in 2024 than in 2018. In many communities, those waiting times get longer every year. 'If BCEHS was meeting that nine-minute target, they'd be blaring it from the rooftops,' said Tait. 'The reality of it is they're not meeting it.' Despite numerous announcements by the province and B.C. Emergency Health Services in 2021 and 2024 , the staff shortage is driving up waiting times, Tait said. 'We're hundreds of paramedics short,' he said. Call volumes in Metro Vancouver nearly doubled from 2018 to 2024, according to BCEHS figures. B.C. Emergency Health Services responded to 607,716 calls in B.C. in 2024 — just over one call every minute of every day and an all-time high, said Bowen Osoko, a BCEHS spokesperson. Threats to life and other urgent cases made up 38 per cent of calls in 2024. According to Osoko, the increases were related to a number of factors, including a larger and aging population, increases in chronic and complex health conditions, and the toxic drug crisis. Tait said there has been an increase in calls classified as 'red' in recent years. These calls can range from something as basic as a stomach ache that could signal something more serious to a potentially life-threatening heart problem or drug poisoning. Response times for the higher-priority 'purple' calls, which involve immediately life-threatening cases such as cardiac arrests, he said, remained stable. Data provided to Postmedia did not separate the two types of urgent calls. Osoko said in an email that the median response time for purple calls in urban areas was 7 minutes, 38 seconds in 2024. For red calls in urban areas, it was 10 minutes, 34 seconds. 'Despite increasing pressures on the health-care system, overall response times for the most urgent calls have remained similar or improved over the last several years in the province as a whole,' he said. Both Tait and Osoko pointed to a program BCEHS launched in 2022 that works to reallocate less-critical calls from paramedics to more care-appropriate services like telehealth, transportation to urgent primary care centres or other community resources. Taite called the change significant. 'They've tried to figure out ways to get (patients) different resources so that they could free up more ambulances for the actual emergency,' he said. Osoko said many communities have increasingly been using other first responders, including firefighters and emergency medical call-takers, to provide support until paramedics arrive. 'It's important to emphasize that longer call times do not mean someone is left waiting without care,' he said.

Australia's Tait named Bangladesh pace bowling coach

Australia's Shaun Tait has been named Bangladesh's new pace bowling coach, the country's cricket board said Monday. The 42-year-old Tait, who played 59 internationals for Australia between 2005-2016, replaces former New Zealander Andre Adams who had joined last year. "It's a good time to be involved with the Bangladesh cricket team right now, a bit of a new era if you like," Tait was quoted as saying in a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) media release. "This is international cricket, not a development team, and everyone expects the talent to bring results, which is very much my focus with the fast bowling group." Tait will start his new role later this month, and his contract runs until November 2027, the BCB said. Before joining Bangladesh, Tait linked up with teams including the West Indies, Pakistan and Afghanistan. He also has worked with clubs in franchise leagues around the globe.
