Hozier's Historic Smash Has Finally Been Replaced At No. 1
Hozier started his career by releasing one of the biggest rock hits in recent memory. 'Take Me to Church' launched him into superstardom all around the world, and then for many years, it seemed as if it would remain his only major global smash. In 2024, the Irish singer-songwriter returned with 'Too Sweet,' which brought him back to charts globally and even helped him rise to new heights on several Billboard rankings. After a historic run on one of the company's rock rankings, 'Too Sweet' finally steps back, as Hozier is replaced by one of the hottest newcomers in music. Sombr Jumps to No. 1 Sombr leads the Hot Rock Songs chart, Billboard's list of the most consumed rock tracks in the United States. His single 'Undressed' surges from the runner-up spot to No. 1 in its twentieth frame on the tally. 'Undressed' Replaces 'Too Sweet' at No. 1 'Undressed' replaces 'Too Sweet' atop the Hot Rock Songs chart. Hozier's smash has now spent 72 frames on the genre-specific ranking — 70 of which have been in first place. That's a historic run on any Billboard roster, and even if the tune never returns, Hozier will likely forever claim one of the longest-running rock No. 1s of all time. Hozier's Smash Lives Inside the Top 10 'Too Sweet' remains a top 10 hit on five different Billboard charts at the moment, even 72 frames into its lifespan on each and every one of them. The track sits highest on the Hot Rock Songs list and also appears on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs, Hot Alternative Songs, Alternative Streaming Songs, and Rock Streaming Songs charts, coming in at No. 4 on the first two rosters and Nos. 8 and 10 on the latter two, respectively. Sombr Scores the Two Biggest Rock Hits Sombr has a lot to celebrate when it comes to the Hot Rock Songs chart. Not only does 'Undressed' become a No. 1, but 'Back to Friends' follows closely, as it improves from No. 3 to second place, meaning he controls the highest two spaces on the same tally. Amazingly, of the 25 spaces on the Hot Rock Songs list, Sombr fills four. In addition to his top 10s, new single '12 to 12' leaps from No. 16 to No. 13 in its second frame on the ranking, while 'We Never Dated' reenters at No. 25.

Hozier Scores A New Longest-Charting Rock Smash
Hozier's 'Too Sweet' becomes his longest-charting hit ever on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and ... More Hot Rock Songs charts, surpassing 'Take Me to Church' after 65 weeks. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - OCTOBER 30: Hozier performs at An Evening With Hozier at The GRAMMY Museum on October 30, 2023 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo byfor The Recording Academy) A decade ago, when Hozier released 'Take Me to Church,' he scored the kind of hit most artists can only dream of. The tune made him one of the most exciting new names in rock music to emerge in quite some time, and it propelled him to the top of charts all around the globe. For years, 'Take Me to Church' remained the Irish singer-songwriter's only major hit, but it was so massive that his career was all but secure. Nearly 10 years later, Hozier returned with yet another smash, one that quickly became as big as 'Take Me to Church.' More than a year after its release, 'Too Sweet' remains a massive hit on the Billboard charts, and has even managed to outpace its predecessor in one important way. 'Too Sweet' Passes 'Take Me to Church' 'Too Sweet' currently appears on nine charts in the United States and has spent 65 weeks on all but two of them. It reaches a new longevity record this time around, as it breaks out of its recently-set tie with 'Take Me to Church' and becomes Hozier's longest-running win on two very important tallies. The Grammy-nominated star now claims a new longest-charting smash on both the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Rock Songs rankings. 'Too Sweet' Still Lives at No. 1 65 weeks into its lifetime, 'Too Sweet' isn't just breaking Hozier's own records on the rock-focused lists — it is still a sizable commercial success. The track is a nonmover in the runner-up space on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs ranking, while it leads the Hot Rock Songs chart yet again. The same single also lives inside the top 10 on four other lists, including the Hot Alternative Songs, Rock Streaming Songs, Alternative Streaming Songs, and Alternative Digital Song Sales tallies. Hozier's Streaming Smash 'Too Sweet' even manages to appear on one of Billboard's all-genre consumption rosters this frame. The track lifts from No. 44 to No. 40 on the Streaming Songs chart. If it can hold on for one more frame — which seems all but certain — it will earn its first full year on that tally.

Hozier's Two Biggest Singles Tie One Another
Hozier's 'Too Sweet' ties 'Take Me to Church' as his longest-running hit on Billboard's rock and ... More alternative charts, as both have spent 64 weeks on the rankings. WEST HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA - MARCH 02: Hozier attends the Elton John foundation annual viewing party with Tequila Don Julio at West Hollywood Park on March 02, 2025 in West Hollywood, California. (Photo byfor Tequila Don Julio) More than a decade ago, Irish rocker Andrew Hozier-Byrne — known mononymously as Hozier — became a global superstar with his breakout single "Take Me to Church." The tune, which called out the hypocrisy of religious institutions, was noted as controversial to some, but also hugely commercially successful all around the world. The hit turned Hozier into one of the most exciting new names in his field. Now, 10 years after "Take Me to Church," "Too Sweet" has helped the musician stray from one-hit wonder status, and it's the latter track that is in the midst of a thrilling period on the charts in America at the moment. 'Too Sweet' Ties "Take Me to Church" "Too Sweet" remains a huge smash across more than half a dozen Billboard charts in the United States. The track is still living inside the top 10 on many of the company's rock and alternative tallies, including those focused on streaming activity, pure purchases, and overall consumption. As "Too Sweet" holds on and earns its sixty-fourth stay on both the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Rock Songs rankings, it ties "Take Me to Church" as Hozier's longest-running hit on those lists. 'Too Sweet' Vs. "Take Me to Church" Both "Take Me to Church" and "Too Sweet" may have spent 64 weeks on Billboard's rankings of the most consumed rock and alternative tracks and rock-only tunes, but their performances on the two tallies are not exactly the same. On the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, "Take Me to Church" ruled for 23 weeks, while "Too Sweet" racked up 17 stays at No. 1. The opposite is true when looking specifically at the Hot Rock Songs chart. On that ranking, "Too Sweet" has managed to reign for 63 of the 64 weeks it has spent somewhere on the list, while "Take Me to Church" scored just 23 frames at the summit. Hozier Could Replace Billie Eilish at No. 1 "Too Sweet" could easily return to the No. 1 spot on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs ranking at some point, as it's currently not far from the throne, sitting in the runner-up space. At the moment, only "Birds of a Feather" by Billie Eilish is beating Hozier, as her poppy cut dominates for a forty-fifth nonconsecutive stint.

Hozier's Debut Album Hits A New High Point A Decade After Its Release
Hozier's self-titled debut Hozier returns to multiple charts in the U.K., even reaching a new high ... More point on one and debuting on another following its vinyl reissue. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - OCTOBER 30: Hozier performs onstage during An Evening with Hozier at GRAMMY Museum L.A. Live on October 30, 2023 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by) In 2014, Hozier appeared seemingly out of nowhere and quickly became one of the most exciting new names that the rock genre had seen in years. The Irish singer-songwriter catapulted to the top of charts globally with his single "Take Me to Church," a social commentary on homophobia, particularly in religious communities. That track, featured on his self-titled full-length, turned him into a superstar — and he remains one to this day. The introductory set returns to multiple charts in the United Kingdom and even manages to reach a new high point on one while debuting on another, a decade after it was initially shared with the public. Hozier appears on five albums rankings in the U.K. this frame. It soars on two of them, returns to another two, and debuts on a fifth. The self-titled affair reenters the Official Albums Sales chart at No. 7, coming close to its No. 4 peak position. At the same time, it blasts back onto the Official Physical Albums roster at No. 6. That now stands as Hozier's all-time best placement on this roster. The early career win starts its time on the Official Vinyl Albums chart at No. 3. Despite the fact that the set has been selling well for 10 years, it has never before appeared on the U.K.'s ranking of the bestselling releases on wax alone. This frame, it's beaten only by The Fantasy Life of Poetry & Crime by Peter Doherty (No. 1) and People Like Me & You by The Sherlocks (No. 2). Hozier was recently reissued on vinyl to celebrate 10 years of success. Available in multiple colors as a double LP, some editions quickly sold out, as there was clearly pent-up demand to own the project on a physical format. Those purchases help the title debut and rise across the U.K. charts. As Hozier arrives on the Official Vinyl Albums chart, the singer misses the No. 1 spot for the first time. His only two other placements on that list — Wasteland, Baby! and Unreal Unearth — both spent one frame running the show. Hozier's self-titled effort also climbs on two other rankings. All the attention around this anniversary re-release pushes it a few spots north the Official Albums Streaming chart, where it places at No. 52. While far from a new high point, this frame is still special, as the title has now spent 200 periods somewhere on the roster. The collection leaps up the Official Albums chart — the consumption-based ranking of the most popular titles in the country — where it jumps from No. 65 to No. 21.

Hozier credits being from Ireland as the key to keeping his feet on the ground
Ten years on from Take Me To Church making him a star, Hozier is re-releasing his hit self-titled album on vinyl. Irish pop superstar Hozier is marking the 10th anniversary of his hit self-titled album that featured Take Me To Church and put him on the world around the world with a new vinyl release. It comes after a spectacular year that saw Wicklow man Hozier top charts across the globe, including America, with his Too Sweet single. Alongside the vinyl release comes a brand new remix of his song, Like Real People Do featuring NATURE. Hozier's track is part of the Sounds Right project, a collaboration with the Museum for the United Nations – UN Live, which aims to showcase nature itself as an artist. Sounds Right is a global music initiative to recognise the value of nature and inspire millions of fans to take environmental action. By streaming or listening to the song, listeners will be contributing 50 per cent of the royalties to frontline conservation in the world's most precious and precarious ecosystems. Hozier's track is part of the Sounds Right project. Since NATURE was launched as an official artist last year, millions have listened and directed real funding to communities protecting the planet's most vital ecosystems. The nature sounds that add an element of magic to the new version of Like Real People Do were recorded in Hozier's native Co Wicklow. 'It features bird song, cricket song, rain fall and thunder of my beloved home of Wicklow,' Hozier says. By infusing the hauntingly beautiful folk tones with the ethereal sounds of nature, the collaboration creates a stunning version of the Hozier fan favourite. Talking about the vinyl release of his debut album, Hozier, who will play this year's Electric Picnic on Friday, August 29, says: 'It's an album that very much changed my life and it's the reason that we're still playing around the world to this day. Looking back on the success of Take Me To Church, Hozier admits he never expected it to become such a global phenomenon. 'I was always proud of Take Me To Church and excited about it because I managed to get all these ideas into the song,' Hozier says. 'But I certainly didn't see it as a Top 10 hit. I thought maybe people would like it or appreciate it and that's what you hope for.' Hozier, who wrote Take Me To Church in the attic of his family home in Greystones, ended up getting a Grammy nomination for the track. 'All of a sudden, your name is next to somebody like Taylor Swift or Ed Sheeran,' he says. 'Initially, that is as surreal as anyone could think because they are such distant, intangible icons.' When asked by Magazine+ how he felt about the term Superstar now in front of his name, Hozier laughed: 'It's a bit of an odd term. There's a great myth about stardom or fame because you don't feel any different, you're just very, very busy. 'I didn't buy into it. I didn't internalise it, and I think that's really the trick. I think there's a real mistake you can make beliveing your own hype and your own bullsh*t. You have to keep a distance between yourself and the smoke that people are tyring to blow up your ass.' Coming from a normal Irish background has helped him to keep his feet on the ground, he says. Hozier told me: 'I think, if nothing else, what the Irish are good at is maintaining normality and keeping our heads. 'You are not allowed to get carried away with the whole thing, especially if you have close Irish friends around you. 'Everyone tears lumps out of each other. We slag each other off and have a great laugh. I think that disrespect for everything is a healthy Irish trait.' He's got a great sense of humour and when asked about the fact that he's had the odd bra thrown up on stage during his live performances, Hozier quipped: 'I'd rather a bra than a brick.'
