FS Misri in Japan, meets top officials; both sides reaffirm determination to fight terrorism
New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri today visited Japan during which he met with his Japanese counterpart Vice Foreign Minister Takehiro Funakoshi, the National Security Advisor Masataka Okano, besides other top officials. The two sides reiterated the shared determination to fight terrorism. During his meeting with his counterpart Vice Foreign Minister Takehiro Funakoshi, the two sides reviewed the salient issues in the multi-dimensional bilateral ties between India and Japan, including political relations, defence and security, economic cooperation and people to people exchanges. They also exchanged views on issues of topical importance, a statement said. Foreign Secretary also met with National Security Advisor of Japan, Masataka Okano, and with Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Hiroyuki Namazu to discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest. During the visit, Foreign Secretary delivered the spotlight address at the 2nd edition of the Raisina Tokyo Dialogue, organised by the Observer Research Foundation, ORF America, Japan Bank for International Cooperation and Keizai Doyukai (Japan Association of Corporate Executives). Foreign Secretary's visit was in continuation of the regular high-level contacts between the two sides in an effort to further deepen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. He appreciated the support to and solidarity with India demonstrated by the government and the people of Japan following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Foreign Secretary's visit and his meetings today provided yet another opportunity to reflect on and reaffirm the two countries' shared determination to fight terrorism in all forms and manifestations as well as the support infrastructure behind acts of terror. All-Party Delegation in Tokyo recieve support from think tanks in India's fight against terror
Tokyo [Japan] May 22 (ANI): India's All-Party Parliamentary Delegation interacted with leading Japanese think tanks in Tokyo and briefed them on India's zero tolerance to terrorism. As per India's Embassy in Tokyo, the participants supported India's fight against terrorism. In a post on X, India's embassy to Japan stated, 'All-Party Parliamentary Delegation interacted with leading Japanese think tanks in Tokyo and briefed them on India's zero tolerance to terrorism. Regional security challenges including state backed terrorism was discussed during the interactive session. Participants expressed strong support for India's fight against terrorism.' Earlier in the day, an All-Party Parliamentary Delegation from India met with Takeshi Iwaya, Foreign Minister of Japan, reiterating India's unwavering national consensus and firm commitment to combat terrorism in all its forms. The Japanese Foreign Minister expressed strong support for India's fight against terrorism and lauded the restraint shown by India, urging strict punishment for perpetrators of terror acts. Delegation lead, JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha said,' We presented India's stand strongly. He appreciated it and said that action should be taken against terrorism. He also appreciated the restraint India had shown. He supported India's stand against terrorism. He said that terrorism should be eliminated. He added that EAM S Jaishankar had briefed him on this. He offered his condolences on the Pahalgam attack and said that they (terrorists) should be punished.' (ANI)

Jha, while talking to ANI, said that the delegation is there to raise awareness of Operation Sindoor. 'Pakistan is a state sponsor of terrorism. One must differentiate between terrorists and the terrorist sponsor, which is the state that promotes them, funds it, gives them training. This is known, but we must make it clear that after the Pahalgam terror attack, India's stance is to wipe off the terror sponsors. Now people from all over the world should gather to eliminate this source from which terrorists are located,' he said. (ANI)

No. 2 Japan, U.S. diplomats agree to establish regular talks
The No. 2 diplomats of Japan and the United States have agreed to schedule regular talks, hopefully at least twice a year, to reinforce cooperation on security issues in the Indo-Pacific and on various other fronts, regardless of tensions over tariffs, a senior Japanese Foreign Ministry official said. Takehiro Funakoshi, Japan's vice foreign minister, held his first face-to-face meeting with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau in Washington on Friday. They discussed topics including boosting the deterrence capabilities of the two countries, issues associated with China and North Korea, and cooperation around energy security, according to the official. Landau and Funakoshi discussed "joint work to pursue a new golden era for U.S.-Japan relations," U.S. State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said in a statement. She said they also reaffirmed the importance of the alliance as the cornerstone of peace and stability in the region. The Japanese official said they agreed to aim for a meeting involving the foreign and defense ministers of the two countries soon. Both sides said the diplomats also agreed that Japan and the United States will step up cooperation through the Quad grouping of Indo-Pacific democracies involving Australia and India, as well as with South Korea and the Philippines. The ongoing bilateral negotiations on U.S. President Donald Trump's hefty tariffs were not a major topic of discussion during the meeting that lasted about 100 minutes, the official said. But the official said Funakoshi, the Japanese ministry's top bureaucrat, called for U.S. diplomatic support toward a mutually beneficial trade deal. © KYODO
