DMK meet should have thanked our armed forces, says Tamilisai
Coimbatore: BJP leader and former governor of Telangana and Puducherry Tamilisai Soundararajan expressed dissatisfaction over the DMK general council's failure to pass a resolution thanking the Indian armed forces for conducting Operation Sindoor . Speaking to reporters at the Coimbatore International Airport on Sunday, she said, "Our armed forces risked their lives to carry out Operation Sindoor. A resolution could have been passed to express gratitude to them." She pointed out that even though DMK MP Kanimozhi received international attention for speaking about Operation Sindoor, the party did not acknowledge the armed forces in its resolutions. "If Kanimozhi is being recognised for highlighting the operation on global platforms, then a resolution thanking the forces should certainly have been passed," she said. Tamilisai urged political parties not to politicise matters of national security, stating that "everything else is already being politicised." She also criticised the DMK's resolution condemning the railway department for allegedly neglecting Tamil Nadu. She countered that Tamil Nadu received the highest number of Vande Bharat trains in the country. Accusing the DMK of being more focused on criticism than progress, she said the general council meeting seemed to have been convened mainly for the sake of issuing condemnations. "It would have been better if resolutions were passed for the development of Tamil Nadu," she said. Referring to actor and MNM leader Kamal Haasan, she remarked that although he started his political party in opposition to the DMK, he is now aligned with them. She called this an act of opportunism.

"Should not hurt sentiments of others...": BJP's Tamilisai Soundararajan on Kamal Haasan language row
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], May 31 (ANI): BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan on Saturday responded to actor Kamal Haasan's recent remark on the Kannada language and said that while celebrating one's linguistic heritage, it is essential not to disregard or offend other languages. Speaking to reporters, Soundararajan said, 'Tamil is an ancient language, and you will always see Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating this... Whenever you express the richness of your language, you should not hurt the sentiments of others. When you express the richness of your language, you should also think about other languages.' 'Why didn't Kamal Haasan mention this previously when he was acting in Kannada, Telugu and Hindi movies? Why now does he want to disrupt the brotherhood of other states?' she remarked. Kamal Haasan and his movie 'Thug Life' were caught in a controversy in Karnataka after the actor reportedly stated that 'Kannada is born out of Tamil' during a promotional event in Chennai. It led to several protests in Karanataka by the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and other Kannada organisations. Actor Kamal Haasan reiterated his faith in 'law and democracy' on Friday, responding to the ongoing controversy surrounding his purported remark on the Kannada language while promoting his movie 'Thug Life' in Chennai. Terming India a 'democratic country,' the actor stated that he won't 'apologise' to anyone for his actions if he is 'not wrong'. Pro-Kannada organisations have demanded a public apology from him for allegedly hurting the sentiments of Kannada people. Responding to the warning by pro-Kannada groups that they would boycott his film if he did not apologise for his remarks, the actor said that he believes in 'law' and 'justice' since India is a 'democratic' country. On Friday, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) banned the release of 'Thug Life' over the actor's purported remarks on the Kannada language. Speaking to mediapersons in Bengaluru, Sa Ra Govindu, representative of KFCC, said that they have decided to ban the release of Kamal Haasan starrer 'Thug Life' in Karnataka as they stand firmly with Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and other Kannada organisations for their demands of halting the release of the film until the actor issues a pubic apology. The KFCC representative said that Kamal Haasan has not yet issued an apology for hurting the sentiments of the Kannada people during his promotional event in Chennai. On Wednesday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah criticised Kamal Haasan for his reported remark about the Kannada language, stating that he was not aware of the language's 'long-standing' history. 'Kannada has a long-standing history. Poor Kamal Haasan, he is unaware of it,' the Karnataka Chief Minister said. 'Thug Life', directed by Mani Ratnam, also stars Trisha Krishnan and Silambarasan TR in lead roles. (ANI)

NEP not saffronisation, but empowerment: BJP's Tamilisai Soundararajan slams TN govt over education row
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], May 19 (ANI): BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan has hit out at the Tamil Nadu government led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, accusing it of misleading the public on the National Education Policy (NEP) and promoting discrimination in education. She strongly rejected the claim that the NEP aimed at 'saffronising' education and instead called it a policy full of 'good things' for students across the country. Speaking to ANI, Soundararajan said, 'I appeal to the Tamil Nadu CM that so many good things are in the NEP, but they are saying that we are saffronising it. On what basis are they telling it?' She further alleged that the state's Education Minister was not speaking the truth about the committee that drafted the NEP. 'The Education Minister of Tamil Nadu is lying, saying that there were people who followed the 'Right' ideology in the committee,' she said, adding that there was clear discrimination in how education was being delivered in the state. Soundararajan criticised the ruling DMK leadership for denying language learning opportunities to poor students while privileged children, including those of ministers, studied in CBSE schools. 'There is discrimination in education; rich people and the Tamil Nadu minister's children are studying three languages, which they are studying in the CBSE schools. They don't want the poor children to get educated in another language to a good standard...' she stated. Apart from domestic issues, Tamilisai Soundararajan also praised the performance of Indian MPs on the international stage. She appreciated their unity and patriotism, especially in representing the country's interests globally. 'I appreciate all the MPs as we all are united, they have razor-sharp voices. We are not representing the party. We are representing our country,' she said. She credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for forming MP delegations that visited various countries to share India's achievements and values. 'Patriotism has led our country to be a victorious country against Pakistan... We thank our Prime Minister for forming such MP delegations to go to each and every country so that the good things of our country, the greatness of our army, and the good intentions of our country can be taken to the world...' she added. Her remarks came amid an ongoing debate between the Centre and several southern states, especially Tamil Nadu, over the implementation of the NEP and language policies. The National Education Policy (NEP), 2020, seeks to upgrade India's education system, with the aim of implementing a slew of reforms. (ANI)

‘A wrong perception is being spread in Tamil Nadu about NEP,' alleges Tamilisai Soundararajan
Former Telangana Governor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tamilisai Soundararajan on Sunday (May 18, 2025) alleged a misleading narrative is being propagated in Tamil Nadu regarding the New National Education Policy (NEP), 2020. Addressing the media in Chennai, Dr. Tamilisai criticised the release of the book 'National Education Policy, 2020 – A Rogue Elephant', authored by School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and unveiled by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday (May 17, 2025.) 'A wrong perception is being spread about the NEP, 2020. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) only claims to develop Tamil language. However only eight students, out of nearly eight lakh who appeared for Class X examinations, had secured a centum in Tamil language. They [DMK leaders] were talking about the vacancies of Tamil teachers in Kendriya Vidyalaya schools. However, as the post of a Tamil teacher remained vacant in a government school at Madurai, students failed to clear that subject,' she said. 'The DMK leaders have been talking about bringing back 'Education' from the Concurrent List to the State List. But, what steps did the DMK take when it was part of the ruling coalition at the Centre for nearly 18 years?' she questioned. Responding to a question about Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) deputy general secretary C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar's recent statement that his party would not form an alliance with the BJP, Dr. Tamilisai said, 'Vijay is the president of the TVK and he has not made any official announcement to that effect.' Further she said there is a pressing need for parties opposed to the DMK to come together.
