Dundee United flop Mark Birighitti signs two-year deal with Australian top flight side
Ex-Dundee United goalkeeper Mark Birighitti has put pen to paper on a two-year deal in the Australian top flight. The former Tangerines man endured a rough spell at Tannadice between 2022 and 2024, during which he failed to endear himself to supporters with a string of under-par performances. The 34-year-old Aussie returned to his homeland last summer, after his United contract expired. After spending time with semi-professional side Perth SC, he has now stepped up to the top level of Australian football – the A-League – with Perth Glory. Returning to a league where he has enjoyed the best spells of his career – and with his hometown club – is an exciting prospect for Birighitti, who has voyed to give his all for his new side. He said: 'Coming back to Australia and playing for my hometown club is where my heart is and I am ready to give everything for the club and play my part in helping them achieve their goals. 'Perth Glory means more than just football. 'It's about representing my family, fans and everything Perth Glory stands for. 'For me, it's not just a career move, it's a personal journey. This city has shaped me into the player I am and I'm proud to be back where it all started. 'I want to give back on the pitch and I am ready to fight for every point for this club.' Birighitti made 30 appearances for the Tangerines but fell out of favour altogether in his second season with the club. He was sent on an emergency loan to Kilmarnock in January 2024 but did not feature for the Rugby Park side.

What Iceland boss wants 'more than any result' vs Scotland
Scotland face Iceland in a Hampden challenge match as they prepare for the start of the World Cup qualifiers in September. Read more: But Iceland are a long way from their glory days when they defeated England on their way to reaching the Euro 2016 quarter finals and then became the smallest ever country to qualify for the World Cup two years later. They lost their last two games home and away to Kosovo and have won just one of their last seven matches. They are now managed by Gunnlaugsson, who once had an underwhelming spell at Dundee United before his contract was cancelled by mutual consent despite having 18 months left of his deal at Tannadice 22 years ago. He took charge of Iceland in January and will have to do without injured captain Orri Steinn Oskarsson for the trip to Glasgow. Gunnlaugsson said: "I want to see progress in terms of players understanding our system better. "We have this international camp now to perfect people's understanding of this system. "There are only a few sessions and meetings and the players need to be focused. "Of course we want to achieve a result in Scotland and get confidence into the group. "But more than any result and most of all, I want to see improvement."

Jim Goodwin eyes fresh Liverpool transfer raid as Dundee United boss tells Luca Stephenson he'd love him back
The versatile midfielder had a successful loan at Tannadice but he's not the only top talent at the Reds who has caught the eye Jim Goodwin wants to bring Luca Stephenson back to Dundee United and also tap further into the Liverpool development ranks. The versatile midfielder had a successful loan at Tannadice and helped the Terrors to clinch a Europa Conference League spot. United are to open talks about trying to sign Stephenson on a permanent basis but Goodwin has admitted some other Reds have also caught his eye. Goodwin said: 'I'd love to bring Luca back, but he's under contract at Liverpool, so we'll just need to wait and see what happens with that. 'I speak to their loans manager, Matt Newberry, who I've got a good relationship with. "(Leighton) Clarkson went to Aberdeen, obviously, a couple of years ago. "He was really good to deal with again with regards to bringing Luca up. 'They've got a fantastic academy down there, as you'd imagine, so we'll try and tap into that again in the summer. 'I've already identified a couple of really good ones, but it's just whether we can get them to Scotland or not. 'It's a relationship that we'll continue to try and work on. They're a great club to deal with.' Goodwin has already made his personal pitch to Stephenson. He said: 'I had a really good conversation in depth with Luca prior to him leaving. 'He was outstanding for us and deservedly won our Young Player of the Year award. 'We missed him towards the end of the season when he was unavailable. 'We missed his energy in the middle of the pitch, his ability to break things up and his desire to get forward. 'I thought it was glaringly obvious that we missed his presence in the middle of the park in some of the games.' Goodwin knows Stephenson's loan will aid their cause at Liverpool. The United boss added: 'Luca's going back down the road speaking positively about his time at Dundee United. 'I think that's the most important thing when these loans come up. 'When they go back down to England, they're talking about the Scottish game and about how they got treated at Dundee United in a positive manner. 'That can only stand us in good stead for the summer, when we have to go and try and do something similar.'
