Drake's Historic Hot 100 Record Has Been Matched — Again

(Photo by) Drake is, in many respects, the most successful artist ever when it comes to the Hot 100. The Canadian rapper has charted hundreds of songs on Billboard's ranking of the most consumed tracks in America, and though he doesn't claim every record, his legacy is secure. One of Drake's most impressive Hot 100 showings is matched this week — not by another rapper or even a pop superstar — but by the biggest name in country music to emerge in quite some time. Morgan Wallen's new album I'm the Problem debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with the largest opening sum of 2025. Several tracks from the project reach the Hot 100's top 10 for the first time, with several opening in that space and others surging. Wallen is joined by Tate McRae at No. 1 with "What I Want," which debuts in the highest space. The brand new tune "I Got Better" opens at No. 7. At the same time, "Superman," which was released earlier in May as a promotional cut, breaks into the loftiest tier for the first time. The track originally kicked off its time at No. 16 but now rockets to No. 8 in its second stay on the tally. As "What I Want" and "I Got Better" debut inside the top 10 and "Superman" reaches No. 8, Wallen's I'm the Problem has now produced nine top 10 hits on the Hot 100. His full-length is just the fourth in history to score that many smashes, and Wallen is now tied with Drake at this figure. Drake's Certified Lover Boy also produced nine top 10 successes on the Hot 100 when it was brand new. He managed the feat in September 2021 when he occupied all but one slot inside the uppermost region on the ranking. Only one musician has conquered the entirety of the top 10 in one fell swoop — and she's managed to do so twice. Taylor Swift became the first artist to accomplish the incredible showing with her album Midnights, which sent its brand new cuts into the highest region. She repeated that showing and even expanded her reach to dominate the entire 14 highest spaces at one time with 2024's The Tortured Poets Department.

The superstar and Tate McRae debut their collaboration "What I Want" in first place, and the country superstar sends dozens of tracks from his latest album, I'm the Problem, to the tally. As a deluge of cuts from I'm the Problem reach the Hot 100, Wallen adds significantly to his career total of placements, passing an important milestone and tying with two of the most successful musicians of the past several decades. All 29 new appearances on the Hot 100 are taken from I'm the Problem. As those two dozen-plus tracks arrive, the singer-songwriter increases his career total to 105 placements on the roster, according to Billboard. With exactly 105 Hot 100 wins to his credit, Wallen is now tied with Justin Bieber and Jay-Z, who have also accrued just as many. Both of those artists had quite the head start and spent well over a decade accruing smashes before Wallen's career really took off. Neither has been particularly focused on music lately, so their sums haven't increased significantly in recent years. Thanks to I'm the Problem, Wallen has now snagged four No. 1 hits. Two of them — "Love Somebody" and the brand new "What I Want" with McRae — opened in first place. He also reached the summit with his solo hit "Last Night" taken from his previous album One Thing at a Time, and "I Had Some Help," his collaboration with Post Malone. In total, Wallen has landed 17 top 10 smashes, including nine from his latest full-length. The record for the most Hot 100 hits is still owned by Drake, and it may always be. He is up to 358 placements on the tally, nearly 100 more than the runner-up, Taylor Swift, who claims 264. Also included in this exclusive club, which now features 21 artists, are names like Future, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, The Weeknd, and Eminem.

Will Morgan Wallen & Tate McRae Be Able to Hold at No. 1 on the Hot 100?
The Contenders is a midweek column that looks at artists aiming for the top of the Billboard charts, and the strategies behind their efforts. This week, for the upcoming Billboard Hot 100 dated June 7, we look at the chances of Morgan Wallen and Tate McRae's star-powered duet to continue its reign on the chart. Morgan Wallen feat. Tate McRae, 'What I Want' (Mercury/Big Loud/Republic): The combined star power of country superpower Morgan Wallen and rising pop phenom Tate McRae helped boost 'What I Want' to being not just the highest-ranking of Wallen's record-breaking 37 tracks on the Hot 100 last week, but the No. 1 song period – Wallen's fourth and McRae's first. The debut came on the back of 31.2 million official streams, according to Luminate, allowing it to bow atop the Streaming Songs chart and making up for its relative lack of radio presence as a new song. And the song is already starting to make a radio impact: After debuting at Nos. 32 and 38 on Adult Pop Airplay and Pop Airplay, respectively, on this week's charts (dated May 31), it's pushing toward the top 25 on both. (On Country Airplay, it debuted at No. 55 this week but looks likely to fall off next week – granted it's being promoted so far only to pop and adult formats.) If the song can hold for a second week, it will become the first multi-week Hot 100 No. 1 from I'm the Problem, pulling past the one-week No. 1 'Love Somebody,' which topped the chart last November. (It would still have another 14 weeks to go to tie the longest-reigning single from prior album One Thing at a Time, the 16-week No. 1 'Last Night' in 2023.) Alex Warren, 'Ordinary' (Atlantic): If not for Morgan Wallen's I'm the Problem album debut, we might be talking about Alex Warren celebrating his first Hot 100 No. 1 single this week. After multiple frames of being at stuck at No. 2 behind Kendrick Lamar and SZA's 'Luther,' 'Ordinary' finally moves ahead of that 13-week No. 1 – but still only ranks at No. 4 on this week's chart, after falling behind three tracks from I'm the Problem. Nevertheless, 'Ordinary' should remain a strong contender for the top spot. It still ranks towards the top of the major streaming charts, and after reaching the Radio Songs top 10 this week, the song is now aiming for the top five; it's up 16% in audience May 23-26 over the previous building week. It's also challenging for No. 1 next week on Adult Pop Airplay, and could come for the crown on Pop Airplay not long after. Meanwhile, Warren has a new song out in the Jelly Roll collab 'Bloodline,' which should also be headed for a strong Hot 100 debut. But as shown with the success of recent artists like Teddy Swims and Benson Boone, having simultaneous follow-up hits can be more helpful than harmful to the original hits these days, so 'Bloodline' doing well might boost 'Ordinary' in its pursuit of the top spot. Morgan Wallen, 'Just in Case' and 'I'm the Problem' (Mercury/Big Loud/Republic): Morgan Wallen will still be seeing an awful lot of himself in the rearview mirror, as his solo songs that rank at No. 2 and 3 on the Hot 100 this week — 'Just in Case' and 'I'm the Problem,' respectively – should remain big factors on the chart next week as well. Though the two songs rank behind 'What I Want' on DSPs, they still have the head start on radio: 'Just in Case' continues climbing Country Airplay, though it could be still outside the top 10 next week, after rising to a new No. 13 high this week. Meanwhile, 'I'm the Problem' has ruled Country Airplay for six weeks already, and could be on pace for a seventh week at No. 1. If one of these other I'm the Problem tracks is able to pass 'What I Want' on next week's Hot 100, Wallen would replace himself on top for the first time in his career – becoming the first artist to do so since… Kendrick Lamar just a couple months ago, after a Super Bowl-rebounded 'Not Like Us' gave way to 'Luther' and its months-long reign. Listen: Tate McRae releases 'Just Keep Watching,' song for 'F1' movie
May 30 (UPI) -- Tate McRae has released new music. The singer, 21, dropped the song "Just Keep Watching" and its music video Friday. The song will appear on the soundtrack for the film F1, which stars Brad Pitt as a Formula 1 driver who gets back into racing after some time away. The "Just Keep Watching" video shows McRae dancing and singing as car-related clips flash on the screen. At one point, she struts down a walkway in front of apparent race car drivers. New Zealand singer Rose, of the K-pop group Blackpink, previously released "Messy" for the film soundtrack on May 8. Other artists on the soundtrack include Ed Sheeran, RAYE, Burna Boy, Roddy Rich, Dom Dolla, Chris Stapleton, Tiesto, Sexyy Red, Myke Towers, Madison Beer, Peggy Gou, Don Toliver and Doja Cat. The album will release June 27 to coincide with the movie's release.
