Special passport drive at Ghaziabad RPO to clear summer vacation rush
Ghaziabad: Regional Passport Office will keep its Sahibabad centre open, under a special drive, for two consecutive Saturdays in June to handle a rush of summer travel applications. The drive on June 7 and 14 will process up to 1,200 applications each day, with 500 slots allocated for urgent Tatkaal applications and 700 for normal processing. The Ghaziabad RPO, which includes the Sahibabad PSK and 12 post office passport seva kendras (POPSKs), currently processes an average of 2,000 daily appointments (approximately 44,000 per month) over a five-day work week. To further streamline services, the office will now operate on two Saturdays each month, accommodating an additional 2,400 applicants, 1,200 per Saturday, with 500 slots allocated for Tatkaal (urgent) applications and 700 for normal processing. Anuj Swaroop, regional passport officer, Ghaziabad, told TOI that the number of applications increased from May 15 as many families are planning international travel during the summer holidays. "Earlier, new applicants would get a date after seven to eight days, but now, appointments are being allotted within three to five days. This reflects the higher volume of applications," he said, adding that specific data on the number of applications is not available. Verification officer among two arrested in Mumbai for issuing fake passports
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two individuals, including a verification officer of Passport Seva Kendra (PSK), Mumbai, and a private agent, in connection with a corruption case involving the issuance of passports using forged documents in exchange for CBI registered a case against Akshay Kumar Meena, Verification Officer at PSK, Lower Parel, and Bhavesh Shah, a passport agent. According to the FIR, during 2023–2024, Meena conspired with Shah and other private individuals to obtain undue advantages for facilitating passport-related services. advertisement'In furtherance of the conspiracy with agent Bhavesh Shah (private person) and other unknown persons, accused public servant Akshay Kumar Meena got issued fake passports of unknown applicants based on forged documents,' the CBI said. The investigation revealed that seven unidentified individuals submitted forged documents, including Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, bank statements, and birth certificates, as proof of identity and address at the Passport Office. All the documents were confirmed to be retrieved from the phones of Meena and Shah showed discussions about bribe payments related to these fraudulent passport applications. No Passport Services at the Indian Embassy in Kuwait This Sunday
KUWAIT CITY, May 10: The Embassy of India in Kuwait has announced that the Passport Seva Portal will be temporarily unavailable on Sunday, May 11, 2025, from 06:30 AM to 06:30 PM (Kuwait time) due to scheduled maintenance. As a result, passport and passport-related services, including Tatkaal passport issuance and Police Clearance Certificates (PCCs), will not be available during this period. This disruption will affect services at the Embassy and the Indian Consular Application Centres (ICACs) in Kuwait City, Fahaheel, Jleeb Al Shuyoukh, and Jahra. However, visa and other consular services will continue to be rendered at the ICACs without interruption. The Embassy has advised Indian nationals to plan their visits accordingly to avoid inconvenience.
