Celtics' Jayson Tatum Still Receiving Major Criticism Despite Achilles Injury

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Boston Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum is one of the best players in the NBA today. Yet for some reason, he gets an overwhelming amount of criticism from both fans and media members. More NBA news: Lakers' Luka Doncic to Join LeBron James, Steve Nash on Podcast Tatum has helped the Celtics get to two NBA Finals, winning one of them, and he has come up big for his team countless times in the playoffs. Star players also will receive criticism, but with Tatum, it feels a little different at times. One of his bigger critics is FS1 analyst Colin Cowherd, who has gone after him multiple times in the past. Cowherd recently weighed in on Tatum again, questioning the Celtics star in comparison to Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Cowherd said that everything people say Tatum does, Gilgeous-Alexander does better and with more consistency. "The many things I like about SGA [Shai Gilgeous-Alexander] is that he is delivering and fulfilling everything I've been told Jayson Tatum does," said Cowherd. "Last year, the Celtics go on their championship run, Jaylen Brown is the MVP of the Eastern Conference Finals and the Finals MVP, and Jaylen Brown is often the aggressor and the initiator. SGA wants the ball and is always the aggressor and he has multiple great players around him, but he is clearly the alpha, and that's all I ever ask with Tatum and got push back. I'm holding Jayson Tatum to the standard you guys all lectured me on with years on LeBron [James]." The idea that Tatum is being held to the same standard as LeBron James, who is widely seen as one of the Greatest of All Time, shows exactly how good he is. NBA rumors: Very positive health updates emerge on Jayson Tatum and Victor Wembanyama's surgery recoveries

A top NBA insider offered up some major updates on both Jayson Tatum and Victor Wembanyama that should excite Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs fans. Tatum and Wembanyama are two of the best players in the NBA. And the two All-Stars are positioned to be among the faces of the league in the years ahead. However, there has been recent concern about their health. And if they can continue to play at the elite standard they have set. Advertisement Also Read: NBA games today – Get a look at tonight's NBA playoff schedule In February, Wembanyama was diagnosed with a blood clot in his shoulder and immediately underwent surgery to repair the issue. And avoid what could potentially be a career-ending situation. The hope has been that he can return and be ready for training camp. According to ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, that now looks like a lock. 'The Spurs fully expect Wemby to be ready to go for the start of training camp,' he revealed on 'The Pat McAfee Show' on Tuesday. Jayson Tatum quickly having surgery a major plus for his recovery? Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum saw his season come to a shocking end in Game 4 of their playoff series against the New York Knicks. The six-time All-Star ruptured his Achilles late in their loss. The injury is one of the most serious in professional sports, and is expected to sideline him for most, if not all, of next season. Advertisement Charania did not claim the original estimates for his return have changed. But there is a new reason for hope. Also on the 'Pat McAfee Show,' the insider revealed that the New York doctor who performed his surgery is the same one who repaired Kevin Durant's Achilles after he also ruptured it in 2019. The future Hall-of-Famer was able to make a full recovery and return to being an elite player. Furthermore, Durant underwent surgery 36 hours after surgery. Tatum scheduled his 12 hours after he went down inside Madison Square Garden. Charania claimed that the surgeon believes that the shorter time could be immensely beneficial in his recovery. It may not mean he can return to the court sooner. But it may be early evidence that the 27-year-old superstar can do just like Durant and get backing to being a 99th percentile talent following such a serious injury. Would the Boston Celtics consider trading Jaylen Brown?

In an offseason that is expected to have plenty of chaos around the NBA, the Boston Celtics will be faced with several decisions to make, and one hypothetical includes trading away superstar Jaylen Brown. Facing the likelihood that they will be without Jayson Tatum for most of, if not all, of the 2025-26 season, the Celtics could look to trade one of their most valuable assets to rebuild the roster as they await the return of Tatum. Trading Jaylen Brown feels as if it would be the most extreme decision the Celtics' front office could make this offseason, and would signal a change in direction for the franchise. While it all feels unlikely to happen, the question is not only would the Celtics consider it, but what a possible return would look like for the team. Watch the video above to see the 'WEEI Afternoons' radio crew discuss the idea of the Celtics potentially trading Jaylen Brown. The easiest argument against it would be that with Tatum out for a long time, it provides an opportunity for Brown to takeover as the face of the franchise, and in turn the front office will have to put together a supporting cast around him to keep them as a contender in the Eastern conference. "Got to learn to walk again": NBA legend shares stark reality on Jayson Tatum recovery Jayson Tatum is facing a long road back to the NBA. The All-NBA forward suffered an Achilles tendon injury during the Boston Celtics' second round loss to the New York Knicks. Tatum has already undergone surgery to repair the tear, but could be facing 12 months on the sidelines as he recovers and rehabilitates his injury. Due to Tatum's injury, the Celtics are expected to make some changes to the current roster. After all, there's no point having such a high payroll if the team isn't expected to compete for the next year or two. When speaking to Kyle Odegard of Esports Insider, former NBA star Dominique Wilkins noted that Tatum should embrace water therapy as part of his rehab program. Wilkins has previously suffered the same injury and immediately found himself back in the MVP conversation once he was cleared to play. 'If he does a lot of water therapy and a lot of individual workouts to get his range of motion back – he's got to learn how to walk again – the mobility and the stretching will help him get back quicker, as well as getting the calf stronger," Wilkins said. "Because when you tear that Achilles tendon, you lose some muscle mass in that leg. You've got to try to stay ahead of the game.' Tatum is young enough to make a full recovery. Players like Wilkins and Kevin Durant have provided the blueprint on how to approach recovery from an Achilles tear. If Tatum can remain focused, stay professional and embrace the journey back to the court, then there's no reason why he can't re-establish himself as a top-tier player in the NBA. Unfortunately for Boston, Tatum's journey is going to take a while. As such, some difficult stretches are ahead in terms of on-court production.
