Where Auburn baseball stands in D1Baseball's latest bracketology
Where Auburn baseball stands in D1Baseball's latest bracketology Are Auburn's national seed chances disappearing after losing to Texas A&M? Auburn baseball dipped from the SEC Baseball Tournament early by falling to Texas A&M on Thursday, 3-2, at the Hoover Met. The Tigers were projected to secure the No. 6 seed in D1Baseball's Field of 64 projections before the Texas A&M game. How much did the loss affect their chances of locking in a national seed? According to D1Baseball's latest bracketology update, Auburn is safe. However, their chances to secure a top-eight seed are wearing thin. D1Baseball dropped Auburn from No. 6 to No. 7 in its Friday update, with Duke, Troy, and Long Island projected to travel to the Plains next weekend for the Auburn regional at Plainsman Park. In the latest projection, the Auburn regional is paired with the Conway regional, which Coastal Carolina would host. Auburn is one seed above Oregon in Friday's update, with Oregon State, Coastal Carolina, and Florida State on the outside. Auburn fell one spot in the RPI to No. 3 following the loss to Texas A&M. However, neither of the teams behind Auburn in the Field of 64 are above them. Auburn holds the nation's toughest schedule, with neither of Auburn's closest competitors possessing a strength of schedule higher than No. 26 (Oregon). The Tigers are also 15-12 against quad-1 competition while Florida State is 12-9, Oregon State is 10-9, Oregon is 9-1, and Coastal Carolina is 4-5. With two days remaining until regional hosts are identified, Auburn should feel confident in its chances to host a regional for the third time in four years and be in a position to host a super regional for the first time ever. However, many conferences have yet to determine a championship, and the postseason picture could shake up significantly before the dust finally settles.
