Paramount film chief Brian Robbins exits ahead of Skydance takeover
Paramount Global Co-Chief Executive Brian Robbins stepped down Wednesday, a day before David Ellison's Skydance Media absorbs the entertainment company. The move was expected. Skydance unveiled it senior management team earlier this week, signaling its plans to shake up the leadership of Robbins' turf — the famed Paramount Pictures on Melrose Avenue. Robbins has led the movie studio since 2021. Longtime Ellison lieutenant Dana Goldberg and former Sony executive Josh Greenstein will jointly manage the studio as co-chairs. Don Granger, another Skydance executive, becomes motion pictures president, reporting to Goldberg and Greenstein. Skydance's $8.4-billion takeover of Paramount is scheduled to be finalized on Thursday. Robbins is a longtime producer and former child actor who joined Paramount, then known as Viacom, in 2017. He led Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon, working to invigorate beloved franchises, before being elevated in April 2024. Robbins then became part of the triumvirate of CEOs then tasked with running the company after former Chief Executive Bob Bakish got bounced. For 15 months, Robbins, CBS chief George Cheeks and cable programming head Chris McCarthy steered the company during a particularly tumultuous time with business pressures, the loss of cable TV subscribers, and significant staff reductions. Controlling shareholder Shari Redstone also was looking to sell the company — adding more uncertainty for the rattled ranks. Cheeks is the only senior Paramount executive who will stay on with the new ownership. He becomes chairman of TV media, which includes the CBS properties and cable TV channels, including MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and BET. McCarthy, who oversaw lucrative cable franchises, including 'Yellowstone' and 'South Park, also stepped down as the Redstone era winds to a close. 'When I first walked onto the Paramount Pictures lot as a young filmmaker many years ago, I never imagined I'd one day be entrusted with leading this storied studio,' Robbins said Wednesday in a note to his staff. 'It has been one of the greatest privileges of my life to work alongside such an extraordinary group of people.' In his note, Robbins touted efforts to reinvigorate durable franchises, including 'Sonic the Hedgehog,' 'Scream,' 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' and 'Mission: Impossible.' His team, along with Skydance, was behind the highest-grossing film in Paramount's century-plus history, 'Top Gun: Maverick.'

The latest film from the franchise, titled ' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles : Mutant Mayhem 2 ' has been indefinitely delayed. 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2' release delayed The movie 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2' has been delayed indefinitely to be released on September 17, 2027, as the production house makes major changes to their project release calendar, as shared by reports from The Hollywood Reporter. The project was earlier set to be released on the date October 9, 2026; however, the release has been delayed by almost a year. This is the sequel to the 2023 release, which featured a star voice cast of Ayo Edebiri, Maya Rudolph, John Cena, Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Jackie Chan, Ice Cube, and Paul Rudd. Not the only project being delayed The new 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' is not the only film project that is being rescheduled this year. From the same production house, the film ' The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender ', which was originally planned to be released on January 30, 2026, has now been shifted forward. While there has been no official statement by the production house as to why and how these delays are happening in the release of these films, one main point of cause that comes up is the issue with making the animations. Release of TMNT delayed by a year
The release of 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2' has been postponed by a year. The upcoming sequel from Paramount Pictures was originally set for release on October 9, 2026 but has now been pushed back to September 17, 2027. The change in schedule has been caused by delays in animation physical production. Filmmaker Jeff Rowe is directing the follow up to the 2023 film, which included the voice talents of Ayo Edebiri, Maya Rudolph, John Cena, Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Jackie Chan, Ice Cube and Paul Rudd. Announcing the sequel, Paramount CEO Brian Robbins said: 'In the nearly 40 years since 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' launched into the zeitgeist, it has entertained generations of fans and only continues to grow. We are excited to grow 'TMNT's legacy in partnership with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg at Point Grey, and Jeff Rowe, who are innovating the franchise with their singular brand of humour and elevated storytelling for audiences everywhere, across virtually every platform.' Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, said. 'Reinvigorating this franchise has been years in the making, and we are thrilled to continue expanding the beloved 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' universe and bringing new adventures to families and fans.' Rogen produced the first movie and voiced warthog mutant Bebop, with Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu and Brady Noon as turtles Donatello, Michaelangelo, Leonardo and Raphael respectively. Chan voiced the Turtles' mentor Splinter, with Byrne as Leatherhead and Cena as Bebop's pal Rocksteady. In addition, Hannibal Buress played Genghis Frog, Ice Cube as Superfly, Natasia Demetriou as Wingnut, Ayo Edebiri as April O'Neil, Giancarlo Esposito as Baxter Stockman, Post Malone as Ray Fillet, Rudd as Mondo Gecko, and Rudolph as Cynthia Utrom.
