"It was so unreal..." Thailand's Opal Suchata says she still can't believe as she wins Miss World 2025
Hyderabad: Thailand's Opal Suchata, who was crowned Miss World 2025 in a grand ceremony held in Hyderabad, Telangana, shared her feelings after winning the title. The 72nd edition of the global beauty pageant was a star-studded event and marked another proud moment for Thailand, as this was the country's first-ever Miss World crown. Speaking to ANI after her win, Opal expressed a mix of joy and disbelief, calling the moment "surreal." She was overwhelmed with emotion, especially because her country had waited over seven decades for this achievement. "I was very excited, especially when they were announcing all the girls and their placements, and when I was announced the winner, I still couldn't believe it. I was very confused because it was so unreal, because my people and I've been waiting for the first crown of Miss World for more than 72 years. It is such an honour to be able to bring back home the first crown. The moment I was crowned, all I thought about was the faces of my family, my people, my team and everyone. I cannot wait to really bring this crown back to Thailand...," Suchata told ANI. She also highlighted her ongoing commitment to her 'Beauty with a Purpose' cause. "I would love to continue on my purpose, which is breast cancer. I am glad that being here in Miss World, a lot of people know more about my Beauty with a Purpose project and have more awareness of the cause that I'm setting up for. I believe that with the Miss World title, in the future, I could definitely make more impact and also help other projects that are in need," she added. Reflecting on her win, she added, "Now, I would like to define Miss World as my success because I just received it, and it's the highest and most honourable success I've ever had in my life. But if I could define another way of success. I would say that to live your life and to create a life that's better for people around you as well. That's also the success of being alive." While Thailand rejoices in Opal's crowning, India's hopes were dashed as Nandini Gupta, the country's representative, failed to make it into the Top 8 finalists. The announcement came through Miss World's official Instagram page. Nandini had made it to the Top 40 after a standout performance in the earlier rounds, where she was among the 18 contestants who 'fast-tracked' to this prestigious category.

Wearing a gown that symbolised both healing and strength, Opal walked across the stage in a delicate white fabric adorned with opal-like florals. She described the gown as a tribute to the powerful journey of "Opal For HER," representing the gem's inherent qualities of beauty, resilience, and transformation. "The shimmering white fabric and delicate opal-like florals reflect women who choose hope over fear," Opal shared on her Instagram handle, adding, "The soft flare mirrors the ripple effect of compassion--how one heart can awaken many. Swarovski crystals sparkle like the inner light that guides us through darkness." This symbolic dress was not just an outfit--it was a celebration of every woman who dares to dream, even in the face of adversity. "Just like the opal, I shine in my own light," Opal shared on Instagram. In a glittering ceremony held at the Hyderabad International Convention and Exhibition Center (HITEX) in Telangana, India, on Saturday evening, Suchata received the coveted 'blue crown' from Krystyna Pyszkova, last year's winner from the Czech Republic.

Miss World 2025 contestants visit Buddhist heritage site in India
Contestants of the 72nd Miss World Festival from the Asian and Oceanic regions marked the Buddha Purnima festival by visiting Buddhavanam, a renowned Buddhist heritage site at Nagarjunasagar in the south Indian state of Telangana. The heritage tour aims to highlight Telangana's rich history and diverse cultural heritage to offer the contestants the region's profound spiritual and historical legacy. The day's itinerary included a stopover at a guest house near Chintapalli, followed by a photo session at Vijay Vihar, set against the Nagarjunasagar reservoir. The contestants then proceeded to Buddhavanam, the Buddhist theme park developed on the northern bank of the Krishna river, spanning 279 acres. This project, taken up by the Telangana Government as part of an integrated Buddhist Circuit, is designed to showcase the life and teachings of Gautama Buddha. The site features intricately carved structures, including the Mahastupa, known for its breathtaking drum and dome carvings, and a virtual hanging sky with lotus petals, offering a mesmerising experience. Dr Shivanagi Reddy, a representative of the state's Archaeology and Tourism Department, emphasised the historical and architectural significance of the site, stating, "Buddhavanam is a testament to India's ancient Buddhist heritage and its role in spreading the message of peace and compassion across the world," the official said. "It's a privilege to share this rich history with the world through the Miss World pageant." The contestants explored the Buddhacharitha Vanam, depicting the life of Buddha, Jataka Park, which highlights stories from Buddha's previous lives, Dhyana Vanam for meditation, and the Stupa Vanam, home to the imposing Maha Stupa, before visiting the Buddhist Heritage Museum, which houses ancient relics and sculptural panels depicting key events from Buddha's life. The visit concluded with a theatrical performance by 18 artists, capturing key episodes from the life of the Buddha. Julia Morley CBE, chairman and CEO of the Miss World Organisation, expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome.

Krystyna Pyszkova of the Czech Republic, the reigning Miss World, will crown her successor at the culmination of the grand event. India's representative at Miss World 2025, Femina Miss India World 2023, Nandini Gupta, has already begun her rigorous preparations for the global stage. The young beauty queen from Kota, Rajasthan, is focused on delivering her best performance at the competition. In a recent conversation with ANI, Nandini shared insights into her intense training schedule, emphasising the importance of representing India on such a prestigious platform. "I am training rigorously to shine on the world stage. Every day, I am learning a lot about Telangana, Hyderabad, and what the city has to offer," she said. Nandini also expressed her excitement about the event's significance for the state of Telangana, particularly in terms of its potential to boost the local economy, promote tourism, and showcase the region's rich culture. "Miss World is happening in India for the second consecutive time, and it is a moment of pride," she added. Earlier this year, Miss World 2023, Krystyna Pyszkova, along with Julia Morley, Chairperson and CEO of the Miss World Organisation, visited Hyderabad to review the event's arrangements. Krystyna shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming competition in India, highlighting the country's vibrant culture and its growing significance in the Miss World journey. Speaking to ANI, Pyszkova said, "I love the Indian sparkle that the last edition had, and it will be just amazing this time as well. India has a lot to offer, and I'm looking forward to experiencing it all."
