Muar cops: Influencer and brother probed for faking disappearance, car dumped in river before fleeing

MUAR, July 19 — Police are reportedly investigating an influencer and his brother for allegedly providing false information and staging a disappearance for personal gain. Muar police chief Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said a 30-year-old man lodged a report on July 15, claiming his 38-year-old brother went missing after travelling to Muar to repair his vehicle. 'Investigations revealed that the victim is believed to have submerged his wife's car in Sungai Tui, Lenga, before fleeing to a neighbouring country,' he was quoted saying by The Star. 'His younger brother later admitted to conspiring with him and pretending to carry out a search effort to mislead the police,' he added. The police launched a missing persons investigation and a search and rescue operation following the report. Authorities later found discrepancies in the statements provided and concluded that the disappearance was staged. Statements from both men have been recorded, and police are awaiting an order from the Deputy Public Prosecutor to proceed with further investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for giving false information to a public servant and Section 109 for abetment. If convicted, the suspects could face up to six months in jail, a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both. Raiz Mukhliz also reminded the public that false police reports waste resources and can hinder real emergencies. It was previously reported that influencer Tengku Nizaruddin Tengku Zainudin, also known as Ija, had gone missing. More than 70 policemen were involved in the four-day search and rescue operation via land, sea, and air.

Missing influencer: Rescuers fail to find new leads, search in Muar's Sungai Tui called off after four days

MUAR, July 18 — The search and rescue (SAR) operation for motoring influencer Tengku Nizaruddin Tengku Zainudin, who was reported missing on Monday after the vehicle he was driving plunged into Sungai Tui, Lenga, here, was called off today after rescuers failed to find any new leads. Muar district police chief ACP Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the Incident Command Post (PKTK) at the scene had also been closed as the search for the 38-year-old victim entered its fourth day. He said the operation, launched after a partially submerged car was found in the river located in an oil palm plantation, involved 77 personnel from various agencies. 'The search was carried out using land, water, and air methods covering a radius of several kilometres from the scene by the Muar district police headquarters (IPD), the Marine Police Force, the K9 Unit, and the General Operations Force (PGA) personnel. 'Also involved were the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), its water rescue team (PPDA) and Drone Unit,' he said in a statement today. According to Raiz Mukhliz, the PKTK was closed and the SAR operation called off following a decision to expand the search to other areas after a thorough search of the incident site had been completed. He said the move would also allow for better coordination among the agencies involved should other factors contributing to the victim's disappearance come to light. However, Raiz Mukhliz said search efforts would still be carried out periodically by personnel from the Lenga police station with assistance from Muar IPD. Earlier, the media reported that the victim, a businessman and owner of a vehicle accessories shop, went missing after the Perodua Axia he was driving plunged into the river. — Bernama
