Barcelona star tipped for ‘a summer full of drama'
A leading member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona is expected to endure a drama-filled summer over the weeks and months ahead. That's according to Blaugrana insider Gerard Romero, who points towards Marc-André ter Stegen as the player in question. Advertisement Goalkeeper Ter Stegen's future has of course taken its place centre stage in the headlines in Catalunya's capital over the course of the last week. This comes amid the understanding that Espanyol standout Joan García's arrival at Barcelona could push the club's long-time no.1 out the exit door. Groups of Blaugrana supporters have even gone as far as to kickstart an online campaign, to convince the Camp Nou brass to sanction Ter Stegen's sale. With the German himself having made clear over the weekend that he has no intention of going anywhere this summer, trouble could therefore be brewing behind the scenes in Barcelona. Advertisement And one individual increasingly fearful of a 'dramatic' few months ahead for Ter Stegen comes in the form of the aforementioned Gerard Romero. Speaking on his official Twitch channel late on Sunday evening, Romero, considered something of an inside source at Barca, explained: 'I keep thinking we're headed for a summer full of drama with Ter Stegen. It would hurt, because he's been a leader for years… but maybe it's time to realise that, in the end, some things just have to happen.' Conor Laird – GSFN

Hansi Flick's coaching staff believe Marc-Andre Ter Stegen should leave Barcelona
Marc-Andre Ter Stegen has been first-choice goalkeeper at Barcelona for a decade, but that is expected to change from next season onwards. The Germany international has generated doubts in recent years, and having missed the vast majority of the 2024-25 campaign due to injury, it now appears that he will be replaced. Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia is being pursued by Barcelona, who are hopeful of completing a deal in the coming weeks. And the expectation is that he will replace Ter Stegen in between the goalposts, with Wojciech Szczesny to act as backup upon signing a new deal. Advertisement Despite this, Ter Stegen has no plans to leave Barcelona, and his plan is to continue as the club's starting goalkeeper for another season. But things could change now that an insight in Hansi Flick's thinking has been revealed. Hansi Flick sees Joan Garcia as Barcelona starting goalkeeper Image via Getty Images According to MD, Flick's coaching staff see Garcia as the starting goalkeeper if he joins Espanyol this summer. Barcelona's commitment to the 24-year-old is strong, with the technical staff sharing the same view as the board and the sporting management in that he will be first-choice 'keeper from next season onwards. Ter Stegen would need to leave to ensure Germany spot Because of this, it is seen as very difficult for Ter Stegen to play if he stays at Barcelona next season. And the view of the first team coaching staff is that the 33-year-old should leave if he is to play regular football ahead of next summer's World Cup, foe which he is projected to be Germany's starter – but that would only be the case if he is playing. It certainly feels more and more likely that Ter Stegen's time at Barcelona will be coming to an end this summer. And it is the right time, considering that he has dropped off. The club will be desperate for him to go, so that they can save his lucrative salary – and in the process, ease their financial woes.

FC Barcelona Coach Flick Makes Decision On Ter Stegen Exit
FC Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has made his mind up on Marc-Andre ter Stegen's future if Joan Garcia ... More joins the club from Espanyol this summer according to Mundo Deportivo, which cited anonymous sources. FC Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has made his mind up on Marc-Andre ter Stegen's future if Joan Garcia joins the club from Espanyol this summer according to Mundo Deportivo, which cited anonymous sources. Just this week alone, we have witnessed the same newspaper report that breakthrough 2024/2025 star Garcia has agreed terms with the Catalans ahead of RAC1 explaining that Barca President Joan Laporta allegedly, effectively told the board that Ter Stegen will be sold should their top transfer target end up being landed. Though Laporta and Sporting Director Deco get the last say on who arrives or leaves, the opinion of Spanish treble winner Flick will also be important, of course. There is probably some rapport between compatriots Flick and Ter Stegen because of their time together when the former commanded the German national team, yet sources that spoke to Mundo Deportivo anonymously and are close to the tactician have explained that should Garcia come, Ter Stegen 'will have to look for a way out if the wants to play next season'. As Barca's commitment to Garcia is 'firm and strong', the technical staff is in 'total harmony' with the board and the sports management department on the potential coup and Garcia being the number one shot stopper in Blaugrana for the 2025/2026 should it come to fruition. With a contract until June 30, 2028, Ter Stegen is under no obligation to move on but might want to considering the next World Cup is on the horizon at the end of next term. He'll want to play in a team where he's a starter and will pick up plenty of minutes, in an attempt to convince Julian Nagelsmann that he should man the sticks for Germany in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Unfortunately, that might mean having to leave Barca, where he's been a regular when not injured since 2014. Whether Garcia comes or not, there is a lot of competition to be FC Barcelona's primary goalkeeper among Wojciech Szczesny, Ter Stegen and Inaki Pena, while not even mentioning young American promise Diego Kochen.

FC Barcelona Shockingly Puts Captain Up For Sale
FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta has effectively put its captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen up for sale according to RAC1, which cited anonymous sources. The German missed most of 2024/2025 thanks to a serious ACL rupture suffered away at Villarreal in September, which resulted in the Catalans bringing Wojciech Szczesny out of retirement as back up. Inaki Pena soon became Hansi Flick's number one choice, but disciplinary and punctuality problems at the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia at the turn of 2025 resulted in 'Tek' taking over the reins and playing a key part in Barca's eventual domestic treble win. Ter Stegen returned as that campaign drew to a close, but the future of the goalkeeping department isn't clear. Barca looks to be closing in on Espanyol's Joan Garcia who became a breakout star last term in La Liga, while Szczesny looks set to extend his one year contract. With Pena also still on the books, that's at least four men for one position without mentioning American prospect Diego Kochen. While there have been rumors that Garcia would be bought and then loaned out to another Spanish club such as Valencia, which doesn't make much sense, RAC1 reports that President Laporta told the board on Thursday night that they trust in the Espanyol 'keeper's 'yes' and 'want to get rid of the German goalkeeper' i.e. Ter Stegen. If true, this is a major plot twist at Can Barca, with Ter Stegen an 'untouchable' for a decade since winning the Champions League against Juventus in the capital of his homeland Berlin back in 2015. Basically, it is Laporta allegedly saying in public for the first time that if Garcia comes, Ter Stegen must go. This will be music to the ears of a certain corner of Barcelona fans that have been behind a 'TerStegenOut' campaign on X, formerly known as Twitter, which has made a point of using such a hashtag as often as possible. With a contract until 2028, however, Ter Stegen is under no obligation to move on and could anger some even more by refusing to leave. By offloading Ter Stegen, FC Barcelona would free up money to go after Marcus Rashford and also have the much-needed space it needs to stay on the right side of Financial Fair Play by getting his salary off the payroll.

Newcastle United set to beat Arsenal to £21m transfer 'in the coming days'
Newcastle United are set to beat Arsenal and Barcelona in the race to sign Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, according to reports in Spain. Arsenal attempted to sign Garcia in the closing stages of the transfer window last summer but failed to reach an agreement with Espanyol. The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga this season, despite Espanyol narrowly avoiding relegation from the top flight, and Arsenal have retained their interest ahead of the summer window. Both Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been considering a move for Garcia in the upcoming window, while reports have claimed that Barca have reached an agreement in principle for the Spanish goalkeeper, who has a €25 million (£21m) release clause. However, Spanish radio station Cadena COPE reports that Garcia will not join Barcelona and is now 'very likely sign for Newcastle in the coming days'. Cadena COPE's Quique Iglesias said on El Partidazo: 'He's not going to play at Barca. Under no circumstances is he going to play at Barca. 'He's going to sign for a Premier League team, in principle. They say Newcastle, but that will be resolved soon. 'But he's not going to play at Barca. He's not going to Barca because he believes he has to make a decision that's good for everyone and for everyone he cares about; Espanyol matters to him. 'And he's not going to Barca because he believes it's not the time to go to Barcelona. It's the time to play somewhere far from here, far from home. 'And because… it's not a natural or easy exit. It's not a cheap exit for Barca. It's not an exit where he's guaranteed to play. Because for now Ter Stegen has a contract. And no matter how much Barca self-servingly leaks that Ter Stegen's season has ended, it's not easy for Ter Stegen to leave. And things will be resolved soon. More Trending 'In other words, Joan Garcia isn't going to leave Spain on August 15, not even on July 15… he is going to leave now.' Garcia played for Catalonia's national side in their 2-0 victory against Costa Rica on Wednesday and speaking before the game, the Espanyol goalkeeper was asked about his future. 'I'm very calm. Many things are coming up and I want to rest now,' Garcia said. 'These are things that don't depend solely on me. I'm an Espanyol player, if something comes along that seems good to them and to me too, it will be decided. I'm focused on my feelings and those of the people I care about.'
