'With heavy hearts': Jacksonville's last Burrito Gallery abruptly closes
After more than nine years, Burrito Gallery at Brooklyn Station closed abruptly — ending the fast-casual "Jax Mex" restaurant concept's 20-year presence in Jacksonville. Signs taped to the doors on June 23 announced the closure of the restaurant at 90 Riverside Ave., #601, in Brooklyn Station near downtown, and thanked customers for their patronage. "Thank you for years of patronage. With heavy hearts Burrito Gallery is now closed. We have truly enjoyed serving our community, providing memories, great food and margaritas! We thank you. BG Family," the signs read. The owners couldn't be reached immediately for comment. Sorry, we're closed: Restaurants we've lost in Jacksonville in 2025 The restaurant's food service license status was listed as "delinquent, active" with an expiration date of June 1, Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) online records showed. Burrito Gallery was known for its Southwestern-style cuisine, which it described as "Jax Mex." The Brooklyn Station restaurant, which included a rooftop dining area, was the last of what was once four locations of the local chain that debuted in 2005 in Jacksonville's downtown. The Brooklyn neighborhood restaurant opened in January 2016. Since November 2023, three other Burrito Gallery locations closed: the original restaurant at 21 E. Adams St., in February 2024, after 18 years; 300 Beach Blvd., No. 1 in Jacksonville Beach, in November 2023, after seven years; and most recently, 5016 Gate Parkway, in Gateway Village at Town Center on the Southside, in March, after about five years. Another Mandarin restaurant abruptly shuts its doors
A Mexican bar and grill in Mandarin has become the latest neighborhood restaurant to abruptly shut its doors. Casa Amigos Mexican Bar & Grille is gone from 11112 San Jose Blvd., Suite 23, where it had occupied a storefront between Mandola's Italian Kitchen and Trader Joe's in the Claire Lane shopping center. The restaurant sign was gone from the building, its telephone disconnected, and its website, Facebook and Instagram pages had been taken down by Saturday. On Sunday, cleaning supplies could be seen through the front windows on the floor of what previously had been the main dining area. Casa Amigos' owners couldn't be reached immediately for comment. The closure comes more than three years after Casa Amigos was licensed to operate in the 3,718-square-foot storefront previously occupied by another Mexican restaurant — La Nopalera Mexican Restaurant. La Nopalera had been licensed for that space since 2014. It underwent an ownership change in 2021, according to online records at the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulations, and state Division of Corporations. 'Deeply grateful for the memories': Funky Jacksonville Beach sandwich shop plans to close Permanent time out: Popular sports bar closes at The Avenues, leaving just 1 full-service restaurant at mall The departure of Casa Amigos comes roughly a week after the closure of nearby Pollo Tropical at 10989 San Jose Blvd. in the Mandarin Corners shopping center. Also closing simultaneously were Pollo Tropical's other Jacksonville locations: 730 Skymarks Drive in River City Marketplace, 4863 Gate Parkway at the Markets at Town Center. The three Pollo Tropical restaurants were the last three in Jacksonville. A company representative told the Times-Union the restaurant Miami-based chain had decided to "focus on higher growth markets in Florida."
