Auburn Regional: Four Tigers named to All-Regional team
Auburn Regional: Four Tigers named to All-Regional team Terrell hit .727 during the Auburn Regional with eight RBI. Auburn baseball swept the competition at the Auburn Regional over the weekend, with the dagger being an 11-1 thrashing of the NC State Wolfpack on Sunday night. Offense was a vital part of Auburn's success over the weekend as the Tigers outscored Central Connecticut, Stetson, and NC State, 28-11 over the three-day event. Auburn head coach Butch Thompson received steady production from his usual sluggers, but it was a true freshman that played the biggest role in Auburn's regional success. Bub Terrell was named the MVP of the Auburn Regional on Sunday night at the conclusion of the Tigers' win over NC State after posting monumental numbers at the plate. In three games, Terrell hit .727 (8-for-11) with six RBI and three doubles. In Auburn's regional-clinching victory over NC State, Terrell went 4-for-5 with two RBI and a double, which followed his performance from the previous two games where he recorded two hits and three RBI in each game. Joining Terrell on the All-Regional team are Cooper McMurray, Ike Irish, and Carson Myers. McMurray finished with four hits on the weekend, but his Saturday performance at the plate is what earned him a place at the table. The senior from Tulsa, Oklahoma was responsible for three of Auburn's eight doubles in the Tigers' 8-5 win over Stetson, with his 3rd-inning double pushing Auburn ahead, 4-0. Irish remained consistent at the plate by hitting .500 (7-for-14) with two home runs and five RBI. His first home run of the weekend came at a crucial time with Auburn up, 7-5, in the 9th inning. Stetson threatened Auburn's lead by scoring two runs in the 7th inning, and stranding a runner in scoring position in the 8th. However, Irish's solo blast to center field killed the Hatters' momentum and sealed Auburn's victory. The final Auburn representative is pitcher Carson Myers, who saved the Tigers from a potential upset in Friday's game with Central Connecticut. The Blue Devils chased Auburn starter Cam Tilly after one full inning after scoring three runs on five hits, and were quickly extingushed by Myers, who struck out nine batters while allowing one run over the next six innings, which created space for Auburn's offense to create seperation from the upset-minded Blue Devils. Here is a look at the All-Regional team. C-Alex Sosa, NC State 1B-Cooper McMurray, Auburn 2B-Aidan Redahan, Central Connecticut 3B-Isaiah Barkett, Stetson SS-Lorenzo Meola, Stetson OF-Ike Irish, Auburn OF-Josh Hogue, NC State OF-Bub Terrell, Auburn DH-Brandon Novy, NC State P-Ryan Marohn, NC State P-Carson Myers, Auburn MVP-Bub Terrell, Auburn Contact/Follow us @TheAuburnWire on X (Twitter), and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Auburn news, notes, and opinions. Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr. has played marvelous for Drew Terrell
Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr. has played marvelous for Drew Terrell Marvin Harrison Jr. will continue his success as long as he has Cardinals pass game coordinator Drew Terrell Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. had eight touchdown receptions in 2024, ranking No. 13 in the NFL and tying a franchise rookie record. In just his rookie season, Harrison Jr. has already proven himself to have a promising upside. However, there is a mastermind helping Harrison Jr. to maximize his potential, someone most Cardinals fans know little about. Harrison Jr.'s position coach Drew Terrell, who is also the pass game coordinator, has optimized the Cardinals passing game by using intermediate routes to attack both zone and man coverages. Before the late-season Cardinals losing streak, Terrell had quarterback Kyler Murray ranked within the top 10 in the NFL in completion percentages. While Terrell won't get all the credit, he also deserves some praise for the way tight end Trey McBride played throughout the 2024 NFL season. Nevertheless, with a 14.8-yard per-catch average on 62 catches, Harrison Jr. and has worked well with Terrell about being intentional and scheming ways to attack the third level of the defense. Harrison Jr.'s utilization and effectiveness both decline when the Cardinals offense becomes one-dimensional, so it's ultimately up to offensive coordinator Drew Petzing to sequence in enough running plays so the Cardinals don't get stuck in third-and-long situations. When everything is on schedule, however, and Terrell gets to work his mastermind, Harrison Jr. is sure to get his touches and impose his impact on the game. With eight touchdowns on 62 receptions last season, Harrison has been managed superbly by Terrell. Hopefully, Cardinals fans will see more marvelous plays made by Harrison Jr. in his second NFL season. Terrell's 3 RBIs help Auburn beat Stetson 8-5, advance to regional's championship round
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Bub Terrell had two doubles and three RBIs, Eric Snow also had two doubles and drove in two runs and No. 4 national seed Auburn beat Stetson 7-5 at the Auburn Regional on Saturday night. Auburn (39-18) can clinch a berth in the super regionals with a victory Sunday over the winner of an elimination game between second-seeded N.C. State and the No. 3 seed Hatters (41-20). The Wolfpack or Hatters would have to beat the host Tigers twice to win the regional. Cooper McMurray led off the second inning with a double off Stetson starter James Hays (4-1) and, after Lucas Steele lined out, Snow and Terrell hit back-to-back RBI doubles. Ike Irish and McMurray added consecutive run-scoring doubles in the third to make it 4-0. Evan Griffis scored when Isaiah Barkett grounded out to make it a three-run game going into the fourth, when Jordan Taylor and Landon Russel each had an RBI single to trim Stetson's deficit to 4-3. McMurray led off the fifth with a double and scored when Snow doubled to left center and Terrell hit a two-RBI double in the seventh to give Auburn a 7-3 lead. Danny Perez drew a two-out walk and scored on a double by Barkett before a single by Jayden Hilton made it 7-5 heading to the eighth. Irish hit a lead-off home run in the ninth to cap the scoring. Samuel Dutton (7-3) gave up five runs over 6 2/3 innings and Ryan Hetzler allowed five hits over 2 1/3 scoreless innings for his eighth save of the season. ___ AP college sports:
